I'm tired of perverts being let out of prisions because of "good behavior" or being put into "rehabiltaion centers" and then being let out on the streets to hurt more people. I was reading an article in my newspaper about a man who raped and molested 11 children getting out of prision in Rhode Island on the grounds that he was "rehabilitated" and had "good behavior" in prision. This REALLY makes me angry, like you have NO idea!

I don't live in Rhode Island but if I did I can gurantee you that this guy would be in the obiturarys. The ONLY two forms of punishment these creeps should get is either the death penalty or life in prison with NO exceptions. Who's idea is it to let these people out anyway? I would like to have a personal and private talk with them....

I doubt if there was a child predator living in your neighborhood you would be so reluctant to do anything about it. I'm pretty sure you would "talk" with the person aswell.

Its a difficult issue, in the UK is legal for a 60 year old to date a 16 year old, in india its legal for an older man to mary a younger girl, in other places its even lower, if a 25 year old in the states has sex with someone who is 16 its illegal but in other countries its not, you cannot condem them to death.

I don't think handing out mandatory death penalties/life sentences for a mental disorder is the way to go. With that said, the development of treatment for pedophilia still has a ways to go, and that creates a huge dilemma for law enforcement and the courts.-Sun_Tzu-

Not to mention, it is only considered a mental disorder based on our society. In many cultures around the world, it is acceptable. While I don't condone pedophilia and believe every step possible should be taken to stop it from happening, I don't think anyone should be put to death because of our society's views of mental conditions.

Did I say "assaullt"? No I said I had a nice long "talk" with the prvert. His crime was molesting a 7 year old girl at his catholic church. All I did was merely persuade him to leave... Don't see what's wrong with that.

I understood your distinction and that post wasn't made to answer you in any case. To answer you, I havea background to this that I won't get into, outside of saying that I fall into the "victim" category. Even then, I can't agree that the legal system should be giving offenders the level of pariah status that death or life behind bars is treated as the defacto answer. It should be based on the level of offense or intent to offend, and the likelihood or actually evidence of re-offending. Penalties should be based on that individually, not with just the most extreme formula we can come up with in order to placate our blood lust or anger. Heck, even for homicide we have varying levels of offense, intent, planning, and possibility of re-offense to decide just how the legal system should respond. We get into real trouble and compromise our own integrity greatly when we pick one-sized answers for a host of individual problems.

Likewise, I find the fact that they are often subject to harrassment from vigilantes to be repugnant. I recognize all too well that the average parent of a child will feel an incredible loss of faculties and possibly have enough anger to kill an offender in the heat of the moment, especially after initially discovering that an offense has occured, but that's why we don't allow vigilantism outside of the immediate need to self-defense and why we don't put people in compromised positions such as that on juries. The legal system should be protecting individuals from such things, even offending individuals, not openly allowing lynch mob justice or so-called "poetic justice" to take place within the penal system.
