I think Iraq is a perfect example of people believing that the weapon system has replaced the man with the gun. It has not. The multi-billion dollar fighterjet will never win the counter-insurgent fight. The future of war is what you saw in Vietnam, what you see in Iraq. Superpowers aren't going to go to war anytime soon.

Ah...it's not that the superpowers can't win....they'd just have to fight like the guerillas...but society doesn't like that. War has to be gentle.

jointed

But that IS how you win. Look back through history. Caesar showed no mercy...Atila the Hun....etc. If you want to win...then you have to fight to win. Otherwise..it's a waste of time.

We do have the best weapons systems in the world but they are irrelevant in a counter-insurgency fight.

They aren't in the stone age as much as people think.mealex

Yeah, just like the US they have legions of carriers and.... wait a sec.

They have modern weapons like the type 81 assault rife type 89 MBT, QBZ-95 rifle

Things like this effect the tactical outcome of a battle only. It's nitpicking.

modern vehicles andairpower, ad they're training isn't horrible they can hold their ground against anyone.

Too bad the US Army and Marine Corp are specifically designed to fight such an opponent.

Also I'm by no means insulting the US's military might, but don't get cocky.

Irrelevant. You are stating your opinion as if it is fact.

As a Canadian, happy to be a alli for America there army is soon going to become unstoppable simply because of the growing technology. an example is the show "FUTURE WEAPONS" showing somer series stuff of what the millitary can do and what they are working on.

simply because of having the most technological advanced army they win.

face it

brb for fools that have rebuttles *shower* my ballllllllllllllllllllllllllllllzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz needdddd a washhhhh after working out

theman9

First of all Im American and I will always support our troops (maybe not what they do especialy when commanded by an Imbecil like george bush) but anybody who is willing to give their life for their country is worthy of some praise and respect. On the other hand however you must be either really ignorant or just plain stupid. I dont know if you have been keeping up on your history but so far EVERY INVINCIBLE army has found itself returning home humiliated and battered by a presumably inferior foe.

A few EXAMPLES The british during colinial times were defeated by a bunch of (what we would call terrorist today). which was a scantly organized militia....and they kicked the living sheet out of the REDJACKETED imperialistic ENGLISH

During WWII the german armed forces belived to be invincible...And they truly had superior weaponry (ex. ME 262, Panzers, ME 109) as you seem so fond to state. and they were defeated .......I take that back they were crushed by a not so advanced army

and more recently VIETNAM......At the time the worlds most powerfull army was defeated by a bunch of ragtag skinny hungry vienamese people. To this day veterans from that war are still suffering the consequences.

Present day IRAQ........You say they shoot us in the back .....you say that were killling them by the hundreds, yet they still keep coming. I sure as hell dont want America to LOOSE this war, the way I see it an American victory would not be harmfull to their way of life, but they are willing to Die just to kill a few of us....I dont know of any US soldier who wants to do something like that I bet you all of them want to come back home...and not strap a few grenades on themselves and go hug a few insurgents..

Id suggest you do the world a favor and read some books that way we will have one less idiot walking the face of the earth/ or throw yourself off a bridge either way would work.

Yes, a prime example would be the German Army you so love to wank.

A few EXAMPLES The british during colinial times were defeated by a bunch of (what we would call terrorist today). which was a scantly organized militia....and they kicked the living sheet out of the REDJACKETED imperialistic ENGLISH

Who didn't really care about the continent anyway. Why do you think far more effort was being placed in India?

During WWII the german armed forces belived to be invincible...And they truly had superior weaponry (ex. ME 262, Panzers, ME 109) as you seem so fond to state. and they were defeated .......I take that back they were crushed by a not so advanced army

Not so advanced? I'm sorry, who developed the A-bomb again? And don't cart out that "lol better technology" bull. The German army's technology was pitiful and broken.

and more recently VIETNAM......At the time the worlds most powerfull army was defeated by a bunch of ragtag skinny hungry vienamese people. To this day veterans from that war are still suffering the consequences.

Because the US actually believed it could wage a politically correct war. Words cannot express how foolish this belief was. But this was a political failing, not military.

Well I thought it's already apparnt that they are hideing and shooting us in the back. C'mon fight like a man because we already know hand to handcombat is already won by us allies

Is dropping bombs from an aircraft really so different from an IED attack? Terrorists would have to be pretty stupid to fight a conventional war against a vastly superior foe. So unless they're TRYING to get themselves killed, why would they NOT resort to guerilla tactics?

[QUOTE="Pythos77"]First of all Im American and I will always support our troops (maybe not what they do especialy when commanded by an Imbecil like george bush) but anybody who is willing to give their life for their country is worthy of some praise and respect. On the other hand however you must be either really ignorant or just plain stupid. I dont know if you have been keeping up on your history but so far EVERY INVINCIBLE army has found itself returning home humiliated and battered by a presumably inferior foe. CaptHawkeye

Umm at that time the Brittish werent really commited to India and had only a few minor expeditions and their interest peaked only after they were ousted from the USA...

If you know anything about weaponry your gonna have to agree that the US military at that time although more numerous and with better logistics was technologicly inferior to german equipment and BTW EINSTIEN, BOHR, OPPENHIEMER....ect ect...were german. (these are guys who were instrumental in the development of the A BOMB. plus the germans had the V2 rocket which is the predecesor of modern ICBMS.....aftter german surrender USA and russia went crazy looking for german scientist to take back home.....ALSO did you know that some german tanks were equiped with night vision??????? ANd im just trying to state that the germans belived their army was invincible but they ended up getting their asses handed to them by the allies whom they considered to be inferior....

and more recently VIETNAM......At the time the worlds most powerfull army was defeated by a bunch of ragtag skinny hungry vienamese people. To this day veterans from that war are still suffering the consequences.

Because the US actually believed it could wage a politically correct war. Words cannot express how foolish this belief was. But this was a political failing, not military.

Again A technologiclly advaced and superior army was DEFEATED/ although done in by the policies of its own leaders. the end result is that we lost. thats all that matters. Although I agree that if it were a conventional war we would have kicked butt. But what your saying reminds me of a little whining kid crying because he lost in a fist fight because the other kid kicked him in the nads...end result he still lost.............

What im trying to say is that even with all our military might were facing an unconventional enemy which cannot be defeated by conventional means(exactly how much progress has been had up to now? it seems we are in way over our heads here).....I dont belive a single US soldier wants to die over there... they on the other hand seem more than willing to kill themselves just to kill a few GI.s

What the hell are you talking about?

Id suggest you do the world a favor and read some books that way we will have one less idiot walking the face of the earth/ or throw yourself off a bridge either way would work.

You might want to grab something some texts for yourself, champ.

I do read alot, And I have actualy published 2 books. Co authored some articles for JAMA.

That's not even the best, The U.S. Government is probably hiding their best weapons.Luminouslight

I would imagine they're not the only ones. Most countries don't like to reveal their best kept secrets.

Just use common logic....no army is unstoppable.

LJS9502_basic

Still waiting on some facts and not opinion...

History. Every 'undefeatable' army has been defeated. It's usually just a matter of time. Some nations retained military superiority for an awfully long time, but no nation has ever retained uncontested military supremacy forever.

I never said they didn't...but he's rather anti American. And I wanted to know what he based his comment on.

Umm at that time the Brittish werent really commited to India and had only a few minor expeditions and their interest peaked only after they were ousted from the USA...Pythos77

Nonsense. The British had been interested in India for years prior to the American failure.

If you know anything about weaponry your gonna have to agree that the US military at that time although more numerous and with better logistics was technologicly inferior to german equipment

Expain what you mean by "technologically inferior".

and BTW EINSTIEN, BOHR, OPPENHIEMER....ect ect...were german. (these are guys who were instrumental in the development of the A BOMB.

Yeah, they were also Allied scientists. Thanks for disproving your own argument.

plus the germans had the V2 rocket which is the predecesor of modern ICBMS

Absolutely. But it was easily Germany's most useless weapon of the war. It took away valuable production time from better weapons all for the sake of giving the Brits a bit of a scare.

.....aftter german surrender USA and russia went crazy looking for german scientist to take back home.....ALSO did you know that some german tanks were equiped with night vision???????

The device was never used in combat since its clarity was insufficient. It was useless beyond600 meters since the infrared search light did not cover a great area.Thedesign was totally redundant anyway since at600 meters you couldtell where an enemy tank was just by listening to it.Their were rumors that an improved model was designed and used, but no proof exists to show it.

ANd im just trying to state that the germans belived their army was invincible but they ended up getting their asses handed to them by the allies whom they considered to be inferior....

They considered the Slavs to be inferior. Hitler actually considered the English to be Aryan.

Again A technologiclly advaced and superior army was DEFEATED/ although done in by the policies of its own leaders. the end result is that we lost.

Yes, as you just said, by its own leaders. You have just admitted that the Vietcong and NVA did NOT defeat the US Army per se.

thats all that matters. Although I agree that if it were a conventional war we would have kicked butt. But what your saying reminds me of a little whining kid crying because he lost in a fist fight because the other kid kicked him in the nads...end result he still lost.............

This analogy is not accurate. Since it claims that the US child was still beaten up by a direct attack from the Vietnamese child.

The reality is, the Vietnamese child got his ass kicked, but the US kid's friends told him to back off. The Vietnamese kid walked away from the fight claiming he "owned" the US kid, even though he spent most of the time on the ground getting in a cheap shot here and there.

The middle east is still head deep in its own religous dark age. If you were to replace the modern middle east with "Medieval Europe", does anyone really think anything would be that different?

Of course, it is for this reason it would be most realistic to simply avoid the area until it gets its head on straight. Unfortunantly, the will of the almighty buyer demands that we stay and harvest oil for their precious consumerist society. It doesn't make me happy any more than you.

I do read alot, And I have actualy published 2 books. Co authored some articles for JAMA.

I find this difficult to believe with your grammar and presentation. So prove it.

Heh. Fair enough. But I do think there is plenty the government knows that we do not.

i would agree with you as i am a fellow american but china is further than us.FLSTS
Hah, if you think that you are seriously misinformed. China wouldnt stand a chance against us in a war, the technological difference is to great. We wouldnt even have to invade, we use Shock and Awe we have air superiority, and Naval Superiority. We have technology that makes the futureweapons technology look like toys.
