An interesting read. Basically sex offender laws become more and more draconian as politicians keep creating more sex laws to gain public appeal and votes and nobody votes against them for fear of looking like they support paedophiles. Here's an example of absurd lawmaking gone wrong:

"Janet Allison was found guilty of being "party to the crime of child molestation" because she let her 15-year-old daughter have sex with a boyfriend. The young couple later married. But Ms Allison will spend the rest of her life publicly branded as a sex offender."

People are so neurotic about sex in this country that I doubt anybody soon will have the guts to fight these kind of laws. I'm all for putting away actual rapists and paedophiles but charging someone for peeing outside or an 18 year old who has sex with his 16 year old girlfriend gets in the way of finding the real offenders.

No kidding. Labeled as a sex offender for peeing outside? Also, prostitution needs to be legal.

An 18-year-old is legally an adult.

A 16-year-old is a child.

Therefore, legally, it is pedophilia.

The parent was an accomplice in child molestation because she allowed her underaged kid to marry an adult.

A person who pees outside and exposes his genitals to somebody is doing the same exact thing as an exhibitionist. It isn't that hard to find a bathroom or even a private outdoor place.

The laws are just fine.

why should prostitution be legal?

Why should the government keep people from being able to have sex? When it is legal, it is safer (for both parties involved), and the government gets tax revenue.

Who said you would be? If it's legal, they can also govern where the services are being advertised. It's when it's illegal that anything goes, not when it's legal.

You can't seriously be comparing rape and pedophilia to prostitution...

And there is a lot of S&M that goes on. What's wrong with S&M between consenting adults who take proper precautions :?

You can degrade the prostitutes all you want. But what about people that can't find sexual partners through non-paying means? Why can you go to a bar, find some random person, have consensual sex, but as soon as money is involved, you both go to jail?

Most people who participate in S&M don't want their limbs to be taken off, just FYI ;) And if they want to be cut during sex, whats wrong with that as long as it isnt lethal. Who are you to judge what someone enjoys?

A quick look at Georgia shows that the TC has a point. [quote="Linked article from The Economist"] Georgia has more than 17,000 registered sex offenders. Some are highly dangerous. But many are not. And it is fiendishly hard for anyone browsing the registry to tell the one from the other. The Georgia Sex Offender Registration Review Board, an official body, assessed a sample of offenders on the registry last year and concluded that 65% of them posed little threat. Another 30% were potentially threatening, and 5% were clearly dangerous. The board recommended that the first group be allowed to live and work wherever they liked. The second group could reasonably be barred from living or working in certain places, said the board, and the third group should be subject to tight restrictions and a lifetime of monitoring. A very small number "just over 100" are classified as "predators", which means they have a compulsion to commit sex offenses. When not in jail, predators must wear ankle bracelets that track where they are.

17 year olds performing oral sex on 16 year olds shouldn't make someone a sex offender for life, if for no other reason than it makes it more difficult and more expensive to follow and track REAL predators because you have to sift through thousands of current and former horny teenagers.

[QUOTE="Engrish_Major"][QUOTE="narutoisapirate"]why should prostitution be legal?

Theokhoth

Why should the government keep people from being able to have sex?

So pedophilia, all kinds of S&M, rape and every other nasty kind of sex should be legal?

S&M and every kind of nasty sex? Sure, it should be. Who am I to say a woman cant give a man a Hot Karl?

But pedophelia and rape, no, those should not be legal.

And as for the 16 year old having sex with an 18 year old, that is not pedophelia...that is statutory rape, a minor crime despite the word rape being there (there is always movement to change the name, from both sides of the "crime", to have it renamed). 18 years old is too old imo, especially if the person is in a relationship. I forgot the statistic but I think it was 80% of people have sex by the time theyre out of high school. My point? Having sex at an age under 18 years old is natural. Quite honestly I think when you get to high school the school system should educate you about sex properly, telling you its great while also telling you how to be safe and essentially telling you not to be a hooker, then you should be legal.

ANd peeing outside is absolutely not exhibitionism. Exhibitionism is standing in front of everyone, dangling your junk saying "Woooo look at me". Public urination is sneaking off to a secluded corner and taking a leak while trying to remain unseen. If someone rolls up on you, well, thats just bad luck on their part and sorry you had to see that but you'll get over it.

Its just a penis.

And I never said the ones who want limbs to be taken off should be allowed to do so, that would be something that most would consider extreme. The vast majority of S&M is not that extreme. And like I said, if they want some pain during sex, what is the problem with that? Some people really enjoy that. If they want to do that to tmenselves, I ask again, who are you to judge?

Because anyone who has morality and ethics believes it to be wrong and i find it wrong. There are plenty of other way to make money..

In no way did your response answer his question. Your response consisted of two parts: Part 1: Anyone with morality and ethics finds prostitution wrong Part 2: I find it wrong! You then added in an irrelevant thought that there are plenty of other ways of making money, which is completely obvious. But none of these things actually presented any reason WHY prostitution is wrong. Illegal, yes. And yes there is a big difference between forced and willing prostitution. But you did not in any way back up your claim with any reasoning other than to restate your own beliefs.

my bad...but it's enough to live on..

Xx_Hopless_xX

That still doesn't address the question why, logically, two consenting adults shouldn't be able to pay to have sex.

Edit - nocoolnamejim said this better right above me.

Because it's wrong to pay people for their bodies?..

Xx_Hopless_xX

Why is it wrong? Because you said so? Or beause the religious roundation that North America is built on says so?

Because anyone who has morality and ethics believes it to be wrong and i find it wrong. There are plenty of other way to make money..

Morality is subjective. Morals are different in every culture. I find it hilarious how sex is such a taboo thing in north America, but extreme violence in all forms of media is fine.

And there may be many different ways to make money, but if someone wants to do it that way, and they have takers, why should they be limited not to?

An 18-year-old is legally an adult.

A 16-year-old is a child.

Therefore, legally, it is pedophilia.

The parent was an accomplice in child molestation because she allowed her underaged kid to marry an adult.

A person who pees outside and exposes his genitals to somebody is doing the same exact thing as an exhibitionist. It isn't that hard to find a bathroom or even a private outdoor place.

The laws are just fine.

Theokhoth

Well, just because it's the law doesn't necessarily mean it's right or in the public's best interest. I mean, the 18 year old shouldn't be on the same list as the 40 year old who rapes a 7 year old. Same with the person peeing outside, that's very harsh. At the most the persong peeing should just get a slap on the wrist or a minor indecency charge. It's mostly just drunk college kids who do it anyway I they shouldn't have their names tarnished for life for one mistake. Kids in high school shouldn't be punished by law for having sex, they should be educated on how to participate in safe sex.

Also I don't find prostitution an issue. It's an example of a victimless crime, two consenting individuals except one person is paying. If regulated properly with routine STD checking, use of condoms every time, etc. it will be much safer as well. Street walkers will still be at risk if they hook up with a maniac but if prostitution was kept in the brothels the prostitutes will be at far less a risk to harm.

Workers at McDonalds make a fraction of what prostitutes make, you cant living on flipping burger salary.

$10 an hour isn't too bad...thats around (working 10 hrs a day 5 days a week) $5,000 a week...people live on it...

You are not a math major are you? $10 x 10 hours x 5 days = $500 per week, not $5000 -that is before taxes

That's also before figuring out that you won't get $10 an hour working at McDonalds :|

because it's not that hard to have sex with someone you love. Paying for it seems pathetic and desperate if you ask me. And the prostitute should find a better job, she has to give most of her money to the "pimp" anyway.

Questions:

1. Is it ok for a man or woman to have a Sugarmamma or SugarDaddy (someone that pays for everything for them), even if they are monogomous

2. Is it ok for a wife (or husband ) to stay in a marriage soley for financial reasons (divorce is expensive, can't make it on their own, etc.)

3. Is it ok for a husband or wife to give sexual favors as a reward (like many wives do for husbands)

My point being is that there is a very grey area about what is/is not prostitution
