They should do it. It's not a bad thing to change the source material to make it more original. It probably wouldn't help it at the box office though since there's likely homophobic people that would boycott it.

Yeah of course, it has nothing to do with the fact that it'd be shitting on a half a century long legacy, it's all about homophobic people who would boycott it.

To be fair, comic book series always shit on their own legacy by making retcons and reboots.

And always by the actual authors and for storytelling reasons, not because some shithead that knows nothing about the franchise thinks it'd be more politically correct.

Which authors? At least with long-running series, it's rare that the author who CREATED the character is still writing the series. At that point, all of the authors are simply writing for hire on a property which isn't their own and they didn't create. It's not really all that different from some up-and-coming movie writer getting hired to write a movie based on the character.

An interracial gay couple, how edgy. The next movie should deal with Spider-Man's gender identity, half way through that movie he should be post op.

Since Spider-Man is already established as being straight (or bisexual I guess?), it would be kind of weird to suddenly flip like that. And I think it would piss a lot of people off, because it really wouldn't add much to the story and would only be done for the sake of making a gay (bi?) Spider Man.

Exactly. When was the last time Stan Lee really worked on the Spider-Man series? 40 years ago?

From what i understand he's still advising those who've taken up writing the stories in his place. Much like George Lucas will not so much be writing or having any input in the new star wars, but will be there to answer any lore questions he may have fleshed out but hadn't really included.

Honestly I kinda doubt that. There's been decades of lore crafted without him and for that matter he hasn't really been involved with Marvel in any meaningful way since the 1990s.

It might actually make me want to watch another Spiderman movie, if only for the new found comedic value a gay Spiderman would bring.

I was sorely disappointed with the amount of jokes in Amazing Spiderman. He only made like 3 corny jokes, I was hoping for at least 10.

Ditto. It was like they just stuck in a few token wisecracks so they could say "Hey! He's funny this time!"
