I know there is a few other smoking topics bumping around the first few pages, but I don't think this would fit into any of the original topics in those threads so I'll pop up a new one. What goes through anti-smokers heads when they wanna walk up to me and sit there complaining about how smoking is bad and second hand smoke is dangerous when I'm smoking a cigarette? I know its politically cool to hate on smokers because the government can make so much money off of their BS taxes on us, but most anti-smokers don't even know what there talking about. What makes them feel the need to rage at me and be a **** when I'm sitting off in the middle of no where hurting no one until they walk up to me and *****. Do they think I know nothing about smoking? I hope they know that smoking is a major part of my life so I do know more about the risks then they do.

My favorite rant ever = caution... don't click if under 18

But, be warned the craiglist rant is filled with adult language that most people will be offended by. Don't even click it if your under 18...

Cool blog

Only a small percent of anti-smokers annoy me. Like the kind who purposely cough when they see you smoking. Like, come on :x

It is a big part of my life and this is the only place I talk about it. I would start some religious threads, but those never go over well here... Oh but I do dislike religions more then I dislike anti-smokers...

It reminds me of an old 7th Heaven episode I saw. I've only seen the show a few times, but those times were really preachy. The one in particular was all about anti-smoking. It got to the point that even a anti smoker would laugh at the efforts the show was going to.

I never really understood the hate on smoking, either. I mean, as long as you're not blowing smoke into other peoples' faces, or whatever, what business is it of anybody else's if you want to smoke?

I agree. Nothing annoys me more than when I smoke a cigarette between ****s and have someone walk by and obnoxiously cough loud or tell me to quit stinking up the campus, when Im already hudled behind a building in the smoking section.

I mean, I don't even smoke, unless friends are over and they brought their hookah, and I think it's really silly that people can seriously get so upset over stuff like this.

My mom smoked around me for years, which I then developed asthma. Not like I could get away from it since it was in the house and my sisters started smoking and my dad smoked (but quit because he hated getting sick all the time). Now if I'm around it, I'll have an allergic reaction, which will turn in an asthma attack.

I ask my mom to quit, sometimes pester her about it, so I can be around her more and not feel sick when I smell the smoke from her clothes.

Is that so bad and not okay to be an anti-smoker, then?

I don't think the adverse health effects of being exposed to second-hand smoke are that severe unless you're exposed to it on almost a day-to-day basis (but I'm not an expert, so if it turns out I'm wrong, I'll retract my statement.) If that's the case (such as with your mother's smoking), then the problem is that the people you see so often should be more considerate of your health; the problem is NOT smoking in general.

I have no problem with people smoking.... as long as they do it someplace where I am not subjected to the second hand smoke. I don't like the smell and I don't wanna have that stuff go into my body. Other then that, suit yourself.

Fair enough. Anyway, fun rant. Reminds me of Dennis Leary, back before he became an irrelevant middle aged fart.

*edit* Incidentally, here's what Dennis Leary was, kind of ironically, roped into in Britain.

and here's a nice little relevant quote to play him off:

"It's hard to live by the old macho code these days. They've chipped away at it over the years, slowly but surely. Drinking has been reduced to a few beers or a couple of whiskeys, if that. Otherwise, your AA friends begin to stare across the table with that "I personally think you have a problem and that all alcohol should be banned so that I won't feel the urge to drink myself into a naked stupor but I'm not gonna say anything" look on their faces. No mess, no mauling, no mistress, no mas."

Most anti-smokers I run into are those that walk up to me when I'm off in the corner by the ash tray in the few areas I'm allowed to smoke. I don't support people smoking in the house of people young or in the car with there children. That's the only time second hand smoke really can hurt you. If your in a closed house the smoke has no place to air out to unlike outside and then it can be a problem. I only smoke in my car when I'm alone and I smoke out side so the people that Rage at me about second hand smoking really don't know what they are talking about.

It's not smoking that irritates me. It's you, the smoker. You have no self-discipline. You're weak. You're short-sighted. You're a coward. You puff on a white stick for a momentary high to help you through what the rest of us endure without much problem (life). You were stupid enough to willfully develop an addiction to something that A) is horrible for you and the people around you, and B) doesn't ACTUALLY help you cope with anything AT ALL, because now you're a slave to your habit IN ADDITION to any reasons that might have prompted you to start smoking cigarettes to begin with.

And if you started smoking because you thought it was 'cool', or if you started for no reason at all...well, first of all you're an idiot. Second of all, you're an idiot. Smokers piss me off.

I wish you would have read my link... It addresses you perfectly in a way I'm not allowed to on this site...

edit: There are addictive ingredients in most things you see on a day to day basis... do you ever have caffeine or fast food? If you regularly have either of those your not any smarter them me...

It doesn't address much of what I said at all, and none of those are legitimate arguments in favor of being able to smoke anyways. "It feels ****ing good"...great argument; it just reinforces what I said in my first post.

I don't care if I'm over-simplifying, but if I am, can you explain how?

Unless somebody became addicted to cigarettes involuntarily, which is borderline impossible, you're not going to get any sympathy from me.

The only smokers that make me angry are the ones that are walking through crowds smoking. Other than that, feel free. Just don't come near me when you're doing it. And don't litter. I have cited smokers for putting their butts out on public property because it's a major pet-peeve, and quite frankly, it's disgusting.

My mom banned smoking in the house after she realized that I was wheezing and coughing and overall seemed like I had a cold. I was better when she started smoking outside and realized a huge difference. Then my sister moved back in, so I had to share rooms with my other sister. Well, my other sister didn't exactly like the rule of smoking outside, so she smoked in the room we shared. Every time I tried to sleep, both my sisters would smoke in that room and I couldn't sleep and ended up being unable to breathe at night. My sisters even got pissed when I said I couldn't breathe when they smoked and got even more pissed when my mom told them not to smoke in their car because it made me sick. They believed I was lying and just trying to get them not to smoke because it never "bothered" me before.

Luckily, I don't have to deal with it much. It's being outlawed everywhere across the country and taxed like crazy, which are both very good things. I also work in a professional environment that smokers are too lazy to be successful in.

Taxes I agree with but how is it being outlawed across the country when it is perfectly legal to smoke and shall be for a long time. Perhaps not in certain places such as restaurants but that doesn't stop people from smoking. The ignorance though in your statement is that smokers are too lazy to be successful in your profession. Yeah ok than what do you do for a living and provide proof that not one single smoker does the same job.

Luckily I haven't really run into super preachy/hateful anti-smokers except for here on the internet. I mostly just get kindly informed that I should stop, which I probably should. I'll understand it, but it still makes rather peeved regardless.

Just make sure it is far enough from me and the wind didn't blow it to me, I am ok with it. But, typically they didn't do that and I can smell the smoke. And I have right to breath instead of getting choked.magicalclick
You also have the right to walk further away if you are getting smoke in your face just as much as the smoker has a right to smoke. You have free will to walk away so use it

Nope, I am at a bus stop.

You don't have to stand at a bus stop until you see the bus approaching. You can walk 10 feet away and be perfectly fine. I have stood at bus stops as well and if I am smoking I tend to walk around 15-20 feet away (at least) from the actual sign so as to not bother other people waiting.

Eh, anti-smokers are just entitled to feeling strongly about it, as you are. You seem to be blurring the actions of a select few here with the general views of all people who are against smoking. Smoking is a habbit that affects everyone around you, you should know this, and you should be about to accept that if you want to keep smoking.

Are you kidding? Look at what's happening. In many, many states and municipalities now, it's illegal to smoke in bars, in restaurants, near a school, near a library, near a government building, in "areas to which substantial public use is common" (nice broad judicial language there). It will only be a matter of time before you can smoke in your home, if you are alone, and nowhere else.

But then again, I'm super freaking stressed and I kinda want to start smoking.

I'm not anti-smoking, I just think it's highly unattractive.

But then again, I'm super freaking stressed and I kinda want to start smoking.

How awesome. :|

Unless you've already smoked before and gained the addiction, I wouldn't recommend it for anything.

I smoked a little bit in the past, never really became addicted.

Of course I shouldn't start. :P

Meh. :?

I don't care if they smoke, it's their life. But, just to let them know... they stink. I hate when someone just got done smoking and they get on the elevator. :( I knew there was a reason for having stairs. :P

[QUOTE="testfactor888"][QUOTE="magicalclick"] Nope, I am at a bus stop.magicalclick

You don't have to stand at a bus stop until you see the bus approaching. You can walk 10 feet away and be perfectly fine. I have stood at bus stops as well and if I am smoking I tend to walk around 15-20 feet away (at least) from the actual sign so as to not bother other people waiting.

You might as well tell me to stop breathing.

You are going around 10 miles beyond the realm of realism and rationality with this comment

[QUOTE="testfactor888"][QUOTE="Communistik"]Luckily, I don't have to deal with it much. It's being outlawed everywhere across the country and taxed like crazy, which are both very good things. I also work in a professional environment that smokers are too lazy to be successful in.Communistik

It won't ever go that far.

I love my cancer sticks honestly. Sometimes anti-smokers piss me off, but I just shrug them off because they are just nosy and like to get in other's business. That above the influence is great all, if you wanna be a follower go a head and do that :). I'll continue to be myself and smoke happily. In honor of you TC im going to light up a smooth menthol right now and smoke because it's fun to piss off the anti-smokers too :). Will you be so kind as to join me?

As I said before, I don't even smoke (aside from hookah with company), but I seriously think you're oversimplifying.

I don't care if I'm over-simplifying, but if I am, can you explain how?

Unless somebody became addicted to cigarettes involuntarily, which is borderline impossible, you're not going to get any sympathy from me.

Sorry, was reading this thread and posting inbetween working on a paper. I just got it done, but it's like 4:30 in the morning, so I'm far too tired to elaborate right now.

If you're still interested, I can PM you my my answer sometime tomorrow.

I use to smoke full flavors myself but my grandparents bought a smoke shop and there was a case of Newports that couldn't be sold (pre NY state tax stamped). So they gave them all to me for free :). After that case of cigarettes was gone (lasted me like 3 months). I was sorta hooked on menthol haha.

I didn't have a big problem with smoking until I hit high school and the smokers clogged up all the entrances, forcing me to wade through their noxious fumes to get in and out of school. Until then, it was a "you stay away from me, I stay away from you" relationship, but pretty much after elementary school, through high school and through college, smokers are everywhere and always seem to clog up the entranceways to buildings. I mean, quick tip: if you want to smoke, follow the rules laid out on the signs saying no smoking within 20m of the building. That way I can get into classes without feeling nauseous. It's not my business what people waste their money and health on, but it is when they're affecting my day to day activity. *shrug*

I don't care if you smoke or not, but only where you smoke. People who smoke at doorways makes me want to punch them.
