This thread is an interesting read and I would like to comment on certain things starting from the quote below. I initially talk in general about religion and later on you may comment if some of them apply or not to Islam.

[QUOTE="hagiiiiiiiiii"][QUOTE="Gipsyeyes"]You talk like you knew this Aisha. ... dk_2007

Well facts are facts, you also talk like you've seen Aisha in real life.

I would like to correct the above sentence by saying that nothing is a fact regarding the conversation on Aisha. It would seem more correct if you say that it is a belief.

Now, when we start to use belief then the problem is that everything can be believed. If there is some fault in the thinking then why not just invent a satisfactory answer and use belief in the end to justify it.

Is it not the basis of all the religions? that is belief.

Now, all the writings are believed to be directly from God. What if this statement is invented so that nobody questions the authority? What if more and more questions are answered and with generations and iterations, answers are made to look better?

Another problem (I am not an atheist) with this is that later on many people misinterpret "these" writings. Moreover, how do we know if these writings are perfect in the first place? Is it not possible that they are biased and influenced from the thinking of the person who wrote them?

I will show an example. It is regarding the point that women are not considered equal in many religions and from the discussion above, it seems that it "may be" the case with Islam. The reason to this inequality could be that because the religious writings were written by a man and his minute selfish thought might have influenced these writings to favour men over women. It looks very much possible to me.

My last and another point is that if a guy believes in God, but doesnt agree with the "definition" of God according to others or some religious writings then he may not be an atheist. The problem here is that what is the definition of God? Suppose it means that God is the one who created us then even scientists and so called Atheists are not atheists because every logical person believes that something created them.

Its faith that's behind religions - a particular variety of irrational belief.

Atheists do not believe God(s) exist - so if you believe there is a God of some description, then you're not an atheist.

Atheists do not believe God(s) exist - so if you believe there is a God of some description, then you're not an atheist.

What I am saying is that these people do not believe in "God" defined by some writings. But, do you think that athiests dont believe in a creator or creation process? Who is this creator?
