I am a 15 year old guy and can't understand what most teens my age find so amazing about all this rap music. It just doesn't WOW me and i can't find any entertainment value from it. Sure i'll listen to tec and hip hop... at a dance, not while i'm sitting in my room on my computer. As a musician this also angers me, because I know for a fact that the people making this "music" are barely of any musical backround and just know how to rhyme a few curse words together about sex, drugs, or any other steriotypical **** that society is coming to accept as normal. I'd way rather listen to a solid album, like Breaking Benjamin's "Dear Agony",(Greatest Band Ever IMO), that expresses what the artist feels about life, and experiences, and what is truly important. What is even more depressing, is that kids younger than their teen years are looking up to artists like Kesha and not knowing what their songs really mean or the innuendos that are placed in them.

I know this may sound like a rant, which in a way it is, and i'm sorry if I have offended anyone who likes this kind of music, you're entitled to your own opinion. I just want to know if anyone is on my side?

I like technicality and melody in my music. It's way more talented than some hack radio artists.

None of it really gets to me, and if I find the world goes hip-hop mad and any other type of music comes to a sudden stop, then i'll make it myself. But we know that won't happen, because there are millions of people who would feel the same way, so I won't be alone, so the music won't stop.

I used to be on your side...when I was 13 and didn't know any better. Now I have the mental capacity to listen to all genres and all the best they have to offer. And Hip Hip/ Rap's best is certainly not found in mainstream media.

There's plenty of good music out there... You just might have to dig for it. I don't understand a lot of what's currently popular either, but I wouldn't go as far as damning absolutely everything contemporary.

That is where I lost you.

Their is some legitimate hip hop that has some artistic value (check out Nas and Marley's new album distant relatives) you just got to look.

Breaking Benjamin to me has the same problem that many artists of the hip hop genre have, obviously just for a different market. They would rather release the same album over and over focusing on all the same emotions because that is what will sell and make everyone a lot of money. I liked we are not alone, but everything I have heard since then sounds the exact same to me...

I like music more now than ever. The great thing about music is that it doesn't go away. Meaning that all of the great music from earlier periods of time still exist while there's still some good music being produced now and even more in the future.

If you listen to their earlier albums (Breaking Ben) than you will realize they are not recycling the same stuff over and over again like what the current hip hop industry is doing. Most of their earlier work is upbeat, while their newer work is darker.

You know what I hate? When people complain aboutcertain typesof music not being popular or accepted, but they pirate CDs. By you downloading CDsit hurts sales.

Less albums sold =bad business for record companies.

They're not going to promote something that they aren't going to make billions off of.

I am more tired of every song having the same exact kind of design. They all seem to have the same ups and downs and none of them seem to have any understandable lyrics.

I was just thinking, what are the current "classic" songs that we will hear on the oldies station in 30 years? Lady Gaga? :? Justin Beiber? :o Seriously, there doesn't seem to be anything of any real quality.

I've heard both and I can't understand how someone would say Breaking Benjamin is more dynamic than a Nas or Jay-Z in term of material and subject matter.

Today, almost a vast majority (not all) of the music is bad.....in every genre, not just in rap.

I'd rather listen to glam rock hair bands I grew up on than today's rock and faux metal.

Probably be more along the lines of the Black keys, mastodon, white stripes, outkast, t.v. on the radio, phoenix, there is plenty of good stuff out there and hopefully in the long run it will outshine all this garbage on the radio.

The good sir is 15. There's a high percent chance he'll hear logic and go "Lalala can't hear you. All I hear is my opinion on the genre."

Rap and stuff seems to be one of the most popular music genres these days, from what I've heard on the radio and stuff. I hate rap.

there is good rap you just have to know where to look. start with stuff like Jay-Z'z Blueprint, Eminem's Infinite/Shady LP/Marshal mathers LP, Nas' Illmatic if you still dont appreciate rap after you've tried those albums then i dunno what to say.

Please...

Jay-Z - The Blueprint

Jay-Z - The Black Album

Nas - Stillmatic

Eminem - The Eminem Show

Outkast - Speakerboxxx/The Love Below

and these are just from mainstream hip-hop artist, throw in the hundred underground acts making good music and you have tons of great music.

I think you're just going through your teen music elitist stage.

Yeah, that's your opinion. Which is great and all, but just because you don't like it doesn't mean that it's crap.

the_new_guy_92

It might....I'm all for people having different opinions, but if your opinion is that you enjoy the musical equivalent of leftover spam that is being fed to you for the third day in a row after being reheated in the microwave, then it is fair to say that your opinion sucks.

what is the musical equivalent of spam?

In music I look for:

Talented and creative musicianship

Creative songwriting: ex. melody, harmony, rhythm, etc

Thoughtful/meaningful lyrics

If you examine most of the music you hear on popular radio today you will find very little of any of that. Maybe "I hate everything about you. Why do I love you?" and "this is why I'm hot, I don't have to rap" strikes a chord in some, but it is usually easy to tell when a song has been crafted with care versus when it has been designed and produced to sell in mass quantities for the public consumption (spam)

Every rap album that came out for the last 10 years

Please... Jay-Z - The Blueprint Jay-Z - The Black Album Nas - Stillmatic Eminem - The Eminem Show Outkast - Speakerboxxx/The Love Below and these are just from mainstream hip-hop artist, throw in the hundred underground acts making good music and you have tons of great music. I think you're just going through your teen music elitist stage.

I do enjoy some of eminem's work. He is the only rapper i actually have respect for. Other than that I have never liked rap in my entire life, so I don't think what I enjoy now is just some "stage"

Why do you listen to the radio then, aren't you old enough to find your music elsewhere?

Strange you only like Eminem when there are plenty of rappers with better lyrical ability and production than him?

I wouldn't say plenty. He probably only likes Lose Yourself though.
