i seriously wonder how ppl from today would react to world war 2, or a more 'actual' war.

probably piss themselves.

On the thread: I have no problem with the guy signing, but I bet they chewed him out because generally they tell you not to chat or say dumb things over airwaves. You're supposed to keep it mission chat only.

What was sung did not necessarily go out over the airwaves. A single click of the button on the control stick opens the ICS or Interal Communications System found in aircraft so aircrew can talk amongst themselvs. 2 clicks or pushing in all the way in connects the mic to the actual UHF or VHF radios. You would be surprised what is talked about over the ICS (been there done that as aircrew in helicopters).

I hope that people who have no problem with this imagine the insurgents or a terrorist doing the same thing.kuraimen

Oh, you mean like the terrorists who filmed themselves decapitating American hostages and singing and dancing and cheering after they did so? They do it already and yet people like you do seem to condone them doing so. Then again, your anti-US rhetoric has always been strong. What if those same terrorists were doing that to Costa Ricans? Would you still begrudge your military for singing while killing terrorists or insurgents?

It is my contention that the Allies would have lost WWII if we had the instant communications that we have today back then. People do not realize that war is a nasty business and that it is bloody and gory and that people lose their lives and in many unpleasent ways.

This is such a ****ed arguement. The military is there to defend a country's citizens. They're not there to fight senseless wars, and laugh and dance and sing while they sit there firing missiles from miles away. There's a difference between a soldier who fights to defend his country, his people, his wife and children. And soldiers who sing songs, and act as though the lives of others are worth nothing.

Likewise i'm sure they dont have much trouble, >Press button >Sing Song >Watch as people die. >"Nice kill, now who's our next target?" It's not like this is the first video to be leaked where US soldiers dont give a **** about killing people. There was that one where they gunned down a van full of children, after killing a reporter, and they were laughing and cheering. It makes me sick. Defending your nation is one thing, but laughing at someone's loss of a loved one? That's cold.

The US has a fair share of douchebags joining the military. But the guy in the video provided in the OP is a perfect example of a normal person coping with the rigours of war.

He was singing in a joyous manner, while firing a missile at a man.
That is by no means acceptable, and wouldn't be the case if he understood the value of human life.

Again, easy for you to criticize behind a keyboard. The man in the video is desensitized. When you look at porn nowadays, do you get the same thrill compared to when you first looked at it? I rest my case. When you do something for a long time, it'll start to sink in and get dull, no matter what it is. Even killing people.

This reminds me of that movie:

"They train young men to drop fire on people. But their commanders won't allow them to write f**k on their airplanes because it is obscene."

It's ridiculous that they question the morality of singing while killing people and not the act of killing itself.

MacBoomStick

Basically.

What I wonder most at this point is whether or not the people killed in that video were actually innocent farmers as is claimed. This question alone renders the whole discussion on the singing completely irrelevant.

As far as he knew they were insurgents so it wouldn't mater anyways.

It does matter. If he thought they were insurgents and he had information or another valid reason that made him believe that, then it isn't his fault. But every civilian casualty is one too many.

I don't see the problem here. He has to kill those people no matter what. If singing makes him feel better about doing it then let him sing. Saying "nice" here is the equivalent of saying "good hit".

It's like people just found out about what war is like.

One is dispicable due to the savagery displayed by those who are dancing around the head that they just cut off on their own accord. The others engaged an operation to remove a threat to others. Those who decapitated their enemies are the ones who declared war on the US, not the other way around. Their engagement of the US means that there will be those who seek to lighten the job they are doing against an enemy who declared themselves as such. Signing songs while killing one's enemies has been going on since war has been around. Get over it.

You do realize that for terrorists YOU are the enemy? So from their point of view they might be thinking the same thing. For americans not just cutting off heads is a savagery but also the 9/11 attacks. While for many afghans it was just killing the enemy while they see the Abu Ghraib pics or a soldier dropping bombs on top of them while singing a savagery. And, as I see it, the US has been declaring war on the region long before 9/11. I won't stop denouncing injustice as I see it no matter where it comes from so get over it.

So jelly... I wish we could murder people around the world with little consequences and be proud of it... soooooo jelly.

To do that you need an army. Something you guys don't have.

One thing some people may not realise about being in the military is the irony.

On one hand, as a Soldier your main job (unless you're a Chaplain, since they don't carry weapons) is to kill the enemy. If you are a support job (medic, cook, finance, etc.) then your main job is your duty position but you still have to be ready to kill.

On the other hand, military rules are so strict that you could be thrown in jail for being late to work a few times versus just risking getting fired like a civilian. Also, while a married civilian can cheat on their spouse without legal consequence adultery is illegal in the military.

If people want to call that pilot sick because he was singing then that is your right to call him sick. But I can bet money he has a wife and kids back her in the US and he probably never misses a sports game or dance recital his kids have while back home.

You have such a disgusting view of everything... it's not even laughable.

You have no idea what my views are......

You make them pretty evident...
Who says I applaud terrorists doing that? For me they're despicable but then again I also find a soldier dropping bombs on people and singing while doing it despicable. The difference between you and me is that you find one despicable and the other don't.kuraimen

Give me and everyone here the instances where the US went in and killed unarmed civilians before 1980. You cannot. Beruit Lebonon, 1983, Marines killed while trying to help with a civil war there. 1986, Americans killed in a disco in Germany by Libyans. 1993, Pan Am 103 bombing over Lockerbie Scotland where Libyans killed everyone on board from multiple countries including 178 Americans. 1985, handicapped and wheelchair bound US citizen shot and shoved overboard during the Achille Lauro. 1993, WTC 1 bombing. 1998, US embassies in East Africa bombed by Al Qaeda after they declared a fatwa and against all Americans whether armed or not. This fatwa also led to the unprovoked 9-11 attacks.

Bin Laden was butthurt over the fact that an Arab country asked the US for help in getting it's country back from a madman and despot, instead of them using his people. Hence is so called war against the US (my opinion). Being that he declared war on the US and has attacked unarmed US citizens, the US can go to where he is at to fight him and his so called army. While there have been some instances of civilian your so called freedom fighters do. I could see them as freedom fighters if they would not so willingly blow their own unknowing countrymen up as they blow themselves up.

If you want to denounce injustice, then you should be castigating the Taliban, the PLO, Hamas, Al Qaeda et. al for killing the innocents that they do. It's one thing to attack armed combatants, but it is another to target and attack those who have nothing to do with the war that they started.

I wonder what tune he would sing if the airport at San José or other Costa Rican cultural attractions or finance centers were attacked and destroyed and killed hundreds or thousands of his fellow countrymen.

That's how war is, it helps with the morbid reality of it. I think its inhumane; but then again, is war humane?

I don't have a problem with him singing, if he was killing innocent people killing them would be a problem, but if he is killing armed militants he's not doing anything wrong.

If my country was doing sh1t in the country of those people who came and attacked us I wouldn't feel good about my country acting all self-righteous and telling me they did because they hate my freedom. I would actually BS and try to stop my government from doing the crap they're doing.

I am quite frankly appalled. The pilot is raining death on these all these insurgents. All these men, desperate, scared, sons, brothers, perhaps fathers. All dying. At the very least he could do it respectfully!
If you have a problem with this (and I do), perhaps you should consider the inhumanity of war rather than focus on the disrespect of the pilot. Seriously. The US wars are so out of the spotlight, but if we saw more of the reality I doubt as many would stand idly by.
