So I've seen a lot of dislike towards these series, and it just makes me curious. Are they really as bad as people say they are?

I don't think that people dislike One Piece or DBZ in particular, just that the OT isn't really into those type of animes. Kind of reminds me of the rock topics and how the most critically acclaimed out now (U2, Coldplay) aren't mentioned. I doubt I would find many who would say that those two bands are generic or bad here in the OT, same for One Piece and DBZ.

Haven't read Bleach, but those are really good at what they try to do - give you a bunch of fights.

One Piece was pretty fun from what little I watched of it, DBZ is bad, haven't watched any of the other two (but Naruto looks really bad).

Dragon ball was pretty cool, DBZ was slightly worse and got even worse over time. Naruto isn't bad at all, just don't go into it expecting some great storyline. I mean you have to remember that these are comics made for children/teenagers.

Naruto is pushing 100+ filler episodes... And the character himself is insultingly stupid. Every event, that includes Naruto, is explained multiple times at toddler level comprehension for his dim ass to get it.

My friends were having a DBZ marathon when we was all gathered this one time. I was on my PSP but as I looked over to the TV I realized that not only did it take this guy like 4 whole episodes to power up, but the guy he killed came back like 5 times. It looked unrealistically boring and stupid.

thats what happens with long shows, you are going to have filler arcs and such to give time. Nothing really they can do besides put the show on hold like bleach is doing

I love DBZ, like Bleach, am a passing fan of Naruto's battle scenes, and can't stand One Piece.

Overall, no, they're not.

Don't judge it based off the anime version, at least not the original. DBZ Kai gets rid of most of the pointless powering up and screaming scenes, and the manga barely has any.

I've never been huge on anime, so the appeal was lessened greatly.

DBZ is good, provided you stick with the Z series and only expect awesome fighting with a story just decent enough to hold it together (aka not that deep), and Naruto is very good. Lots of backstories that really get you to feel for all the characters (both villains and heroes), but beware a lot of the beginning episodes Naruto is quite annoying. He get's better as the show progresses, but pretty cringeworthy stuff from him early on.

Edit. I really have zero experience with the other two animes you mentioned.

I understand, I'm not a major anime fan myself. I just thought I'd let you know that DBZ isn't as bad as the original version of it made it seem.

Kai was annoying. The powering up was certainly DBZ's biggest weakness, but I also feel like it provided build up which was simultaneously it's greatest strength. Honestly by the time the build up was done I was so pumped for the fight.

Considering all of those are intended for kids and rather early teens it is normal for people older to not have the same appreciation. I watched DBZ in the late 80s and early 90s with english subs. It was entertaining then since I was in that age group. DBZ, One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach only age well with you if you refuse to.

Shonen manga/anime like this are intended to have a really broad audience. Saying that they are intended just for kids and young teens is pretty wrong.

One Piece, mainly the second half of what's out right now, is really awesome (I don't read it for the fights). Plot-wise it goes a lot deeper than Bleach and Dragonball Z. I don't know anything about Naruto.

Naruto is full of cringeworthy stuff where we're at now. With him teaming up with the fox through the power of friendship and him treating the tailed beasts not like monsters. I hate those pages, it's just like get back to the fighting.

The only thing that pie chart says is that older people can enjoy the same thing kids do. You need to show the other way around to make a point. The target audience and content is simplistic with a usual male lead often, but not always, revolving around fighting. This typically is targeted towards the definition.

Also just to help teach you about critical thinking.. I'd like to remind you that OP is 15 years old. Readers age as well. People tend to want to see a story finish once they start it.

one piece is amazing, great well thought out story, avoids the "power of friendship trope" and excellent fight scenes.

DBZ is DBZ

the entire point of naruto seems to be to get your hopes up and then smash them later.

bleach just plain sucks, its not even popular in japan anymore, glad its canceled.

however Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is the best manga ever.

I stopped watching the anime to Naruto a long time ago but the manga is still fun to read.

DBZ is DBZ. I still have fun watching it from time to time (whether it's the original or Kai).

One Piece anime and manga are good. Long but still entertaining. I like where it's going right now and I also find it consistent compared to Naruto and Bleach.

Bleach is awful. I'm not surprised the anime was cancelled.

I find Naruto to be simply horrible, Bleach was good at a point but overstayed its welcome, and One Piece is just okay...funnily enough I've never watched DBZ. Thing is that there are tons of shows which deserve way more praise than those four titles so that might be where peoples hatred of them stems from

I don't think any of the 4 are flat out bad. I've seen way worse anime.

In fact, I started out liking Bleach, DBZ, and Naruto for about the first 50-100 or so episodes. But they are all way too long, cliched, and riddled with too many useless fillers. Some of them also suffer from some plot holes and inconsistensies later down the line. Oh and how about them Deus ex machinas....

DBZ gets a speacial place in people's hearts though, because its the grandaddy of all long, drawn out, convulted shonen anime. It simply did it first and people ate it up.
