I am an atheist and I do not celebrate those holidays, I just give gifts to whoever gives me a gift. Their reason doesn't matter to me, I just return the favor.

Christmas is a purely commercial holiday. Any religious connections it has are merely coincidental.

I am an atheist and I celebrate Christmas. I celebrate Christmas because the rest of my family celebrates Christmas, and Christmas is pretty much the only time of year that we get togewther. So I think it'd be pretty ****headed of me to intentionally stay away from my family during the one time that we come together, with my excuse being "I can't socialize with you on moral grounds because I dont believe in god".

And I'm not gay I just have sex with other men.

PS: And yes, I realize that that is grammatically incorrect. But I've tried to fix my punctuation errors twice, and Gamespot won't let me do so. Apparently, they just like bad grammar.

Is that supposed to be a jab at him? Cause it doesn't make much sense in comparison.

I'm the same, my family gets a tree and all but not like we think about the religious part of it, although it isn't really Christian either since they borrowed the tradition of Winter Solstice I think, so I don't know what people complain about.

If you do Christmas stuff, then you celebrate Christmas.

I'm an atheist too, but at least I'm honest about that. I don't set up a tree and hand out gifts and go singing christmas carols door-to-door and then turn around and say "oh, but I'm not actually CELEBRATING christmas, I'm just doing christmas stuff because I coincidentally like doing stuff that coincidentally happens to coincide with christmas at this time of the year."

Dude, you celebrate Christmas. Just freaking admit it. It's not gonna kill you to admit it. I admit it, and has anything bad happened to me as a result of that? Nope, absolutely not.

Yes. I celebrate Christmas because it is a tradition in my family. My parents were raised Catholic and had Christmas, but my parrents allowed me to choose my own religion and still celebrate Christmas.

Haha wow:?. All I do is have a tree and have a dinner with family cause that's tradition. If you call that celebrating christmas, sure I am, but I don't consciously think about actually "celebrating" it.

Actually, if you're Jewish and an atheist then there's still no reason not to celebrate Hannukah, as even if you ignore the 'small oil pot burns for eight days' bit, you can still celebrate how the Maccabies drove out the Greeks, or Romans (always get those two confused).

Wow are we a little cranky MrGeezer? I know the two seem the same but the difference lies in their religious connotations. To me celebrating Christmas entails the remembrance and celebration of Jesus' birth, that is entirely different then simply giving gifts and having a meal especially when we are talking about atheists and christians. Now I'm not just denying this because I'm in some way embarrassed to be associated with a Christian tradition, I just genuinely believe that there is a difference between the commercial and religious aspects of the holidays. I think that Christmas has to do with religion whereas presents has to do with consumerism. Would you agree that thais is a fair distinction to make?

I am Atheist, and I celebrate Christmas because the holiday itself has pretty much nothing to do with religion. Can you please point out Santa for me in the bible?GodLovesDead

Santa is a figure based on St. Nicolas. He was commonly known for gift giving. There's your biblical reference.

Can i ask.... Why do people think that Christmas is a "commercial holiday which has no reference to christianity?" on christmas, YOU GIVE GIFTS!!!!! companies take advantage of this.

Giving gifts is a universal idea. Christmas was Christianized by the Churches, before it used to be Yule for Pagans (or Winter Solstice. Whatever)

Sure looks like Santa to me. =\

Obviously St. Nicholas has a relation to Santa, but it's a very minor one. Christmas is just based on a pagan holiday season anyways. So it's not really your holiday either.

Im an atheist and I somewhat celebrate Christmas, becouse for one thing I wasnt born atheist. For 15 years I had no problem with religion...well thats a bit of a stretch when I was 10 I was already being thrown out of religion class (in poland there is such a thing) for asking odd questions. Also my family celebrates it, some as a religious holiday and some as just a time to give presents and meet with family. Since im not close with my extended family (ie i dont like them) and am a broke student I said somewhat celebrate.

Define atheist.

I dunno, I could be described as both Atheist and Agnostic. I don't like to label myself as one or the other. I'm definitely not religious though.

I am an Athiest. I do not celebrate any of those things and like so many others in this thread at Christmas I only do the gift giving and recieving part. In these modern times Christmas has just become more of a tradition than a religious celebration.

LOL, I'm not foolish to believe in a cult leader. Hay Bible thumpers go thump your bible to someone else.

Did you know David Koresh was really the reincarnated Jesus? Proove that he wasn't!!!!!!
