I feel that if Christianity is false, and that the Bible is a "fairy tale," then the people against it would now ignore it. Instead, and like on this board, it's usually questioned or even attacked. If it's fake, then why do you fear it? If it's already Illegitimate, then why constantly try to discredit Christians? Does the case for the Christian belief carry weight? If it does, then you admit that it's not all a bunch of hooey?

I know that people get a bad impression of some aspects of Christianity. However, if you truly understand God, then you won't let stupidity sway your perception. I've been a believer most all of my life, and I believe that logic and common sense is paramount. I'm not a "religious zealot" and I'm not "teh intolerant." I simply believe the Bible.

I have one final question. Why are you intolerant of Christianity? That's hypocritical when you accuse Christians of being intolerant.

MayorJohnny

you wont find those sort of atheists here on OT discussion forum.

go down to youtube. you'll find plenty of those down there.

Nope. But to answer your question, people are intolerant of Christianity because Christianity is intolerant of other people, and many prominent Christians work to impose their system of beliefs on everybody, which affects many people who do not believe in Christianity. This is a silly question, really. It would be like asking you why you get uptight when people push an atheist agenda in the government.pianist

Wow. Never thought I'd see the pianist generalize and stereotype an entire set of people.:o

I will say there is far too much of an anti Christitanity agenda in OT. My belief....insecurity.

There seems to be two extremes on OT, the hardcore atheists, and hardcore Christians. There seem to be few people in between :|.

No...though they are the most vocal. I have only seen a handfull of hardcore Christians here. Hardcore atheists on the other hand are quite prevalent. And when I say hardcore I mean those that are pushing their agenda.

I'm perfectly fine with people believing whatever they want to believe. Religion only bothers me when people try to convert me...or when the church across the lake in my back yard spends a million dollars to build 200 foot cross that I can see from my bedroom window

when it comes to a mass of people youll notice they usuall ywant something to hate for example

many christians became atheists... a lot of them were the bible thumpers who now want to hate christians since their conversion

the same thing can be said about racists.

Now im not christian (or racist for that matter) but I agree christians are getting the bulk of the slack.

Christians have the right to believe in what they want, but dont expect others to not want to debate about it.

I dislike religious zealot nuts. People who attend church regularly (or temple or any other holy place) I have no issues with and respect that. As long as they don't try to convince me I'm going to hell because I constantly call Jesus a zombie.

I believe in God and Christ but I don't attend church, haven't been in over 11 years. I think you can worship God in your own way and that some of these more hardcore religions were established to put a few people in a place of power. No one is closer to God than any other person.

People try to disprove the bible because when there are billions of people believing in some stupid book, something is seriously wrong. Also, just because something is false doesn't mean we can't rag on it, for example scientology :P And I'll admit that Christian belief is not a bunch of "hooey", it is in fact simply an outdated, useless and pointless fairy tale used to explain things that can now be examined with a scientific approach, revealing the truth instead of some made up stories.

I'm Catholic so I usually get an earful from both Protestants and Atheists. lol.

I'm not intolerant of other's beliefs at all. This is America, your allowed to believe, and most importantly, not believe, in anything you want to.

I think Christians get a bulk of attack because of 1) Envangelical Christianity which is very extreme, 2) Its easy and makes the person attacking them "edgy and sophisticated."

The biggest double standard in this country, is how you can say all this awful stuff about Jesus, but as soon as you say something bad about Mohammed, Buddha or any other religious figure, suddenly your considered intolerant and attacked for it.

No. I am not offended by the belief sets of any people, unless their beliefs cause them to constantly insult my beliefs. I have no problem with Christians, unless they're the sort of Christians who constantly nag me about how I'm going to hell because how I often "use the lords name in vain".

Normally, when billions of people believe something, it isn't considered stupid.

But when billions of people believe the Bible, well, they must be stupid. It can't be that you're not understanding the Bible correctly. Just that 30% of the planet's population (89% if you include all theism) is stupid.

It makes perfect sense.

I wouldn't have married my wife (even though I'm non-religious) if I was in someway offended by someone elses beliefs, I might not be religious myself but that doesn't give me the right to hold others beliefs against them (unless they are complete scums that rape, murder, cheat, steal, etc).

I think the TC is asking the wrong question. No one should have a problem with a religion that teachers tolerance, understanding and love; it's certain groups who practice the extremes of the bible.

Only when people take it to an idiotic extreme and take every word of it as true (even if its been proven impossible). And as luck would have it, those idiots are usually the prominent figures in Christianity, like Pat Robertson or Jerry Falwell.

Science can't (and doesn't) explain everything.....;)

But it explains almost everything, which is more than the bible does. Furthermore, the bible was created by humans, not God, so not only can it have human errors but using it to guide your life is frankly absurd, its like using the dictionary or a movie to guide your life (for lack of a better phrase). And also, it was created by people who had no knowledge of the natural world and were by todays standards very stupid, so trusting them is not something a shrewd person would do.

I don't trust the Bible for science....I don't trust science for faith,;)

Science doesn't explain almost everything to me...but maybe I question more than you do.

People try to disprove the bible because when there are billions of people believing in some stupid book, something is seriously wrong. Also, just because something is false doesn't mean we can't rag on it, for example scientology :P And I'll admit that Christian belief is not a bunch of "hooey", it is in fact simply an outdated, useless and pointless fairy tale used to explain things that can now be examined with a scientific approach, revealing the truth instead of some made up "hooey".

Science explains only the physical. And there is a lot more to life than just the physical.

exactly, thats why history cannot be 100% accurate, because the winning side always writes the history books. But thats off-topic.

when it comes to history, you have to make a distinction between the mundane and the supernatural. And for most of history there is plenty of archaeological evidence to compliment the accounts, but this isn't quite so true for the bible.

Man... I dunno how to say this.... But why do you want us not to believe in christianity? Also, why are you "offended" when clearly there are other religions that will ask people to kill others just so they can believe in that religion. GS has a long way to go when it comes to letting people believe whatever religion of their choice...

I can and do accept them, and most of my friends are christian. However, whenever I get the chance to argue on the internet, I let my natural selfish, intolerant and antisocial qualities take over :)

I trust "science books" because they have been scrutinized for centuries, rewritten, changed, and proven with FACTS not FAITH. Their not 100% perfect, but what is?

They can't be facts if they've been rewritten and changed.

MayorJohnny

And here is why people dislike people like you.. You some how believe that there is undeniable evidence and logic to your religion.. Where there is not, its a belief plain and simple.. No its not dissing your religion, but it does insult me that you somehow think certain Christian beliefs disprove the findings of some of our most brilliant scientists in history, with the billions pieces of evidence they found.. In things like a earth thats some 4.6 billion years old etc etc.

Being a muslim, I am offended from christianity seeing how many flaws and lies there are in the religion.
