whoa me 2.This topic is locked from further discussion.
Nerds complain about their problems. Geeks get them resolved. :P
I suppose I'm either/or or both. I game hardcore everyday after work. I still own and play nearly every console released here in the states. And that also include various versions and multiples of certain consoles. I collect comics and go to the comic shop about once a week. That also includes manga. I just started buying the Street Fighter Alpha manga series. I love Star Wars (the original trilogy) and am hoping if any other possible movies were made, Lucas would explore the Old Republic. I dress a bit like a hipster. Thrift store and boutique bought Levi's, shoes, and some vintage shirts and hoodies. Also includes pop culture related stuff. I collect vinyl, play about four different instruments. Yeah, safe to say I geek out a bit.
I think I probably fit into the Geek group more than Nerd, but anyway:
- I'm a Warhammer fan (does it get any more Nerdy?). Regularly read the books and used to collect/paint Warhammer (40K mostly) models and am rebuilding my collection thanks to the new GW store that's recently opened :D
- Been a gamer since Doom/UT/Quake and still play regularly
- Have been in several gaming clans over the years. UT99, UT2k4 and until 2008 a clan on vCod. We were a small group of about 8 gamers and although we never got professional, we were one of the top clans for a while, with our own server, website and large community of regular visitors.
- I can mime the words to most (perhaps all) episodes of the sitcom "Friends".
- I often like to explain the concepts of the Solar System, weather and forces to my 5 year old Niece.
- I have perfected the Marcus Fenix voice
- My bedroom apears immensely untidy, but everything is positioned in a place of convinience and everything is placed back exactly where it is after use - whether that be on the floor or on the door handle.
Other than that I'm a regular guy :)
I think E-stalkers are a sub-group of nerds known as dorks. :PAnd they generally live in their mom's basement until they are 40 years old and then die after a nonstop five day gaming session.
I don't care if my 'nerd credentials' are good enough for you.Deihjan
No need for hostility, this thread was meant to be fun. :D

I consider myself a political nerd. Now I'm not necessarily talking about issues, but about political moves (strategies) candidates make to try to win elections (ex. the up and coming GOP primary). It's like one big chess game.
Where to begin..
I'm studying a degree in astrophysics.
I love the original Star Wars trilogy and the Back to the Future trilogy, know them back to front.
Huge fan of PC hardware, gaming and upgrading.
Been in to video games since i was about 5, my first game was tetris and my favourite genre is RPG.
The only type of books i read are to do with the study of physics or comicbooks.
I love documentaries.
I've experienced an MMO (not sure if that counts).
My favourite band is RUSH!
I hope this will suffice. :D
I am a huge fan of anything sonic the hedgehog !!!
I play video games when ever possible
I love scifi and horror movies
I also really like star wars and anything to do with it !!!
And I have a big collection of action figures
:)
Theres most likley more but i just can't think of it right now :P
I would say being in clubs and such are not part of nerd credentials since the definition for nerd seems to describe a person who would not involve themselves in all those school activities you mentioned. GeekSquad know about as much about computers as the customer who asks for their help. However, other than those two your credentials for being a nerd are quite substantial. According to the definiton Im not a nerd even though I may have some of the qualities for being one.
I am an html xhtml designer,
I work as a senior technical colsultant
I Read all sci-fi fantasy novels
I watch any sci-fi or fantasy movies, good or bad
I play WoW
I play Xbox 360 since it came out
and too much more, I must be a nerd.....
Nah I wouldn't say I'm a nerd. Posting on here is probably the nerdiest thing I do. I am, however, a dork and possibly a sociopath. :)
I don't usually stick labels on myself, nor others for that matter. People are people.Artekus
Hipster. :P
lol @ the OP.
I'm not whoring profile info that no one cares about.
I will steal a nerd rap and call it my own:
Yo, MC Plus Plus, my rhymes are so phat,
I'm PSPACE-complete but I'll reduce you to 3-SAT.
My crew is so hard that we roll in NP,
And b***** dereference my pointer for free.
When I'm linear probing they're like, "Damn that's gigantic,"
I showed it to your mom and she used Hoare semantics.
She jumped like JNE up onto my e*****
And I picked up that h* like straight garbage collection.
("That's right, mark-and-sweep on these n***, b***.")
My lyrics get stolen by sucker MCs,
I gotta sign my rhymes with PGP;
But I keep on generatin' like a CFG
'Cause there's so much drama in the PhD.
What's wrong MC Plus Plus, am I making you nervous?
Even s**** fat h*** give you denial of service.
You'll probably go to jail before you write your dissertation
So prepare your a***** for some internal fragmentation;
P*****, as they fill it up with j***,
It's too bad you aren't closed under homomorphism.
Your problem, Plus Plus, is that your typing isn't strict:
In ML my type is real and your type is 'a dict.
I control my flow better than TCP,
I rep the west coast like Eazy-E,
You best not front if you can't pass the GRE,
'Cause there's so much drama in the PhD.
My flow is so intense that I will overflow your buffer,
Corrupt your stack pointer makin' all your data suffer.
I've got saturated edges but your flow is sparser,
Real gangstas sip on Yacc; instead you generate a parser.
While you're busy poppin' stacks I'll pop a c*** in your s***,
While you smoke your crack pipe I'm gonna pipe you to /dev/null.
I may not have a label but I rap like a star;
I'm an unsigned long int and you're an 8-bit char.
Your mom circulates like a public key,
Servicing more requests than HTTP.
She keeps all her ports open like Windows ME,
Oh, there's so much drama in the PhD.
DWORD to your moms, I came to drop bombs;
I've got more rhymes that San Jose's got dotcoms.
I rep the Farm like 50 reps Queens,
With more power than multitape Turing Machines.
Blowin' up the rap scene faster than factorial functions,
I'm dope like PNP transistors and I'll saturate your junctions.
By the time you've rhymed one line, I've already busted ten;
You rap in exponential time and I'm big-O of log(n).
I run gmake and gcc,
And I ain't never called malloc without calling free.
I'll beat your a** until it's colored like a red-black tree
'Cause there's so much drama in the PhD.
One time I pretended I had the stomach flu so that I could play vide games all evening (a Japanese RPG, at that) instead of having coital relations with my significant other of the time.
yeah let's all sit around and brag about how nerdy we aret3hrubikscubeWe could sit around and try to get the sticks out of our asses.
I like Video Games and Anime, i don't really like all that sci-fi thing like Stargate, only good old Star Wars original trilogy, so i don't realy know if i'm a nerd.
I wish I was a nerd because if I were a nerd, kind of stupid things would make me really happy. But now I have high standards.GazaAli
...that doesn't have anything to do with being a nerd...actually, it's kind of offensive :|

I think being a nerd would mean to have a certain degree of intelligence; so I do not classify myself as one.Jazz_FanWhat? I've seen you post a few times and I would certainly think you are more intelligent then a lot of users here.
That's all I really have. Maybe I'm not that big of a nerd after all.

Yeah, people shouldn't be getting hostile over something silly like this thread. I sense the anger and bitterness is strong on this forum. :o People just need to follow the hakuna matata philosophy as I do and all of that hostility will go away. :P
Or better yet, follow the wise words of the Jedi Code (the original, not the new one that Luke wrote)
There is no emotion, there is peace.
There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.
There is no passion, there is serenity.
There is no chaos, there is harmony.
There is no death, there is the Force. :D
*Love Star Wars. For a time I practically knew by heart every dialogue. For me Ep I-III are yet to be made *Member of chess club during High School. *Graduated from university without making thesis, just because of my high GPA *In Jr High I was in cooking shop. I wish I could have entered to a dress making shop :( *Have read more than once the Silmarillion and a few christmas ago read in 15 days The hobbit, The Whole LOTR saga AND Silmarillion. *Huge gamer *Hear regularly a podcast called THIS WEEK IN SCIENCE. *Anime Fan *Magic The Gathering former player (I only stopped playing because buying cards every 3 months was getting a little too expensive) *Tried to debunk our current definition of what a straight line is for a whole month (If you ask what which it is, a series of points united, all saring a SAME PENDANT). *Constantly read wiki articles -just for fun-. *Read an average of 14 books a year (not including school/work books)curono
I have to retract my statement about star wars being the peak of nerdom because I had forgotten about a certain group of people who make us look like the cool kids.... Magic the Gathering fans. :D Congrats, we have a new winner on the forum!! :P

The only reason I made that comment was because she is always saying negative and unnecessary things in threads like these. Please Log In to post.
