i dont think there is a war in history without deaths on the victors side Now there's another thing I want you to remember. I don't want to get any messages saying that "we are holding our position." We're not holding anything. Let the Hun do that. We are advancing constantly and we're not interested in holding onto anything except the enemy. We're going to hold onto him by the nose and we're going to kick him in the ass. We're going to kick the hell out of him all the time and we're going to go through him like crap through a goose!

There are different ways to look at it. A man jumping on a grenade to save his squad may not have looked at it as dying for his country but as dying to give his buddies the chance to live. That doesn't mean he is unconditionally willing to die for his country. Deploying overseas to fight in Afghanistan may not seem like fighting for your country but at the same time people who are openly against enlisting with the possibility of being sent to the Middle East may be some of the first in line to enlist if some powerful enemy army was landing the west coast and destroying everything in their path. So the question can be looked at several different ways. As for people saying if an enemy was invading they would just take their family and run, it isn't always that simple. Depending on the tactics of the invading force running may only delay eventual death but fighting may give your loved ones a chance. I would die to save my wife and daughter and if fighting an invading army while in the US military is the way to save them then so be it. Something or someone at home must be worth fighting for even if you don't care about who is in charge at the time.
I would give my life to protect my family. If it was necessary for me to go to war to defend my country then yes, I would. Would I just give my life for my country? No, I would do what I can to come back alive for my family. Family comes before everything else once you get married and have kids. If I was dead, then I'm doing the opposite of helping them.
only if it was invaded, but then I would. This is the place I call home, with the people that inhabit my life, memories and hopes. Yeah I would fight to defend it, and I would likely die. But to crawl away from what I belive in, abandon the people who raised me, and helped shape me would be so low I would not consider it viable.
If it were to go to another country in an "preemptive strike" then no. I have little to no faith in politicians, and Ive seen how incapable the chain of command can be, dying somewhere trying to ruin the life and country of a person that was likely more like me then I care to admit, is not what I consider defending at all.
I don't believe it would be possible for me to die in a way that's actually useful for my country unless the invading army takes so long to show up at my doorstep that I have time to invent BattleMechs or something.

this^ and frankly my country wouldn't really care if I died for it. Oh sure they might put up a stone slab somewhere with my name on it, but a lot of good that does for my loved ones. Hell we don't even give enough of a damn to do anything when our own citizens kill each other, why should I die for people with that mentality?
I already been lied to by the airforce and army, and failed the military test so I think I would not fight for a country that won't fight for me!

1. Don't confuse selective hearing with lying. Recruiters don't need to lie to you when Congress has ordered the military to reduce recruitment numbers due to a drawdown.2. Work on your math skills without using a calculator, read a dictionary from front to back, and check out the GED study guide. Only four parts of the ASVAB determine your AFQT and those are the two math and English subjects. The rest of the subjects only go towards your line scores.
