So. Apparently Arizona doesnt take kindly to threats. I wonder though, if for some reason, LA -couldnt- handle the power shortage, and there was a black out.. how bad would things get?

**Now with Polling Action!! .. prices may vary by state, taxes not included, colors may vary**

Hahaha. Sounds good to me. Really people are overreacting to a state trying to keep criminals out of it. Rest of the country should follow.

I know it gets boiling down there, so im sure people would suffer from heat stroke. Do you think there would be a significant raise in crime?

If they turn off California's power, Colorado should turn off Arizona's water. :P

This law is such a ****ing debacle. I don't care for the law, but the boycotts are absurd. How can a city council declare a boycott anyway?

I agree, and even if some people tthink it is messed up, LA shouldn't get involved whatsoever. They enough problems as is, something that is happening in another state shouldn't be a priority for them.

I suspect if Arizona could really just pull the plug, it would change LA's mind very quickly. Most people are always bellicose when they have no fear of serious damage and retaliation.

True. LA should concern themselves with LA. It's not like they don't have enough issues that need dealt with....

It's funny no matter how old you get or what job you have, these kinds of arguments still remind me of high schoolers having a fight or toddlers having a tantrum.

And if they did lose power, you would think.. yanno since security/alarm systems are sort of dependent on yanno.. electricity... that there would be mass looting, wouldn't there be?

Good point, well then if LA continues to put this boycott over the people in LA then they truly are idiots. LA will still have electricty, just not as much. I Arizona supplies like 1/4 of LA's total.

I can't believe that a city council would actually do something like.

It goes to show how crazy left some of our country has gotten in response to the past decade.

Arizona is fighting illegal activity; I don't see why L.A. should have a problem with this. Also...inb4 AHUGECAT and "Because L.A. is full of illegal immigrants".

Except Arizona also relies on other states going to them for functions, conventions etc and do you really think the BIG BUSINESSES in L.A are going to look over to Arizona and say. "Let's spend millions of our dollars in that state"

That is why I said could, right now it is just neighbors arguing.

Cutting power from LA before summer power splurge is an effective tactic though.

Then again Obama would just step in, and probable side with LA and their paychecks.

It would be a similar situation to the minor strike Teddy intervened in.

I don't know about that. Giving LA less electricty right before summer would make it horrible to some. No AC during that time completely sucks.

I agree.

I support the threat of shutting off energy just from the point that powerful organizations act as if they can do anything without repercussions. If power could be turned instantly,it would force people to be rational and speak honestly instead of the domineering and demagoguery that is so rampant, especially at the international level

LA imports electricity from a bunch of other places too, I think as far out as British Columbia, Canada. They'll get their power another way, although it'll cost them more.

Wow... how can both sides be so dumb... Arizona's new law is stupid and does encourage racial profiling, but boycotting them is just as (or more) stupid. Threatening to shut their electricity is not as stupid I guess because it shows how stupid the whole thing is. That is, if they're joking.

.. Yes because putting political pressure to the government of the state warrants a power outage of their competitor which may lead to deaths.. I understand why some will be annoyed, but I don't see how ANY one could defend this when this will harm many people who are just trying to get on with their lives.

It's only a money issue. LA wouldn't literally run out of power, they'd have to buy it somewhere else at higher rates.

Call their bluff, if AZ turns off the power, ROLL IN THE CALIFORNIA NATIONAL GUARD. We'll see how long this stupid law will hold then.

Don't punish the immigrants, punish the EMPLOYERS, I'll pay $3/tomato. The current cost is artificial anyhow because US citizens aren't working these jobs.
