atheism is believing that there is no god...therefore they have no fear of facing something that doesnt exist...tomorrow...next week...or judgement day...to an atheist...its like bein scared of the boogie man at night...its just silliness
They aren't. They think the Gods don't exist. I don't believe in the Christian god thus it has no sway over me.
They don't believe in God so why will they be afraid? Most Imams and Pastors pray for atheists but I don't think ordinary Christians or Muslims pray for god to forgive atheists since most of the time we are praying to God to forgive our individual sins.conistant
I don't get that, for a number of reasons. One, like I said before, it's condescending. I don't go around to my science professors and ask them to help holy men learn the errors of their ways so that they don't have to worry about heaven and hell. Two, if they believe that faith in god is the only way to heaven then why do they bother praying for people who have no faith in god? That just brings me to three, I was watching the George Carlin sketch the other day where he talks about divine will, what's the point in praying? If god's will is going to be done anyways, then why even bother? Why not just say thy will be done and be done with it?

Ignore those Christians. If they think faith alone is gonna get them to heaven, then they better think again. Faith without work is meaningless. Just like a plan without action.
No. Because it won't happen.
Believing in something because you're afraid of what might happen if you don't believe in something, is no reason to believe in something.
"I don't believe in God"
"But if you don't believe in him, you might go to hell!"
"Yikes! I'd better believe in him, then!"
Nooo.
Would you be scared of the boogeyman if you knew he didn't exist?
(sorry for that comparison, it's the first thing that came to mind lol)

However, the boogey man does not exist because he's a childhood myth, while God is real because of the bible.
Religion is comparable to childhood myths. You're introduced to them before you know better, and often by someone you trust. The difference is using hell to control the masses by fear, and the human hope for an afterlife.Aren't Christians afraid of being punished for worshipping the wrong god?

Imo it should have nothing to do with which god to worship but the ideals backing it.. To me it seems like loyalty is more important than ideals and actions.. Which stinks of control.. Its no surprise that the Church for thousands of years was one of the triforce of powers (Monarchy, aristorcacy and the church).. Through out time the Church has wielded power that could rival any kingdom.. Ironic really..
[QUOTE="Darthkaiser"]If you dont believe in sharks, why would you be afraid of them??kayoticdreamz
exactly. just because you dont believe God is real does not mean he is not real. you could be wrong and just be screwed for it when he says well ive only had about 1000 prophets warn you over the years.
personally i rather go on the side of caution.
You missed the point of both his argument and Christianity  If you consider your faith as erring on the side of caution, that's not exactly believing.

Personally I'm of the belief that Christ's teachings were hijacked and corrupted by the Romans, who saw it as a way to maintain power when they saw that their own empire was beginning to fail.

I've also had crazy hobos tell me that ghosts will murder me if I don't give them my pocket change...
[QUOTE="Brainkiller05"]I don't believe in Ghosts but they do scare me. I don't believe in God but I don't fear his judgement or anything because even if he did exist there's no way he's going to punish someone for not believing in him.Harkat95
According to some very popular depictions of God (THE BIBLE AND THE QURAN), that is exactly the sort of thing he would do.
And he's kind of a **** about it too. Unless he's mellowed out in the last 1000 years.

Then god is not just, and we are absolutely clueless of the standards the being is using.. Belief in a being does not equate to worth.

So Spider-Man is real because of the comic books.According to some very popular depictions of God (THE BIBLE AND THE QURAN), that is exactly the sort of thing he would do.[QUOTE="Harkat95"][QUOTE="Brainkiller05"]I don't believe in Ghosts but they do scare me. Bold part is theology incorrect.Doesn't matter If we use these direct implications, they would not work in human society and we would not see them as just.. Hence god isn't just by our standards and there is no telling how the being is going to judge one person from the next.. ESPECIALLY when there can be a huge difference in ideas from one sect of religion to the next. (For instance, some Christian sects believe that you are born damned or saved from the get go.. )

I never said anything about that, I only said that is theologically incorrect. And somehow you think that I said that?[QUOTE="alexside1"]Bold part is theology incorrect. Funny. 1. Being afraid of something you don't believe in makes no sense.
2. You asked if a Christian should pray for an atheist. Well at my Church we pray for atheists to convert to Christianity, but we don't pray for atheists to be accepted into heaven.
