I guess I understand, but it's still a little odd saying a prayer to god when you don't believe in a god. It kind of defeats the purpose, but again, I guess I understand.

It's traditional. I'm sure many of the things people do around the world due to tradition that they don't believe in is done specifically to honour their past.

I'm not atheist, but I feel your question is a bit ignorant for Christmas is hardly a religious holiday anymore for most. My parents have never celebrated it in a religious way whatsoever, it's more of a time for family, friends, and well...gifts. Haha.

I'm an atheist and I love Christmas! It's just a commercial holiday, so I don't think it's any big deal. I just don't praise Jesus on Christmas.
