Attempted suicide - Woman survives 23-story fall

A WOMAN threw herself from a restaurant on the 23rd-floor of a Buenos Aires hotel, only to miraculously survive when her fall was broken by a parked taxi, police and witnesses said.

Photographs showed the 30-year-old woman bent into the buckled roof of the black-and-yellow taxi before she was rushed to hospital, where she had a lung, a kidney and her spleen removed, according to officials.

Witnesses in the restaurant atop the Panamericano hotel, described how she had calmly ordered a coffee and left her purse behind before taking off her shoes to climb over a safety barrier and jumping.

"If I had not got out, she would have killed me,'' the shocked taxi driver, identified only as 39-year-old Miguel, told local media.

"I felt this explosion and I saw this woman's body sunken into the roof of my cab.

"The first thing I did was call my family. And then I just started to cry; it is really hard to see something like that.''

Wow... is this an omen? Couldn't she think of a less dramatic way to try and end her life? I'm glad she's kind of "okay", but she nearly killed someone else by being what appears to be selfish.

Pretty amazing anyway, what are your thoughts?

Of all the ways in which one could kill oneself, I don't understand why people choose jumping off of a tall building. That's gotta be one of the worst ways to go. :?

I completely agree. There are less scary, less dangerous and less OTT ways to go about killing yourself. Falling like that would be terrible :(

its definately dramatic, but I imagine the feeling of adrenaline and the air blowing through your face is like the last good feeling the person feels, and problably the only good feeling they've felt for a long, long time.

Not at all. It just takes a moment of conviction and then typically it's just a handful of seconds until an instantaneous death. Other commonly used paths require a bit more effort and carry with them generally unknown avenues of possible drawn out pain. Of course for some people that's their goal but for jumpers there's usually a sense of something awful that is inescapable.

Thats going to be a hard thing to charge her with, if she goes to trial the court will most likely find her innocent due to mental defect.. Though that is of course if it was in the United States.. The fact of the matter if your in that state to throw your self out the window, your not thinking rationally..

Physics is what kept her from dying. The collapsing of the roof of the taxi absorbed the shock of her hitting it.

It would have been more epic if she punched the car as she landed. then jumped off and sprinted robotically into the distance

I have never and will never attempt to dissuade someone from suicide.
They either want attention or really want to die. If you want to die, then die. IMO we have a right to both life and death.

But if you are going to take your own life, then don't be a selfish jackass about it...do it where it will not involve others (don't have to see it, can't be hurt, etc)

That was one HUGE mark on the taxi. She really lucked (unlucky for her I suppose) out on surviving.
