Yeah I still don't understand how General Games Discussion is so small, and both the OT and System Wars boards are so big...Something is not right, there haven't been any new regulars in the GGD for quite some while, it really killed the board.

mattykovax

Yeah, I tried posting there regularly, but nothing ever really moves there.

Legacy Platforms moves a lot quicker,I do most of my game posting there. I love GGD but it has been slow of late.

Wha? It's always slow. The ratio of posts compared to other forums is depressing.:? Nobody cares for the oldies.

Because I'm stupid enough to think that things will change. I miss the old community. The threads are basically the same, but it was the users that made me come back. Doesn't matter, I go to other communities now, but I pay visits to here once in a while.

I used to be like you, as I have mentioned, and fought very hard for the idea that it was never the ToS -- until recently. Experience is a harsh reality. It may not completely be it -- but it is most definitely a factor. Why else would people complain about it? There was very little to no complaining of the ToS back in the good ol' days. Sajedene

Why are people complaining? Because the ToS here does not cater to the anonymous approach of posting this community seems to be fond of. The ToS is catered to a community of individuals. Not people that refuse to think for themselves so they post things other people have posted. The ToS seems to be nothing more than a scapegoat for users to use after they got their hand caught in the cookie jar. The ToS hasn't changed much in terms of rules established over the years. The explanation of those rules have been detailed since a lot of users didn't quiet understand them. There was hardly any complaints with the ToS in the "Good Ol' Days" and they are largely the same.

[QUOTE="solidruss"]so you post in Off Topic all the time and never see me.... you mention System Wars, how does that tie into Off Topic?

Sajedene

All I'm saying is that we have rarely crossed paths. I barely see you around here..........

I've seen you both in OT way too many times. That should settle it. My word is my bond.

Ouch Saje. I'm only trying to help the community!! Also solid, if you do post here a lot thats cool and all that matters. As long as you still keep in touch with the users.

ToS is fine. Users just got out of hand because mods got stricter and mods got stricter because users got out of hand. And the process continues.

I doubt I would have gotten in trouble for the most recent thing I got in trouble for back in the day. And plenty of us here post as individuals and try to contribute good topics to OT. There are still some of us here. I would like to think I am one of them. I won't deny that I can be pretty controversial here. I say what I have to say and respond to any and all conversations that arise with that.

Oi... I go help a friend move and somehow I've made a monster with over 200 posts. :o Guess that means there's finally an exception to the "people don't post in mods' threads" idea. You know it's funny, even Bethany was sad when RyanTheGod got banned... she was even known to chastise people for using his name in vain. o_0 And TFG has the right idea... we only get more strict because people pushed the limits on things. The ToU hasn't really changed that much in a long while, aside from a few additions in specifics. I wonder what things would be like if there was an admin who hung out on here as much as Dave did back in the day...

Somehow I doubt that. Back then people could make posts with nothing more than ***** and lol and saying HAPPY BIRTHDAY and get away with it. I know because I used to do that back in the day. It may have been there to an extent... but not in the context that it is now. Really, at this point, its back and forth. You have your opinions. I have mine. If there is an issue with the lack of decent topics or decline of users besides yourselves -- then please, start new threads. Get back in there and show us how it is done. Don't let that mod tag stop you. And as already stated... let's not wait for others to start these threads. Start it yourself. And that is that for me. Fringe is on. I'm done here.

The Gamespot forums simply aren't big enough to support such a wide array of different boards.

I wish I lived on the east coast. v__v The only major ones around here are NebrasKon and Anime Iowa.

While we're on the dicussion of quality...
How good OT is has, for the most part, seemed to be directly related to how long the user has been posting on OT. People from 06 usually say that 06 was the best, people from 04 generally say that 04 was the best, etc. Might be due in part to just being new to the board, in which case it is fresh. To say that some users are better than others or that some topics were better than others is mostly subjective, thus not allowing us to pinpoint the time period in which OT was at its best.

I have been a Moderator since 2002. Back in the day you would have gotten modded for that unless it was posted in the hours were we had no mods roaming (back then we didn't have as many mods worldwide as we do now.). And sadly with the current state of things, Moderators are treated differently here. Many users frown at our presence and it's only threads like this that bring in discussion from the community.

I couldn't imagine that. We'd have all those "I want these pokemon DS" threads to contend with! We can't allow that. :P But in seriousness, the other forums are good, and though sometimes they lack the number of posts and the fastness that OT offers, there are still good topics in those console forums. It boils down to just good topic making and posting in all boards.

If no one sees good topics, or better yet if no one responds, then what is the point? Bigger boards = bigger discussion, and by cutting down the number of boards to three of four mods would have an easier time weeding out all of the bad topics and unfruitful discussion. I really think the pros greatly outweight the cons.

Edit: The creation of the legacy boards potentially cut out users that could have lended themselves to the GGD. Really it would just make everything easier to find, without having to move around between threads. Another good reason to combine the boards is that often times the same topic can be posted in three or more different boards, splitting relevant discussion.

You should come visit. I'd like to go to Reitaisai one year and get some cool stuff. Oh well. I do feel the same way. When I was new I was fascinated with the community and would stay up late at night in fun threads, but that's not the case anymore. I don't know about OT's growth over the years, but I'm guessing it has increased causing the ratio for user personalities to go down. That might give an illusion of less personalities. Though, not doing anything to make the community better and just complaining is just as bad. I don't have any ideas right now, but you'll prolly see me have several in the summer. Edit: deleted quote because of html error...grr

The difference is that it's true. The badge does cause many users to look and treat you differently.

Honestly, it's not always a good thing. People either suck up to you and ask "plz maek me a MOD somday plz plz il b ur bodygard!" or treat you with the disdain usually reserved for the roach crawling around next to the trash can. People who see you as a person whom the admins asked to do a few things to help them out are pretty rare.

N3MO

Which is why I'm more than a little surprised this got so long. I just made it because I wanted to, but it's become my longest RC/non-mod board thread in ages. I blame the unexpected presence of the once-and-future OT goddess. :P

The ORIGINAL OT Goddess.

I have seen it,both sides of it. I guess I have had it okay,a lot of users still seem to treat me the same, but I have aso noticed those that do not like me now and those who all of a sudden want to be my friend even though I have known them for years.

I would like to know about what OT was like a few years ago... maybe I can come up with some ideas and maybe bring a little revitalization

Naturally. Everything is a massive abuse of the e-power! Oh, and matty, don't worry about it that much. The people who are worth it won't treat you any differently.

You're leaving out users like me who see mods as rent-a-cops in a gated community, equipped with merely a whistle and a flashlight

Same threads (but less fad threads) and different users. To name a few highlights, Chev's prawn suicide, whos_next's post anime nerds in costumes, ruby_knight, shu's "the lounge", scoobypat's daily WTF's, among several others. They just did some stuff that stuck out or were really entertaining.

I'd say that's the number 1 thing that you gotta look out for as a mod. >_> "omg you locked my thread, but whyz?!"

I loved the daily WTF. And I miss Chev, and who can forget Ruby and his "obsession"

Lemme fill you in on something with N3MO. She was one of the users who made the original pitch to the admins for an off topic board when non-gaming related posts got out of hand in the old General Discussion board.
