And you thought England was a nanny-state.

wow, thats quite stupid... i mean, i could understand they ban stuff like Tokyo Gore Police (god that movie sucks) but not stuff thats also R rated like superbad, or the hangover, or (insert cool comedy movie here)8-Bitterness
And movies like Schindler's List and The Shawshank Redemption, which are movies that everyone should see at least once.

I think the Matrix was Rated R, too. Everyone has gotta see that.

lolno.
Most of the movies mentioned are rated MA15+
And it's only in South Australia, and that place isn't interesting in the slightest so no one cares.
sucks for them, thats where all the good stuff is at
IRunNewYork
That's not necessarily true..unless you're referring to nudity...which doesn't really make a movie any better to begin with...there are plenty of great Pg-13 movies as well..

I know that, but what's rated R for you guys isn't the same for us. Usually its MA15+, which is the maximum our games go to, so its the eqiuvalent to your M ratings in America and such but yours is a bit more liberal (more like a lot really).
They didnt ban it. They just can't promote or display them, which is still pretty stupid.
taj7575
yea I read that, but good grief, man, this is just idiotic.
What happened to you, australia? First, you say its wrong to kill zombies (if killing zombies is wrong, I dont want to be right), now this?
you better watch out, Australia...some country is going to mistake you for a sissy and invade you!

Note: South Australia. Victoria is still kickass.
Call it what ever you want, it is still childish.I wouldn't exactly call that banning. More like restriction or making the movies harder to get, but not completely prohibiting them.

Our game and movie ratings are the same, except we don't have an R18+ for games. Usually movies rated R in America are MA here.

I see. That's different, but kinda the way I'd do it if I ran a country.
[QUOTE="MoonMarvel"]And people think America is sensitive?cheesyjon
People think that?
Ummm...Yeah. Downright prudish.Ummm...Yeah. Downright prudish.[QUOTE="MoonMarvel"][QUOTE="cheesyjon"]

I take is prudish means over-sensitive, right?
it means kinda socially conservative, and uptight, and yea....overly sensitive
Like if I called you a "turd" and there was a prude standing next to us, the prude would go "Ewww dear God, young sirs, why didst thou callest that young man a turd! What would your mother say?"
I mean...I called you a turd. Not exactly a big deal

Is there really that big of a difference between what I said and you just did? It means excessively proper or modest in speech, conduct and dress. Just plain uptight.[QUOTE="cheesyjon"]

Thats pretty much our rep. This is only in South Australia, a small part of Australia. And it was proposed by the same guy who's stopping the whole nation from getting a R18 classification for video games. His family friendly policies are horrible :/
Oh and TC, that's a VERY misleading topic title...
ive seen a twelve year old buy R rated games at best buy....Australia seems to be a pretty strict place to live, can't imagine what thats really like considering that Canada is pretty lenient when it comes to ratings. For example Harold and Kumar 2 was rated 14A only despite the nudity and all that.
EVOLV3
That's unfortunate. Australia was #2 on my list of places to move to if I decided to move from the U.S. But, the censorship mentality which I have seen from the place as of late makes me want to avoid it now. :(
