With the success of The Dark Knight, I am quite surprised that Christopher Nolan(the director of the re-boot Batman franchise), hasn't committed to a sequel to The Dark Knight. For one I can agree with his state of the franchise-- because The Dark Knight was an undeniable success, and perhaps one of the best movies I've watched. But looking at the first two-- the quality in both titles, I realize that Nolan may have a hard time topping both movies.

But my question is to Batman fans, if Nolan decides to make the third installment should it be the final of the franchise, and if so what would you like to see in the third installment? I am unsure how Nolan would make Batman work in the third movie, or what type of character he would become because at the end he had Commisioner Gordon call in the cops. And what villians would play a role in the movie.

Personally I hope Nolan decides to come back along with the cast for the third movie. No one could finish his vision except himself, and he commited to the franchise by making the two movies. I think it would be proper if Nolan came back for the third movie. I would also like to see the conclusion to the franchise, as they are often ruined with too many sequels. I wouldn't expect the third movie to be as good as The Dark Knight, but I would be satisifed with a great movie that ends the series.

I think the ending to TDK was good enough to just leave it at that

I highly doubt Nolan will make a 3rd one.

He was hesitant to even make the Dark Knight so I don't get your hopes up.

I haven't heard anything about Batman 3, he has been hesitant about the third installment. So no WB hasn't announced a sequel yet.

Dark Knight was an amazing movie, but after watching it for like the 5th time, you start to notice GLARING mistakes. Why didn't they blame the cop deaths on The Joker? >__> I would love to see another Nolan film because I like how he take a more realistic, believable approach to the world of Batman. I'd like to see Nolan somehow to Killer Croc, with a skin disorder or something:D

No, nothing is official. Nolan has already says he has no plan on a third yet, he will wait until he has a good story. He says he knows how hard it is to make a good third film, and doesnt wish to rush it or make one that will fall short. The studio is talking about a third. Rumor has it they want Johnny Depp to play Riddler and Phillip Seymor Hoffman to play the Penguin. But nothing is official. Recently a lot of news has come out saying that the studio wants Rachel Wiesz to play Catwomen, which I think is a great idea. Ever since talk of a third and a possible Catwomen has come out, I have said I wanted Rachel Weisz, and to hear news/rumors that she might play Catwomen is a possible third is great news. Im not sure if I would like a third, I like how the second ended. Im glad Nolan isnt rushing things, he is a great director, and to hear him say he will not move on to a third unless he is confident in a good story/script just proves this. I trust what ever he does.

Personally I don't want this franchise to get out of control, and I'd like it if they stopped.

That being said, I heard a rumor that Johnny Depp would be the riddler, and to be honest, I think he could really pull it off. Johnny Depp really commits himself to his movies. A lot like Heath Ledger did.

I'm pretty sure Nolan's said that if the studio wants Catwoman then he will step down. He doesn't like the character or something

If he does make a third I hope he doesn't plan on having too many villians, because it could ultimately ruin it.

I havent heard this, all I have hear is that bale doesnt want a Robin. I have heard Nolan say he would rather not have Catwomen/Riddler or any well known villians that have been done before, rather he would like to tap into some other villians we havent seen yet. Me Id like to see Sam Rockwell as the Riddler (Depp would be great, but people would love him and not his character), and Rachel Weisz as Catwomen.

I don't want there to be a third movie, but if there has to be one, I want Nolan directing it and I want it involving Rupert Thorne running against Hamilton Hill for Gotham mayor and for his campaign, he challenges Hill's insistence to cease attempts at capturing Batman and hires Hugo Strange to discover Batman's secret. Coleman Reese is reintroduced and Hugo Strange interrogates him to find Batman's identity. Reese lies to Strange that Batman actually is Harvey Dent and that the police want the public to think he's dead to further employ Batman against criminals. Strange sets out to find the location of Harvey Dent and finds out that he's alive and being held at a secret hideout near Blackgate Penitentiary. Deadshot is hired to capture Harvey Dent, but Dent escapes and continues his personal vendetta against Gotham. Deadshot tries to assassinate Two-Face, but Batman intervenes and stops Deadshot and Two-Face, and brings charges against Thorne and blackmails Strange to remain silent about his secret.

They blamed it on Batman because Joker said that the killings wouldn't stop until Batman turned himself in. Anyway in a way I do want them to make a third one, but then again I don't want them to ruin the franchise.

Heh, I have a feeling that the third batman will flop, because everyone will be expecting so much after Ledger's "brilliant" performance. The irony, of course, is that Ledger was completely over-hyped and, in reality, wasn't actually that good.

I'd love to see Johnny Depp play the Riddler. He has many characteristics as Heath Ledger-- in other words Depp takes his roles very seriously. I think he would make a great Riddler.

The other day I read a Yahoo article saying that there was rumors that Rachel Dawes would return from the dead and become Catwoman. Maggie Gyllenhaal and Aaron Eckhart both signed on for 2 movies, so Two-Face might come back as well.

lol the funny thing about that statement is its your opinion....and according to nation wide critics and hundreds of thousands of people not only was it one of the best films of the year, but Ledger was brilliant....so judging by how much so many others loved The Dark Knight...it would defiantly not flop, probably make more then this one did.

That sounds horrible. I know Two-Face's death was intentionally ambiguous, but there was no question regarding Rachel's death.

I'm not a fan of the idea either, but that is the rumor. I do want Two-Face to come back though. His end was quite unsatisfactory to me.

I don't think Nolan was planning on another movie. And the ending of TDK does make a good close to the series. Knowing Christopher Nolan, he will only make another if he thinks he's got something good. He actually wasn't planing on making TDK (despite the hint at the end of Batman Begins). But then he had a great idea for a script and look what happened. So if Nolan does make another Batman film, I will be excited. But I don't think he needs too.

Aaron Eckhart already came out in interviews and said he only signed on for one film, and that Nolan told him his character is dead, so dont expect him back. I heard nothing about Maggie being signed on for 2, and there have been small rumors of her being Catwomen, but most attention has been on Angelina Jolie, and even more so now Rachel Weisz as Catwomen, so i think people have just thrown Maggies name into the bunch. I wouldnt expect either of them back.

There is going to be another Batman, I mean it made millions and was a hit. Honestly, I like the dark tone there making, killing off characters, and great acting. I don't want a humbo jumbo mess like in the Dark Knight. But i'll see it regardless. It's Batman, he's a boss.

Yes, it is my opinion, and I am entitled to it. And, it is the opinions of those people whom you mention that "not only was it one of the best films of the year, but Ledger was brilliant."

Also, please read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argumentum_ad_populum.

The conclusion: just because a lot of people support your opinion does not make it true. I will, therefore, kindly ask you to, in the future, refrain from issuing such statements, for they are irrelevant.

Oh, and, by the way, your statement is also an overgeneralization: for the record, not all of the critics were as enamored with The Dark Knight as you seem to imply.

This. Definitely agree. They won't top TDK - they just won't. Its the second highest grossing film ever. And people love it. So many threads were tied up in TDK as well.

...well as far as critics go it has a 94% on rottentomatoe, with only 14 of about 250 critics who viewed it not liking the film,l so yes most critics liked the film, which has nothing to do with how good it was, but Im just letting yeah know...also, I didnt use other people opinions to make mine appear correct, maybe you should reread what I wrote. I actually used it to show that it will not flop. 300,000 people rated it the 4 best film ever made on IMDB,it has already become the second highest grossing film behind Titanic. To think it will flop, is ridiulous. Even if Ledgers amazing performance isnt matched, it will not stop people from liking it.

If the have a third It would be cool to see like the Mad Hatter, or VentriloquistLief_Ericson
Anyone who hadn't read the comics would say "who the you-know-what are they" and also mad Hatter might be compared to the Joker.

[QUOTE="SaintLeonidas"] lol the funny thing about that statement is its your opinion....and according to nation wide critics and hundreds of thousands of people not only was it one of the best films of the year, but Ledger was brilliant....so judging by how much so many others loved The Dark Knight...it would defiantly not flop, probably make more then this one did.SaintLeonidas

Oh, and, by the way, your statement is also an overgeneralization: for the record, not all of the critics were as enamored with The Dark Knight as you seem to imply.

...well as far as critics go it has a 94% on rottentomatoe, with only 14 of about 250 critics who viewed it not liking the film,l so yes most critics liked the film, which has nothing to do with how good it was, but Im just letting yeah know...also, I didnt use other people opinions to make mine appear correct, maybe you should reread what I wrote.

To think it will flop is not ridiculous, it is a valid opinion. Just because a movie does well, does not necessarily mean it's sequel will.

As for your argument about the critics, it is bogus: the reaction of the critics is irrelevant to how well a film's sequel will do; what is relevant is how much people want to see it, and how much people think it will be good.

Oh, and I never said that most critics didn't like it-I merely said that not all critics did. I happen to agree with those 14/250 critics who, quite frankly, didn't think it was such a great movie. And, quite frankly, I couldn't care less if none of those critics agreed with me.

Thanks mate! Hows Clint going?

He's 78, and still making great movies :P. Kudos to Eastwood for a spectacular career.

based on the reaction from The Dark Knight, from critics and viewers, imo, to think it will flop, in a logical sense is ridiculous. if you know anything about how well films do, just by looking at most trilogies, the third usually takes in the most money e.g Shrek 3, Spiderman 3. All this one would have to do is come close to how much The Dark Knight made, and it wouldnt be a flop. Personal opinions aside, taking in the factors that determine how well a film will do, and compared to other films that have had such success, the odds of the third flopping is almost impossible. Even if the film was bad, it still would take in enough to not be considered a flop.

Personally, I don't think Nolan will be able to top TDK. I think the should end the series now without a third movie.

You guys don't know what your talking about! If you even bothered to look up some info you'd find that Nolan is entitled to a trilogy and the title is "Gotham City". Also, scenes were left off the DVD purposely in respect of Heath Ledger. Nolan obviously has some extra footage left over in the stock room, so I believe that he will be using them to clear up the vague ending of TDK. This will show what happened after the joker's last scene in the movie. The Riddler is not going to be Eddie Murphy, Shia Labeouf is not going to be Robin, and there willdefinitelybe NO Cat Woman! Just search around the net and you'll be surprised how much info and spoilers you can find on upcoming films!

Heh, I have a feeling that the third batman will flop, because everyone will be expecting so much after Ledger's "brilliant" performance. The irony, of course, is that Ledger was completely over-hyped and, in reality, wasn't actually that good.chessmaster1989
I think he only appeared to be so good because all the other actors had no... character, in that all the other characters were just so generic. The Joker was the only person with any personality.

I'd love to see Johnny Depp play the Riddler. He has many characteristics as Heath Ledger-- in other words Depp takes his roles very seriously. I think he would make a great Riddler.vibrantdesign

imo Heath Ledger is one of the best actors i have ever seen

Where did you get that? Nolan might not even make a third movie if he doesn't think he can make it worthwhile. There's definitely no confirmed title.

You have no idea what your talking about, your just some person who jumped on TDK bandwagon and it shows....

Nolan signed for a 3 part trilogy (which is true) but after TDK, he said that he is going to take a long break from the movie. Speculation has said that it might be released in 2012, which is 3 years from now (and a very long ways) No one has even been signed to write it so you can expect to not hear from the movie until a very very long time.

*shrugs* the only two roles I've seen him in are The Dark Knight and Brokeback Mountain, and I did not think he was anything special in either of them (Brokeback Mountain was a fantastic movie, but not because of Ledger).
