I listened to Wintersun a few times and I found them kind of boring for me. That's why I don't know the band members.

Robin FinckIs he the best on a technical level? No.

But he is ****ing cool.

Samwel_X
Robin Finch is awesome, yeah his technical skills are not the best but he makes it sound good. But I will say this if you want a really good guitarist look up Robert Johnson. The man sounds like three guitars are playing

I see a pattern in that only rock and metal guitarists are being mentioned. You people do realize they're not even some of the best guitarists out there.

VERY convincing argument, especially the lack of examples...

he's right, except for the top niche rock / metal guitar players.. the average classical / jazz guitar player blows the average rock guitar player outa the water. cuz most rock and roll isn't technical . but when you talk about the top league rock/ metal guitar players.. its a different story. andres segovia is like.. the grandfather of classical guitar.. he pretty much made classical guitar a legit classical instrument back in the day. listen to him on youtube, he's insane.

i agree, lemme also put out there the yngwie malmsteen ( ENG-VAI), is pretty suck as well, he's extremely technical, one of the fastest players and keeps accuracy, but his music has an utter lack of soul. his only good stuff are his covers of bach / betoven ( the ****cal stuff), but his own neo ****cal stuff all sounds the same, his skill is impressive but his songs are a bore.

Niiice choice. He's from Quebec, just like me :D

Some of my favorites are Dave Mustaine, Devin Townsend, Adrian Smith, Tony Iommi, Jason Becker and Karl Sanders. My absolute favorite would have to be Jeff Loomis though. As for a #1 guitarist of all time, good luck with that.

Not the BEST players ever, but the guys that have my favourite SOUND are John Mayer Eric Johnson Tommy Emmanuel Then there's guys like Jeff Buckley and Scott Matthews (who I REALLY HOPE some of you have heard of) who aren't extremely techincal but just play beautifully. I just checked out that guy Eric Roche as someone mentioned in an early post here, and he is preeeetty awesome. He has the style I try to get with my playing, with making different, fuller variations of the original chords of the song, while also playing the melody over them. Great.
