My favorite guitarist of all time has to be a tie between Stevie Ray Vaughn and Duane Allman. Those fools can shred it like no other. Duane Allman has such an amazing sound while SRV puts his soul into every performance and the result: guitar solos that blow my mind away completely.

Who is your favorite guitarist and who do you think is the best?

(don't just blindly say Jimi Hendrix if you've never even heard his music. bandwagoning doesn't make you cool)

Now i realised the poll might not have all the choices you think would be best, but i had to choose 5 of the many i would put up there. If you have a different "best", post it.

Also post your own "Top 5"

Out of your list it's Slash. I think you might want to put Eric Clapton or atleast Van Halen in there.

Stevie Ray Vaughan carried both skill and emotion onto stage with him, what very few musicians do at all. George Thorogood is another good Rock/Blues guitarist.

i initially put Tom Morello up there but that was cause i forgot to put SRV in. Plus, he is great, but not innecessarily in the top 5 IMO. Love RATM tho, and am still listening to their tracks today along with One Day as a Lion (great e p they put out)

Out of those choices, I'd say my favorite is Jimmy Page, though I doubt he'd be worthy to be called the best.

Hmm guitarists that I really know of that come to mind are Paul Masvidal, Chuck Shuldiner, Luc Lemay, John Petrucci, and Jari Maenpaa. So I suppose that's my top 5.

Stefan Koglek

He's my absolute favorite, and I have yet to hear anyone who plays like he does.

I can agree with Paul Masvidal and Duane Allman as well

Yea it is def the cool thing to hate creed.

Slash is overrated, but jimmy page is even more overrated than him. Vai, satriani, malmsteen are all above them imo.

I hate Jimmy Page by MCR is one of my favorite songs purely for the subject matter.

When I say Slash is overrated, I say it because he get's all this praise even though, imo, he hasn't done any outstanding work since leaving GN'R in 1996. The solos he does now, simply don't sound technical anymore to me imo. But, hey to each his own. :)

I also agree that slash is very overrated and so is that band but to each his own.
Personaly, i like guitarist that do more then just play guitar well, i like the guitarist that do something completely different and creative. Their are thousands of great guitarist out their and ones who have passed away, the question is what have they done that hasnt been done before. Out of your list i would say Jimi Hendrix with out a doubt but imo the best guitariest would have to be Paul Katner from Jefferson Airplane. If we are talking about more recent times, then i would say Billy Corgan but over all Paul takes it for me.

Thats a tough question. Jimi was an amazing guitarist but Slash is my favorite. All of his songs with GNR were amazing and Velvet Revolver is not bad. Slither is one of my favorite songs and it has a great solo.

Where is Eddie Van Halen On Your List?

I laugh at this poll for not including true greats like Frank Zappa, Randy Rhoads, Jeff Beck, Steve Vai and numerous others, and instead including hacks like Slash and Vaughhan..but still, you did your best and represented both Jimi's so I smile upon that :).

I hope so too. That made me die a little inside. :(

I'd sincerely hope everyone knows by now that even if Dragonforce could even play the stuff they put on their albums (which they cannot), it's still not that impressive.

Out of that list I'll say Page.
