Speaking of great 90s bands, who else loves the bands Spiritualized, and the Spacemen 3?Film-Guy
I've never been into spiritualized much. I saw them this summer at pitchfork fest, but I was a lot more interested in free beer with killer dudes at the time.

Your making me think post-rock-screamo xDtri-edge99

No screaming. More dreamy (like cousin_eddy explained) and subdued. The fuzzy guitiar really is at the forefront usually, not the vocals.

Awesome band dude. "Ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space" is pure godsend.

[QUOTE="tri-edge99"][QUOTE="Film-Guy"]Shoegaze fans should check out the band Blackstrap, they are a shoegaze band from Sweden.cousin_eddy

Just what is shoegaze? It sounds like drone or something :P

It is a form of alternative music made most famous in the 80's by european groups. It's best elements are dreamy guitar riffs, a lot of effects pedals, lyrics involving relationships and depression and vocals you can't really understand the lyrics too. Chck out My Bloody Valentine, Cocteau Twins and Starflyer 59 for great examples of Shoegaze.

Your making me think post-rock-screamo xD

Shoegaze is tons better then Post-rock. Post-rock is good and all but Shoegaze has a charm it can't ever really match. Trust me dude, you'd like it. Hit me up on MSN sometimes, I'll give you some samples :P.

Post-rock has technically been around since the late 70's when Post-punk started. Great post rock bands that are aroudn now are Mogwai, Explosions In The Sky and GodSpeed You! Black Emperor, but Tri-edge is the real expert in the genre

Post rock was mid 90's if I remember right. Post Rock is really weird. "Don Caballero" and "Godspeed You! Black Emperor" are considored Post Rock but are horribly different from eachother. Youtube 'em so I can give you proper recommendations. :D

It's all about Progressive Metal. Queensryche, Savatage, Porcupine Tree, and to a lesser extent Dream Theater, were amazing.

Black Metal in Norway.tzar3
Definitly, there's been more metal bands in Norway now then ever before.

There's even a saying among them that states " Norway knows how to make good metal, it's not without reason our country is shaped like a Electric guitar"

Flim Guy your Topics are always great.

Anyway, ill say old schoool hip-hop and rap were the golden years but underground has carried the torch from then to today.

House and Techno for me. The immortal Daft Punk

Also the funk of Jamirioquai.

For me it was the time of IDM. Artists like Aphex Twin, Autechre and Squarepusher defined the genre in the 90's with some amazing releases and Warp Records was unmatched in quality.

And imo dance topped in that period as well. Artists like Orbital, Future Sound of London and Underworld are still my favorites.

Ska's third wave movement really gathered steam in the 90s.

Shame I only caught up with it a few years ago and am still doing so now.

During the 90s, I enjoyed the rise of christian rock (Jars of clay, DC-Talk, Creed to some extent), but I was hardcore christian then, and had no exposure to secular music. I remember my music teacher handing out worksheets in 8th grade that basically said if we listened to nirvana we would kill ourselves like cobaine so I was terrified of them.... Those bands saved my life from the terrible Christian music at the time and led me to the larger arena of music.

Those bands saved my life from the terrible Christian music at the time and led me to the larger arena of music. superheromonkey

I was never into Christian music, Creed irritates me for some reason.

Well, nowadays, I think Christians have some formidable bands, thanks to the early ninety artists) in the form of As I Lay Dying, Underoath, Norma Jean, the showdown, tourniquet (though they are old as dirt), Demon Hunter, etc...and others

P.S. I was always annoyed with the fact that everyone hated creed, but I am comfortable enough to say I was and still am a fan of them and alter bridge now. (Tremonti solos are awesome)

I thought shoegaze started in the 80s?

Although the best shoegaze album was released in '91 (Loveless by MBV)

Yes Shoegaze did start in the 80's but it didn't become brilliant until the 90's :).

[QUOTE="Lord__Darkstorn"]It's all about Progressive Metal. Queensryche, Savatage, Porcupine Tree, and to a lesser extent Dream Theater, were amazing.Film-Guy

Porcupine tree wasnt really progressive metal until In Absentia came out, I guess Signify counts.

I consider Signify to be prog metal. Oh, can't forget Tool!

If you like tool then you might like the band Helmet.

Since everyone is talking about Prog Metal again, don't forget about Opeth :D.

And Messugah:P

and Green Carnation! (srsly check out)

They did that incredible album Light of day, day of darkness. Just one track that lasts a whole hour, ridiculous and over the top sure but its still great.

Thats why their so awesome. You dont get the whole experience if you only listen to the first 6 minutes :P And it really ticks me off how the gave it 3 stars on allmusic
