I would want Guillermo Del Toro because he makes nice visuals and colors so I think it would fit.

Namgis

I'm with you. The Golden Army had a style I would want the new SW to emulate.

-

I would also enjoy seeing David Yates get a shot. As long as they get someone who loves the franchise and wants to do well by it. Not someone taking the money and doing a half assed job.

I would like to see what types of creatures and designs GdT could make in the star wars universe. Also love his ability to make things dark but still keep characters colorful and lively and not dragged down by grittyness.

And as for Yates, he did a nice job on the final Harry Potters, so I could see him coming up with some nice final duels.

I say James Cameron, Joss Whedon, and Peter Jackson each do a piece of the trilogy.lamprey263

James Cameron - It will focus on the galaxy with blue jar jars. It will make the most money

Joss Whedon - All the Jedi and Siths must join forces for a new evil, an alien race from a universe far far away...

Peter Jackson - Luke must destroy the one lightsaber that ruled them all.

Probably Peter Jackson. He's really the only plausible director that Disney will hire who is capable of making the movie correctly. Anyone who could do better ( there are some ) has absolutely no shot at getting the job since they wouldnt want to make the type of movie Disney will want.

Guillermo Del Toro

Empire was the best Star Wars by far and a big part of it was the perfect atmosphere. And this guy is one of the only ones in Hollywood who try to make awesome believable scenary for a new age star wars instead of just generic cgi and green screens everywhere. He uses CG but he knows when to use it and when not to.

muller39

Given his work for the sci-fi genre he seems like the kind of guy who could do Star Wars some well deserved justice.

This is why I think Duncan Jones has potential. Moon was a great film.

I would second Duncan Jones. The work he did on Moon was brilliant, and Source Code shows that he can do a film with a larger budget. My biggest concern is who they're going to get to play Han Solo if they decide to continue the Skywalker storyline.

While Joss Whedon is the only one of those three I'd agree with, I do agree that they should all be different. That had to have contributed to the original trilogy being so good. It wasn't being controlled in all aspects by the same guy. We all saw how well that worked out in the prequels. Granted, that was George Lucas, and damn near anyone would do a better job, these days. But still, the complete control wasn't a good thing, and wouldn't be good, no matter who was in charge.

Serraph105

I'd endorse him, but I haven't seen Firefly.

Nathan Fillion's Malcolm Reynolds is essentially a tougher (non-pussified) version of Han Solo. I would kill to see Whedon work on at least the script (directing and casting comes second to good writing--but giving Joss total creative control is the way to go).

In terms of tone, he's not one dimensional (as evidenced by his TV work) but he has a very prominent style that works to his advantage. You know what you're getting with Whedon at the helm. Considering the success of The Avengers (it sticks to his formula and works extremely well), Whedon might be the perfect candidate and execs should strongly be considering him. Star Wars is more fantasy than sci-fi, and the focus has always been on characters (and I guess special effects). Whedon's work is all about character study. At the worst, characters might have wittier rapport-- at best, he'll bring some much deserved complexity to the SW universe which has been pretty damn muddled up to this point. The extended universe is a mix of spectacle and character development, but everyone has too many different interpretations of the universe to bring a definitive version to life.

Regarding other popular choices-- James Cameron, no. He makes fun action movies, but his direction is unremarkable and exceptionally bland. It'll be Star Wars without soul. Peter Jackson would be interesting, but his original efforts (after LoTR) have been underwhelming imo. He's proven himself with adaptation, but his style isn't that much better or noticeable than the next guy's. I wouldn't call him an auteur, personally. Neill Blomkamp and Duncan Jones have made awesome films, but we haven't seen them do fantasy. Their styles of gritty or sci-fi thriller, respectively, would be an interesting take on SW, but I'm not convinced it's the right one.

Honestly, I'd really like to see what Whedon could do with it. His ability to blend comedy with action while maintaining appropriate character development is really what these movies need. It's what marks the original trilogy, and what was desperately attempted to be recreated in the prequels.

Everything this guy said, Whedon has proven himself to have an excellent grasp at wit and grandeur. And if Serenity is anyhitng to go by he knows what Star Wars should be like in the modern era...space wizards and all.

totally truth. I hadn't even really thought about it like that, but yes. That's one of the biggest things that made the originals such good movies. and one of the worst places where the prequels fell flat. the more I'm thinking about this, the more I'm thinking Joss Wheden is the absolute best choice for the job. Shame it's not very likely.

Agree with everything you said. I hope once this 'saga' is over, we can see more diverse visions. I am getting worried with each new piece of news though. First Lucas started out as a 'creative consultant' now it's sounding like 'executive producer'. Which means he would have a major voice when it comes to the films. If he doesn't like it, most likely, it's out. If that's the case, then it's status quo for SW.

Why is that? Because Disney marketed the movie poorly and wasted a good amount of money and made no money? Or do you think it's a bad movie?

Hmm, well James Cameron, Ridley Scott and Peter Jackson are all currently quite busy with other project so can't pick those.

Danny Boyle might work. I really like his movies and he proved he could do Sci-Fi with Sunshine.

Christopher Nolan... as much as I love his work he needs to cut back on his focus on "realism" a bit if he is going to work on Star Wars.

As for Joss Whedon the tone of the work the work I've seen from him have been too light hearted, cheesy and comical in tone to properly fit Star Wars I think but he can gladly prove me wrong and show that he can make something more dark and serious.

Sam Mendes, Neil Blomkamp, or Duncan Jones. I'd be happy with any three.

muller39

I wouldn't object to any of those either.
