So, I guess we are now going backwards in time and pretend that MLK Jr. doesn't exist now?

At UCLA, the Afrikan Student Union is insisting upon an “Afrikan Diaspora floor” as well as an “Afro-house.”

“Black students lack spaces where they feel safe and comfortable,” the UCLA demands state. “The Afrikan Diaspora floor is a way for us to connect more to other Black students, the Afrikan Student Union, and the Afro-Am department. The floor should be branded as a safe space for all Black students.”

As for the “creation and support of a UCLA Afro-house,” the demands state “many Black students cannot afford to live in Westwood with the high prices of rent. An Afro-house would provide a cheaper alternative housing solution for Black students, that would also serve as a safe space for Black Bruins to congregate and learn from each other.”

I'm surprised that people haven't learned by now that segregation doesn't really work unless you're got the upper hand.

Like, if whites are the majority of the population and they hold all of the power, then they can segregate themselves from a minority and they're denying that minority from having access to the institutionalized benefits of being white.

But if whites are the majority of the population and hold all of the power, then a MINORITY culture segregating themselves from whites is just shooting themselves in the foot. It's stupid. Now they're becoming less capable of integrating into white society, which diminishes their ability to reap the institutionalized benefits of "white society".

It's really a dumb-as-bricks attitude to take. It's the equivalent of some black kid intentionally doing poorly in school because he's trying to segregate himself from white society, and then being shocked when he can't get a decent job because he acts like someone who has segregated himself from society. If the narrative that we're going with here is that blacks are still being oppressed, then no, you don't ****ing segregate yourself from non-blacks. You integrate into society until you get the means to cause change, then you use that power for good. But you're never gonna get the means to cause change if you're portraying YOURSELF as someone who can't properly integrate. For ****'s sake, why don't I just keep my kids from being able to read in order to provide them a "safe space" from the white man's written poison?

Segregation doesn't work. This is not the way forward.

It's pretty funny how black people get upset at the past because of what whites did and now they want the same. Of course it's a small percentage of the black community, but still. White's have the KKK, and blacks have BLM. I really don't see why race fucking matters so much to people, but shit this is the world we live in. It's quite sad really.

But they have the freedom of speech and can say what they will. Racism goes both ways and is bad in both cases but is allowed as long as we are talking about words and not actions.

Sad thing is, I've actually known people with that kind of attitude. On at least two occasions, I've known an acquaintance who was selling drugs and committing petty robberies, and they stated that it's better than getting an actual job because they'll be damned if they're gonna end up working for The Man.

Of course, in the cases that I knew of, the person sure as hell wasn't "educated."
