:| No it was not.. When he entered office he literally did nothing when it came to legislation.. When 9/11 occured the flurry of legislation occured.. INFACT the only major legislation he passed was on tax cuts, THAT was it.

sSubZerOo

He passed the prescription coverage for Medicare part D.

Which was mainly to block medication from Canada which would have lowered the costs of it.. The point being the republicans never did a major overhaul of anything when it came to healthcare, and what they tried to do that did not scueed recieved public outrage and was swept under the carpet quickly.

I'd really need to see some evidence that it was "mainly to block medication from Canada" before I would believe anything like that. Prescription coverage was a big issue in the 2000 election. Both candidates promised it, and not surprisingly Bush provided it.

Who cares anymore? People need to stop having faith in this country. It's done withistuffedsunny
That's the way more and more people are feeling across the world, not just USA.
With everyone getting the hang of free internet and with the globalisation and dirty political tricks becoming public knowledge it is becoming more apparent how they won't listen to You at all but have their own agenda's.

Good. Maybe they'll scrap that piece of garbage and actually take some time and come up with a well thought out bill. They'll get more votes if they put more effort and thought into it. Most people want health reform, they just didnt want a rushed garbage bill.

sonicare
I'm not too sure about that, seeing as on both sides misinformation has been thrown around that the bill said nothing of.. In the words of K, a person is rationale and calm.. People are dangerous, stupid and panicky.. This past decade of the fear of terrorism is proof of this.. 9/11 was a horrible act, but a mere 3000 people are nothing compared to the gun deaths, car accidents, and other such things in the country.. You have a greater chance of getting killed in a car accident or struck by lightening then being killed by a terrorist as it stands.. Yet if a terrorist brought down a plane of a dozen people, every one would be freaking out and saying how we need more security when the murder rate is far higher statistically..

Trouble is the dems have massively dropped the ball on healthcare. They can sit and point fingers at the republicans, but they have the white house and huge majorities in both the senate and the house. Problem is they did not create a well crafted bill. Instead Obama let congress take the reigns and they crafted 2 separate gargantuan bills. It seems like all the bills are going to do is rack up costs and yet still not provide the true universal access to healthcare that was so promised. I say scrap it. Take your time and make a better bill. Consult with doctors and other health care professionals - they probably know a little more about the system than most politicians. Then if the republicans try and torch that, they look bad. But right now, the public is on their side, since no one really wants to get behind this nebulous bill.

Doing it later will not fly with the Dems. They have so foolishly emphazied getting it done now, that they cannot afford to scrap it. If the Bills are abandoned, it will be seen as a defeat by the Republicans, MSM(Main Stream Media) and the rest of the world. In turn, they will not go back to it and the Obama Administration will be all but finished. I agree with you that it needs to have a SEVERE makeover, but it won't.

Hrmm... I'm curious how exactly this is Obama failing? I mean, I think he could be doing a better job of getting House Dems to support the bill, but I think you're going a little far there...

Historically speaking, health care reform has been something that is practically a century in the making, so even getting this close is actually pretty remarkable.

Not that I'd be terribly happy with "close but no cigar", but I'm just sayin'.

[QUOTE="fidosim"][QUOTE="sSubZerOo"]They are a minority and based on that shouldn't the bill been squelched long ago..?sSubZerOo
It should have, but the Democrats have been intend on passing the bill through backroom deals and media manipulation.

Your hypocrisy makes me laugh.. I would have loved to see your support years back with the whole war on terror propaganda going left and right.. Furthermore media has criticized the bill more then anything, please take off your tin foiled hat.

Not to mention that if they're manipulating the media, they're doing a terrible job, considering how misinformed the public is about it...

This is easily one of the worst aspects of democracy, really.

In addition for a chance of the people electing an idiot. Democracy, like all forms of government is a double edged sword.

Well they both more or less stem from the same problem: the general public generally doesn't know much of anything about the complex issues (i.e., any issue where it's not just complete opinion over what's good and what's bad), and yet they vote based on what they think they know about them anyway. Garbage in, garbage out, as the saying goes.

And then anyone who actually identifies this fact is consequently called an elitist. :P

Its really easy to just not vote if you haven't educated yourself to the point where your vote is an educated one. People get so lost in the "Its my right to vote" BS that they just do it because they feel some form of moral or ethical obligation to fulfill a civic duty.

And the media doesnt help. All they seem to be worried about is quanity of turnout and not "quality" of turnout. You never see ads that would incline people to learn about issues or instruct them on how to do so. They just tell you to vote and remind you that its your job to get your's cast regardless of how flagrantly misplaced it might be.

In reality, if you dont know what you are voting for its less detrimental to not vote at all. Its not your civic obligation to vote, its your civic obligation to vote CORRECTLY.

People are by and large a lazy breed and will just vote for whoever is the same color or whoever has the same party affiliation with little or no investigation involved.

[QUOTE="Wasdie"][QUOTE="EMOEVOLUTION"]It doesn't seem to me like our government is actually working how it's intended too when they have to "rush" bills through congress because a person of the opposite party just got elected.batman_is_aweso

That is pretty bad. Our government is supposed to take years on large bills in order for all political sides to agree on the changes. Not where one just throws it through as quick as possible.

yea they should take longer

i think we should wait for our 14 trillion+ debt lower down before we should talk about health care

just adding more to that 14 trill is nuts

If you know anything about econ then you would realize that the debt is nothing more than smoke and mirrors designed to scare the general public. Its like you find $1000 on the floor somewhere put it in a bank then spend $500 on fixing your car then write an IOU for $500 to yourself then toss it in a box.. Anyone you told you had a debit of $500 would think you were silly after finding out you owed it to yourself. That's what the US debt is a huge IOU to its self.

I won't have to pay a massive tax increase to get the money for this plan. I won't have to worry about the doctors and nurses being layed off. I won't have to pay healthcare for people with no disabilities who can work but choose not to. Or the decreasing quality of healthcare for people who already have it.

The number of unemployed who simply do not work is not significant for that to be a legitimate argument. Quality of healthcare will not decline because the government is taking no active role in managing healthcare. Hell, it won't even be providing an alternate insurance option. There won't be a "massive tax increase"... it's not part of the bill.
