It's not just recently that British Comedy has been better. It's always been that the British comedy cinema has been better than that of American comedy cinema.

The one exception when American comedy is better than British comedy is stand up, purely and simply because of Bill Hicks. What a legend.

I find most British comedy dull and boring. Though american comedy trying to copy british comedy is even worse.

Original American comedy is the best. We have a reputation as the worlds laughing stock after all.;)

Alright alright, America has better animated comedy. Stuff like South Park and Family Guy and Futurama. The British don't tend to go there, and when they do it isn't very good.

Well the american comedy you listed is a black comedy so only the southern states will enjoy it haha. I was thinking like UK compared to the US version of The Office. I like the US version better, since I can't understand anything they say in the British version.

well, most of the slang they say is British slang that I have never heard of before, so it is harder to understand what they mean. I bet a British person would find it funny though.

British humour is really stale imo. For instance I'm watching this stupid show named "look around you" right now and I'm just wondering wtf is this.

Yeah, but then on the other side of the coin you've got Arrested Development, It's Always Sunny, Seinfeld, etc. There's gems and crap on both side of the pond.

Community is hilarious on NBC. I love CHUCK as well, although it's half spy half comedy. Agreed on Arrested Development. Good show. The Office!

I don't really think so. I find British humor to be dull at times. American comedy nowadays though definitely isn't at it's highest either.

I don't really think one kind of humor is better than the other, and I do appreciate British humor, but the very existence of George Carlin pretty much negates everything in the OP.

For the most part I agree. Though I am one of the only americans I know who even gets British humor. in a film class we got to watch Monty Python and the Holy Grail.. and omg.. Complete and utter silence, other than me who was on the floor rolling. Same thing happened to me when I tried to show my friends Black Books, Spaced, and the British office, they just didnt get it.

British humor (for the most part) seems to be more intelligent and american humor is more crude/slap stick. I like the british approach more, While we do get some intelligent comedies ... every once and a while ( Strangers with candy is all that comes to mind lol) They dont succeed as well as other comedies in america do at all (Vampires Suck #2 really america?..)

I like a mix of both. Like some old school British comedy such as On the Buses, Are You Being Served, Monty Python etc. Now put some American comedy before me like Anchorman and I'll enjoy that too. The problem is different culture's humor won't get picked up on by another. The perfect example of this is when America tried to remake Kath & Kim, an Australian comedy. The bogan stylings worked great in an Aussie environment but were destroyed when the U.S got a hold of it.

American comedy is too conventional, either too politically correct or overtly incorrect. British comedy is often abstract and straight-to-the-point. That is what makes it good.

The IT crowd

Peep Show

That Mitchell and Webb Look

vs.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

Important things with Demitri Martin

Those would be my 5 favorite comedies. both countries have great shows. you just have to look harder in america ;)
