He's trolling. Why is this not more obvious to people. This topic is locked from further discussion.
"Why don't atheists just believe in God, but not actively participate in Christian activities such as going to church?"
That just assumes that the Christian God is the correct one, what if all of them are worshiping the wrong god, or the wrong version of that god? What if Zeus is the 'correct' god? Then Christians are going to Hades or something, right? I don't know the punishment for not believing in Amun-Ra or other gods is, but most religions are 'our religion is right, and no other is', so... just count the number of religions that exist, and have existed, then figure your odds from there.
Atheists are either right or wrong; religious people are either right, wrong religion, or just plain wrong.

And Christianity is practiced by some of the dumbest.I'm going to prescribe you some reading Walrus.
on the duties of the clergy, please pay extra attention to the first two chapters.
[QUOTE="coolbeans90"][QUOTE="SaintWalrus"] how so? There are only Two possible realities in the realm of existence The existence of a deity or the non-existence of a deity Fiction or Non-fiction There is no third sphere.SaintWalrus
There is no third box, but there is no grounding evidence, like a million coin tosses, that suggest that they are equally likely, and likewise the claim that there is a 50-50 chance is the stupidest thing I've read today.
Take this for example There's a 50-50 percent chance that you're an idiot Beyond that we could see loads of proof of your idiocy (i.e your claims in this thread) But we still do not have all the facts, it is mere guess work based off of your actions so it is 50-50lol
And Christianity is practiced by some of the dumbest.MacBoomStick
If the internet has taught us anything there are extremely dumb Christians (jack Chick) and extremely dumb atheists (Head explodes*).

You catholic?
Atheism doesn't deny the existence of God, that is impossible. We just say there isn't any proof. Such a large claim should have some proof. lol@50/50cheese_game619
Atheism is the abesence of a claim in terms of religion. We don't need proof because it's impossible to prove a negative. Since they are trying to prove god's existence, they have all the responsibility in proving it's existence, until they can prove it's existence; god by default doesn't exist.
lol stop drop and roll does not work in hell. Gold. And lol fearmongering. What if believing to get into heaven gets you a one way ticket to hell, and only true absolute believers actually get in? Cause obviously god can tell the difference, right?XilePrincessHEY LOL! THATS LEONARDO DICAPRIO IN YOUR SIG LOL!!! DID U KNOW THAT LOL!?

Orthodox love St Ambrose as well ya know ;)
If by some chance god did exist i would rather take my chances and go to hell with satan than stay in heaven with such a disgusting god (The christian god)"When it comes to God, outside of the Christian perspective, there is a 50-50 chance of him existing. He either does or doesn't. Christians, by believing in God, are covered for the afterlife, if it so happens to exist. But Atheists, they drive without insurance, if they're right, they go no where, if they're wrong, well, just remember that Stop drop and Roll does not work in Hell."
He brings up a very valid point.

Just believing gets you a ticket into heaven.
So why not?
SaintWalrus
Its not about pretending to believe in him, its about actually believing in him but just not going 2 church. Believing in God gives u the chance to go to Heaven. Not believing symbolizes hatred toward God and basically automatically puts u in hellYou'd think god would be smart enough to know if someone is just pretending to believe in him so they could trick there way into heaven.
But then again this is the Christian god we're talking about.

Because faith isn't a choice, just like the thoughts that stream into your head aren't. Its not obvious, but think about it, your conscious is pulling stuff forward for itself to choose from, and it seems to us it is pulling it out of thin air. The thoughts that come to us like the snap of a finger, whenever we recall that weird fact or pointless memory, its not choice. Neither is faith. Faith is an amazing thing, because you can't choose it. Some of us look at the sky and know there is something out there. Some of us look up and accept there is only us, the universe, and what we make of it. Others aren't sure. So what choice do you have, do you fake it for God? Something tells me he'd know.
You can't choose to have faith.

whats the point of this? so atheists should live life pretending to have faith in god yet they wont truly have faith?and according to to the bible you got to have faith to enter the kingdom of god...as i said so whats the point of pretending if you have no faith?

Although TC is a known troll the sad thing is some people do think this way about Christianity and religion in general. Some people really do believe that going to church and saying you believe in something null and voids your hell card. The fact that people will place faith in a religion like they would place a bet in roulette is just distressing and a poor example of someone with actual faith in what they believe.
What about agnostics like me who think that there could or couldn't be a god? I don't think thats ignorant since thats how I've learned things my whole life."When it comes to God, outside of the Christian perspective, there is a 50-50 chance of him existing. You're worse than a Mets fan, pick a side!RandomWinnerWhats wrong with thinking the way I think? I haven't even seen god, and I don't know if a god doesn't exist. So why should I choose based on low quality information?

I know right? Some people.
There is also a 50/50 chance of a Ferrari being in my driveway right now...It's either there or it isn't.

You won't face any consequences with God But your physical body will, by the LawSo what you're saying is. As long as I believe in God, I can kill all the people I want without any consequences in the afterlife!

I believe that, once saved always saved
You can kill a whole preschool of kids, but you can never drop from faith.
You would be put to death by State Law, But you'd never drop from faith from God.
It may be wrong
It may be stupid
It may be disgusting beyond all comprehensible levels
In your eyes
But that's what Makes God God
That's what makes him the immeasurable force of power he is.
The unlimited amount of forgiveness he cascades upon you.
You only see it as wrong because the human mind cannot comprehend the immenseness of this trait of God.
Just like how humans cannot grasp the sheer magnitutde of the universe, or the non-existance of time before it was created by God.
The human mind simply cannot swallow this pill.
It takes YEARS of practice to even accept this sheer leap of faith.
And I remember when Religion wasn't used as a political weapon Like todayI remember when trolls were witty or funny

That's why I said "consequences in the afterlife," plus I think a painless execution by the state would be nice. It's like I'm avoiding all the hardships of life now and getting eternal bliss now.
