I'll be a little sad when she loses and no longer says silly things.Sajo7
If it helps, I think she'll continue saying silly things, but unless she takes them to a whole new level, you probably won't hear about them. She's set herself quite a bar.

There is a general misinterpretation of the Separation of Church and State...what the Amendement means is that the Federal Government cannot force any one religion upon the people.

Teachers are government employees.. If they are teaching a religion they are in fact enforcing a religion upon the people.. Hence why public schools and public organizations are secular in nature.

technically she is right that phrase does not appear anywhere in the constitution its an idea that merely refers to no official religion not anything concerning religion or God cant at all be taught in or mentioned in public areas.

the 1st amendment ensures no official religion can exist. but saids nothing that God cant exist in government or all references to God must be blotted out of the government.

Yes, she's wrong, but Coons is also wrong to think that the separation of church and state means that the Constitution says that religion should be eradicated out of the public sector. Now, I do think religion should be privatized, but that is not what the U.S. has done since it's inception. There are many religious references in the U.S.'s history, such as the Leviticus verse on the Liberty Bell or the Declaration of Independence. Now, I don't think that means we have to make the U.S. a Christian nation because most of our American ancestors that founded the country were also Christian. In fact, as I said before, I believe religion should be privatized, but it should be done so through a Constitutional amendment as the separation of church and state the Jefferson mentioned is not how the liberals are interpreting it.

I think this pretty well clears it up...Her campaign issued a statement later saying O'Donnell "was not questioning the concept of separation of church and state as subsequently established by the courts. She simply made the point that the phrase appears nowhere in the Constitution."

If she was so sure that those exact words wern't in the Constitution why did she sit there with that moronic grin? If she'd have further clarified what she meant instead of asking it over and over again and making herself look unintelligent this wouldn't look so bad for her. It's bad enough she's already behind double digits and it's taking focus off of some of the Teabaggers who might actually win come election day.

I have a conservative friend who says he will bet anyone $100 that they cannot find the words 'separation of church and state' in the constitution. In that regard, he is correct, the constitution never says those words. But it does say "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." This means that congress will NOT make any laws about religion, and because it is congress that makes all the laws, then religion will always be kept separate from the government.

Yeah, it has. All evidence points in favor of it while there is zero (that's right, zero) evidence to support creationism.

she's lining up for a Palin like celebrity status after the election, she's weeding out all the can't-hack-its that fail to endure the mental gymnasticism needed for her fanbase I mean really, I didn't expect to find people here to say stuff like she was taken out of context and her words were twisted... but wow, just looking at some of the responses on this forum, I guess I shouldn't put anything past anyone

And even better, it is the other way around. Coons is an utter imbecile. Where as O'Donnell can school all of America (because they do not know the 1st Amendment), Coons can't even state the first 5 amendments.

Are you sure? I thought I heard the other way. Maybe someone has a link. I can't believe we have page after page of slamming ODonnel, but NO ONE here mentions that Coons can't even state the 5 freedoms?! I'm sure you have this wrong because I can't believe GS posters are this biased.
