I'm surprised there's no thread on this already, but then again that just goes to show why this bill passed in the first place: no one was paying attention to it, even though it was just SOPA 2.0. Except that now instead of just caring about copyright it now gives the government free reign to do whatever it wants on the internet as long as it's to "cybersecurity crime, protection of individuals, and protection of children" (ie, whatever they want since those three things are so vague you can use them to justify anything).

Now granted the white house has said Obama will veto the bill, but then that's what they said about the NDA 2011 bill and we all know how that ended up.

Honestly, the government doesn't deserve our attention anymore anyways.

I say to just live our lives as if they were no part of us.

This is scary. I've known this for a few months and people just completely ignored it like it meant nothing.

This could be easily abused.

It may not get past the Senate, and it sounds like the POTUS will veto it.

Yes, it passed the house after being pushed forward a day early and passed with a 2/3 majority. That kind of enthusiastic support and deviousness doesn't bode well.

Anyone know if there's a better place I can move to outside of America? Europe, Japan, Italy, etc.?

This country is so screwed up in the head.

Well technically, if our fears about the bill are realized, we won't know if anything will change -- that's the point and the reason the bill is abhorrent. Sites that could be potential threats to govt. secrecy, etc. will practically never had existed, and you're right, we'll be none the wiser.

why? they could argue that your facebook page is anti-government after it passes and take it down and then lock you up for it. they could also get an american soldier to do it for them thx to the NDAA

so people stop b1tching about the bills rather than simply not elect the legislators making them.

It's more than just CISPA that I'm mad about. More & more unconstitutional bills being passed, such as NDAA, more & more of our rights being taken away, etc. This country is officially a joke now. A complete JOKE.

Part of the reason he didn't veto the NDAA was because if he did veto the bill it would have pretty much shut down the military to include making it where troops wouldn't have got paid until the bill did pass.

This bill, if vetoed, wouldn't cost people their paychecks for an indefinite period of time. But at the same time a veto override is always possible with enough votes.

then why did he threaten to veto it if it did not have the most atrocious parts? at least according to members of his own party. he held the congress hostage for the power to detain and assassinate us citizens
