This bill is in no way SOPA 2.0. I am not really sure where you get that idea (it has nothing to do with piracy)

But both bills hurt our privacy.how? Would you like someone to watch you take a crap? Didn't think so. Same thing with the internet. I don't want anyone watching what I do. You should be more concerned with your privacy and this bill instead of blowing it off. That's how this stuff gets passed, apathy.[QUOTE="nintendoboy16"][QUOTE="Jacobistheman"]

The fact that the government can and will read anything you say, any pictures you post, any thing at all that has to do with your private life, the words "mind your own f****** bussiness" is motive enough for any individual to be against it even if you have nothing to hide.I know what youre sayin man. And I know its lame and shouldnt be passed. I guess where Im at is that I just already figured that the gov. is corupt and spies on us anyway/ ive got nothing to hide so at this point whats the dif. Im not saying im ok with it, im not saying its ok, im just saying it doesnt seem like anything new nor do i really think that the average joe REALLY has anything to worry about. However I will admit that I know little about this stuff as well. Is there anything we can do to make sure it doesnt pass? Because also, in reseaching this and other bills you mentioned I see a lot of "the sky is falling" and "ZOMG THE GOVERNMENT IS GOING TO LOCK US ALL UP!" but no action.
Kraven1845
Good, I hoped it would pass.AIpha-This is the ignorance that leads to bills like this being passed. How is it sopa 2.0? Enlighten me genius. Cause from what I know it has more to do with personal information than copyright. Go to EFF if you don't believe me.
[QUOTE="Wasdie"]
And nothing will change. You just watch.
DeadMan1290
You think so? Let's hope you're right.
The bill isn't SOPA 2. It's not directed at pirates and protection of IP over the internet. However it is very vague. One *could* see it being used to hurt our internet privacy and shut down harmless websites, but it's really kind of a stretch.
A quick glance at the bill shows that it's really meant for security in the modern age where all of our systems are connected on the internet. There are a lot of vulnerabilities. A lot of the infrastructure on in the world is owned and operated by private companies, not the government.
They even threw together an amendment to the bill limiting the governments uses of the new bill.
Faced with widespread privacy concerns, Rogers and Rep. C.A. "Dutch" Ruppersberger of Maryland, the Intelligence panel's top Democrat, pulled together an amendment that limits the government's use of threat information to five specific purposes: cybersecurity; investigation and prosecution of cybersecurity crimes; protection of individuals from death or serious bodily harm; protection of minors from child pornography; and the protection of national security.
The House passed the amendment, 410-3.MSNBC
That's pretty specific if you ask me. This whole thread is just fear mongering.
Still, the paranoid people will believe that the government will use this power to directly control every aspect of the internet. I'm not saying I agree with it, I just think this bill is being overblown and nothing really will change.
Thread full of misinformation. I know you guys are afraid of being caught doing anything illegal online, but does anyone actually understand what the law does? I mean, has anyone got the actual provisions for us to browse through?

[QUOTE="AussieePet"]Poor Americans lol c0kemusheen
Australian internet's censored. From what I understand, you guys don't get 4ch*n.
So is their gaming industry. Honestly they have no room to talk, but that won't stop them...
Nope. We've only got a barebones system of internet censorship, that is mostly incapable of doing anything useful.
Under our current legislation, the government can't blacklist overseas websites, and can't even seek out offence websites to block/remove - the worst ACMA can do is receive complaints from the public, then request the IIA to take down RC- and X-rated content hosted on Australian websites.
As for the gaming industry, only 17 games have been perma-banned in the history of the industry, and barely a handful of those were worth playing. They were only banned because we didn't have an R18+ rating for games, which we're getting next year. Problem solved.
until people stop watching the kardashians and jersery shore and making useless post about yourselves on facebook.. laws like this will keep on happening. the masses in this country are ignorant. and don't think europe is protected from such laws like this.
and also you people who refuse to stop downloading copyrighted material have only yourselves to blame for such things like this. people who abuse systems always makes it hard for people who have done nothing wrong. it gets on my nerves seeing people brag about their illegal music collection like it's some badge of honor or something.
I've found what looks like at least part of the legislation. Only glanced through it briefly, but this bit looks promising:
(6) CYBER THREAT INFORMATION- The term `cyber threat information' means information directly pertaining to a vulnerability of, or threat to a system or network of a government or private entity, including information pertaining to the protection of a system or network from-
(A) efforts to degrade, disrupt, or destroy such system or network; or
(B) theft or misappropriation of private or government information, intellectual property, or personally identifiable information.
So...how is a law allowing for the gathering and (heavily regulated) sharing of that information going to affect you guys in any way?
Anyone know if there's a better place I can move to outside of America? Europe, Japan, Italy, etc.?
This country is so screwed up in the head.Shinobi120
LOL @ thinking everywhere is candyland except america....europe just got slammed with another recession, and all global economies are tied to the US economy and vice versa.
How could you possibly regulate something so vast and boundless? biggest_loserwith a ironfist. just place bounds, limit the greatest thing in the last 100 years.
Can someone tell me why is this so badly? AussieePetBecause nobody wants to be like Australia and have the government involved in every little tid bit of our lives. Ban this Ban that, its too violent BLAH BLAH LAME.

Incramentalism. They start off small and grow until they eventually regulate every part of your life. Happened with taxes, business regulation, Healthcare, education, and now the internet. Everything the government gets involved in gets worse over time, possibly with the exception of helping big business get bigger.

They are just using piracy and child porn as scapegoats in order to get this passed. CISPA allows the government to regulate the internet, which is a bad thing. I really can't get any less vague. Do some research of your own.Passed the House, not the Senate.chessmaster1989Facts are Un-American. Get with the program chessmaster!
