Clearing up why Obama got the peace prize

What I don't understand is that why are people so angry at Obama when he didn't even nominate himself. People are so jealous these days its horrible.MgamerBD

Who cares about the Nobel Peace Prize anyway? This same award was awarded to Henry Kissinger, who is arguably a war criminal. -Sun_Tzu-

The reason he got it was purely political. He certainly holds a lot of promise - he has made indications of what he plans to do with american foreign policy in THE FUTURE. Much of it does seem to be along the ideals of promoting peace and tolerance. He wants the US out of Iraq. He wantsa more benign and diplomatic policy for foregin affairs. But all of this is yet to happen. I think the peace prize would have been better awarded to him in the future.

I can't help think of this book excerpt when I hear about this 'award':

"Nothing of value is free. Even the breath of life is purchased at

I was sore. First that dirty crack about rich kids -- a typical sneer
of those who haven't got it -- and now this farce. I ripped it off and

"Exactly! The prize for first place is worthless to you . . . because
you haven't earned it. But you enjoy a modest satisfaction in placing

Because of politics. I like Obama as much as the next guy, but even I think the "award" is complete and utter BS.

Anyone defending this, IMHO, is not just drinking the Kool Aid. You are drunk on it.
