The attachable lights that you could put on gameboy colors so you could play in the dark. Now with the brightness of everything little kids will never have to worry about getting pokemon eye strain......pansies.

I'm pretty sure that "younger people" older than 6 would be aware of a lot of the stuff I grew up with There hasn't really been a huge shift in popular characters or past times in the last 20 years so chances its more "back in my day we didn't have...".

Vinyl. Digital music doesn't come even close in sound quality. Sadly even CD's are becoming obsolete. There's just something about actually holding your Vinyl, Cassette or CD artwork, lyrics, credits, photos, etc in your hands that makes the music that much more personal. This is something the iTunes and Torrent babies will never experience.

I love vinyl, and I'm 14. Also, as to say it doesn't come close to sound quality is completely wrong. This is more of an opinon, digital music, FLAC specifically, is more of a neutral, not warm or cold sound. A simply reference sound. Vinyl puts a spin on it(hehe), and the music sounds more warm. More kbps does not make it better.

MTV that played music videos, video arcades existed and the games were good and costs 1 goddamn quarter, Garfield books, Disney Afternoon, Liquid Television, we had a more hopeful youth that thought by now we'd have flying cars and colonies on Mars, making mix tapes, when I was a kid we used to get feet of snow every winter now we don't get shit, AOL dial up, and Nabster.

The McDLT. The burger was split in half and came in two adjacent compartments (to keep the hot side hot and the cold side cold until the last second), and then you quickly folded them together to turn it into a complete burger. To be fair, the burger itself was pretty shite, but when you're a little kid, it seems like a cool concept.

Brick cellphones. Getting attacked? Don't call the police with your phone, just bash them with your gigantic Nokia.

Do kids still have black notebooks and gel pens? Those were fun as hell.

Like notebooks with black paper and white lines. So you could see the light colored pens on them.

internets and retro make younglings today far more initiated with the times that came before them then peoples of other eras. with tenuous culture boundaries and the blitz of stimulus they blunt themselves with over the internet, it must be strange to have such a tentative sense of having something belong to them or even of time. im grateful for having been established in a sweet spot where its easy stand; not stuck in the past, or drowning in the future.

toys today are really compelling, however when i was newer i thought wind up stuff was interesting. perhaps even still a little before my time, there were still plenty of wind up things to appreciate. there are probably even less wind up things around.

i once had a wind up game. in which your rocket dodged space objects. haven't seen anything like it since.

They were great games that very few people in general have played, wish I still had them.
