I'm going with the Cell saga hands down. Extremely powerful, extremely intelligent. Beyond genius story. I mean I was just so blown away by that whole saga. second goes to Freeza, third to Buu. What about you guys?

I'm not so much into it now as I used to be when I was 8 or so and it came on everyday. I used to have atleast 50 action figures, all kinds of books, movies, etc of the show. I think the Cell Saga was the best. Especially the "CellGames"episodes. Then Freeza. The show began to decline for me during the Buu saga.
It all went downhill after the Frieza saga and by the time it got to the Buu saga, it was a pile of crap.
Just noticed you spelled Frieza wrong OP, and I copied it. :P
I agree. I think the Freeza saga was great, but the Cell saga IMO one upped it so bad. It was kinda hard for Buu to follow Cell. The only problem I had with Buu was that he started off totally lame looking. He was not cool at all in the beginning when he was fat and acting like a baby.I'm not so much into it now as I used to be when I was 8 or so and it came on everyday. Frieza is the best, hands down, and I know I'll be in the minority here, but my second favorite would be Buu. As far as the main story arcs go, I didn't care too much for the Cell saga.
The Freeza saga by far, I mean Freeza was a being of unbelievable power that everyone feared, and Goku had become very strong but he still was no match for Freeza, besides Freeza was just heartless which makes him the best villain. Now the Cell Saga was somewhat predictable (it was obvious Gohan was the one supposed to beat Cell) and the Buu Saga was kind of boring, it got repetitive.6_voltsCell killed Goku. I effing fell off my chair when that happened.

Cell Saga. Freeza is next only because I like him so much (not much a fan of all the Zarbon/Dodoria and The Ginyu Force stuff) is 2nd then Buu third. I really love all 4 carnations of Buu though.

Nah, I agree that the Frieza saga was the best. The Cell saga comes in second because it was a little over the top. The Buu saga was alright but my least favorite.
Cell games. It was emotional and the last time the series felt genuine and not completely forced. The villain was also good, unlike the Buu saga where we got a fat marshmellow/pink monkey as the villain. Frieza saga is right behind the Cell games.

Well, the way I see it, the most epic moments in DBZ go as follows:
1. Goku turns into a Super Saiyan for the first time (Frieza saga)
2. Goku vs Majin Vegeta (Buu Saga)
3. Piccolo dies protecting Gohan (Saiyan saga)
4. Goku arrives to Namek and owns Recoom in one blow (Frieza Saga)
4. Goku returns from the afterlife and owns Nappa in one blow (Saiyan Saga)
5. Vegeta dies at the hands of Frieza (Frieza Saga)
6. Android 18 breaks Super Saiyan Vegeta's arm (Cell saga)
So, considering there isn't a single moment from the Cell saga in my top 5, I have no choice but to rank it lower than both the Buu and Saiyan sagas. :P
I loved the cell saga, but I voted for freeze solely because it was the beginning of my epic Dragon ball watching adventures,
My order goes like this. 1 Frieza Saga. When you first watched that saga as a kid it was just the most exciting thing ever. Frieza was the first villian that just seemed impossibly strong and completely menacing. This unmovable obstacle was only overcome by the irresistable force that was super saiyan Goku and when you saw the two match up to each other you went absolutely ape****. Every other saga in the series after this seemed to copy the formula of this one, a mega powerful villian would turn up and the saiyans would ascend to a new form to defeat them. 2. Saiyan saga. I almost wanted to put this one first because the saiyans are such exciting characters. Goku vs Vegeta was the best fight in the whole anime (and manga for that matter) and I crapped myself when Piccolo ran through both Goku and Raditz with his "special beam cannon" (the translation on the English manga calls it the "light of death"). All in all though there was a but too much filler and since this was the early days it wasn't quite the quality that the Frieza saga was. 3. Cell saga. This was another good saga with a continuous chain of action from the androids right to the end of the Cell games. There was plenty of memorable action moments as others have noted and Cell's cold intellectual villainy was compelling. Unfortunately though this story seemed to be trying to copy the excitement of the Frieza saga and it also introduced Hercule.... so yeah third place. 4. Buu saga. This was the only saga that I thought was bad. Buu was a stupid villain, it got much too silly at many points and it had lots of Hercule. In its favour though it did get to address the tension between Vegeta and Goku that had been present since the Saiyan saga and there were some mighty epic moments. Overall though DBZ ought to have ended with Goku dead after the Cell saga as Akira Toriyama intended. This was an extraneous add on that served to taint an otherwise excellent series.domatron23
what about the garlic jr. saga or the android saga?
Definitely not the Majin Buu saga. It's a close one between the other two but I chose the Cell saga.
Freeza saga.
That was where the series was originally supposed to end, and that's the only arc that the Super Saiyan legend maked sense. The instant Future Trunks turned Super Saiyan the whole thing was ruined.

I don't remember. :?
