Gays can be married here Abortions are allowed here Healthcare is provided to those in need There is a very clear divide between Church and state No patriot act We can choose not to wear a condom without government consent and not have people call for our death when we turn ourselves in for that because of some completely different "crime" that has yet to endanger peoples lives and really only make some politicians mad. I would say that's at least 1 up on the states since we don't lack any of their basic rights.

Gay marriage is allowed in some states. (Some isn't all) Abortions are legal. (People are sometimes killed for practicing them and it seems like a massive amount of people want it gone) Healthcare is provided to everybody. No hospital can turn away a patient in desperate help. (Then you charge them out the ass) Same here. (No. There is an incredibly hazy line and some people want to get rid of even that) Obama was supposed to repeal that, never did, not our fault. We voted him in office on that promise. (Still was implemented and exists) Ummm, not related to U.S. at all. That's all Sweden. (Yes I know it was a clear knock against certain people in this thread)

To lazy to fix the text chomp, responses in brackets.

You are really reaching. People killed for practicing abortions? A few wackjobs have murdered abortions docs, but thousands/millinos of abortions are practiced safely here every year. Regarding healthcare, if someone is treated and can't pay, usually the government foots the bill. You'd be shocked by how many people qualify for Medicaid coverage. Once again you have no clue how our healthcare works. On church and state, there is not a hazy line at all. There is a pretty clear split between church/state, which of course the media distorts.

Yeah, and the U.S. unemployment rate is at 9.8%. I was more getting at that the U.S. isn't "exceptional", it has just as many problems as many other nations.

redstorm72

Hey I was just evening up the odds. You did use unemployment as a negative to the US.

Yeah, I should have explained a bit better in my initial post. I just get tired of hearing from some people how America is the promised land of awesomeness and perfection. The U.S. is a great country, but it is by no means perfect. All nations can be improved.

Well there are some countries I wouldn't want to live in.....but there are others where I could adapt. Canada's too cold though...and I'd have to give up my Penguins.:P
I wouldn't mind Canada...
Romania? Heh...too funny I figured you were at least from a good place like the UK or Canada based on your smack. I guess I too be pissed as hell at those evil Americans too if I from Romania.

We have most things you have. The same opportunities and all.

I actually have a pretty good idea how your medicare works. Yes I was using hyperbole on purpose since that's what you guys have been doing, though I would join in. I'll be honest here, I'm doing this for laughs (which I was getting before I posted even). The American exceptionalism is hilarious though. The idea that one country is superior to others, that's obviously the best way to help the world out.
You aren't an American I assume, so you wouldn't understand the concept of American exceptionalism, freedom and liberty.darktx2005

I can't help but laugh at this. You can't honestly be that arrogant can you? I do know what freedom and liberty are as I live in a nation that is just as free, if not more so, than your nation (Canada). And "exceptionalism"? Really? What is so exceptional about the U.S.?

There is a reason why people are knocking down the doors to come to the US for a college education or to work. There is not another country in the world that provides the same amount of opportunity to it's citizens.

All of Europe says "sup".

there are so many countries who are better then the USA, dosent take long to research either.

You get used to the cold. Think about it this way, it just means more time for skiing and hockey. I love when people from other countries experience their first Canadian winter. On the news there will be a warning like "leaving skin exposed for more than 5 minutes can risk frost bite" and they will freak out while the rest of us put on our touques and walk outside :P

Hooooly crap you finally said the magical word. It's subjective. I don't hate the US, in fact I like it quite a bit. I just hate when people blindly love their country which is what I've seen a pretty huge amount of in this topic.

What pisses me off about the America bashing more than anything is that if any of countries whose citizens always trash us (Canada, UK etc..) had something bad happen to it (military or a natural disaster), the US would be the first country asked to help. The US would provide that help, even to those allies that we know work with our enemies behind our backs.

Anyways, continue on talking about how horrible of a place this is.

I completely agree, but I feel a duty to defend the endless trashing the US gets from people. I understand. One must always defend their nations honour from the many haters in the world. I do love my country and defend it whenever someone bashes it, but I try not to say my country is better than others or put other countries down (but, admittedly, I can forget sometimes).

I wanted to change my opinion about most American patriots, but you: 1.Supported the assassinations of people from all over the world were they to spread leaked information found by someone who's already arrested. 2.Defended the American military for killing unarmed civilians and hurting children on the assumption that they were insurgents 3.Think your country is everything and has authority over the entire world. You seem to value a person of the U.S' life that you don't know more than someone else's from another country

OMG, this thread... The USA is not perfect. It also is not terrible. I know it's really cool to hate the USA these days, and while I do recognize many of its flaws, there are still plenty of good thigns about the USA. It's not a black and white issue ("all good" or "all bad"). Every country has its share of flaws. No country is exempt from that. I like living in the USA. There are lots of good things about the USA. I am not afraid to recognize its flaws either, though. There are a lot of things I also don't like about it, and I disagree with some of its laws and its government a lot of the time. However, my everyday life is rather high-quality. I have no complaints about that. A lot of good things and a lot of bad things have come out of the USA. The same can be said for any other country, even the so-called 'better' countries (UK, Canada, Norway, Belgium, etc.) proclaimed by another poster previously. People who relentlessly hate on the USA are tiresome. People who relentlessly praise and defend the USA out of pure blind patriotism are tiresome. Take some goddamn middle ground, please.

Yea, well. It seems to be more of a fad to hate The U.S., even though the U.S. does a lot of good things for the world.

A fad that's been going on for 300 years. It's less hate than friendly ribbing and from the outside perspective you guys are rather backwards.

And we have perceptions about citizens in other countries...but that doesn't A mean they are correct or B mean they should be said to those people. ;)

Yeah that's tr...even to allies that we know work with our enemies behind our backs? Wut. Like...uh...Quebec?

Wikileaks revealed some of that for one. I'm not talking about Canada. I'm talking more about places like Pakistan and such.

See you should be thankful for wikileaks even though we already have known that for years. Also Pakistan isn't an ally.

TBH, I'm 50% for Wikileaks. Some documents are classified for a reason and should never see public eye; others should be leaked because they expose political lies. The politicians who exploit the American people's ignorance of their government need a slap in the face.

Also, people need to learn the definition of terrorism. It's kinda hilarious so many people misuse the term when it's hammered into our heads daily.

Pakistan is an ally. A very bad one, but still an ally. They're (supposedly) helping us aganist the insurgents. In return, the U.S helps them.

I see. Well, the next time a disaster happens, war, etc, we should just say F you, world. Don't come crying to us then.

"You guys made fun of us jokingly  We're not helping you out next time you're in trouble" I thought perhaps you would try to disprove my point of you being backwards but I suppose not.

Yeah, I should have explained a bit better in my initial post. I just get tired of hearing from some people how America is the promised land of awesomeness and perfection. The U.S. is a great country, but it is by no means perfect. All nations can be improved.

SkyWard20

I completely agree, but I feel a duty to defend the endless trashing the US gets from people. I love most of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the like, but I also love my country more than any other place in the world. I imagine you feel the same about yours and would defend your country if people were endlessly trashing it every day.

You are making a bunch of assumptions aren't you? 1.) I never said that, that was another person. I just simply said that if someone was leaking intel on the internet that lead to lost lives of American soliders or undercover agents, they should be treated as an enemy. That doesn't necessarily mean kill, but the US should do everything it legally can to arrest them and bring them to justice. I'm not sure why that's so bad. I'm not talking about this Wikileak BS. I'm talking about serious intel that threatens and/or leads to American deaths. 2.) Eveyrthing isn't black and white. You refuse to look at the situation in the video in the eyes of those soldiers who were there. Countless people have explained why while tragic, it was not a bloodthirsty killing of civilians like you make it out to be. When you look at the circumstances surrounding it, they did what any soldier of any nation would've done. The fact that you refuse to look at this from that perspective makes debate with you on this point worthless. I'm not sure how this makes me an evil American though? I'm not all for killing civilians. I hate that it happens, but I also don't think that those soldiers should be made out to be murderers. 3.) I never said my country has authority over the entire world. I've never said that and I don't believe that. I do love my country and think it's a great place and I won't change that opinion. If that makes you hate me, then I can't help that.

I think Pakistan is getting the good end of the deal. They take our money and screw us behind our backs.

I actually agree with you on pretty much every thing. However as was already said it's less fun to use my actual views in a topic like this.

All subjective, of course. LJS9502_basic

like i said, research ;)

you can either look at theHuman Development Index or by others likeGlobal Peace Index,Gender Equality,Life expectancy ect.

you will be surprised how many times countries like norway and sweden are at the top

You need to also realize that some things are omitted in compiling those statistics depending on country.

obviously, and you need to realize that the same is true for every county and mostly every single type of research EVER. Its impossible to take everything into account, there will always be either corruption or flaws.

the question is simply, is it enough to make a point? Or in the case of this thread, should we trust an opinion of a random nationalistic person on a gameing forum, or the only type of facts we have available?

il go with the facts, as long as people keep living in a dream world, they will never fix the problems in their society but rather ignore them.

There is a site that combines all sorts of information based on countries, and combines them into a overall score. Thats where i got the list of countries from. Feel free to research on your own, that is if you prefer facts. Nationalism and Patriotism can only get you as far. Its worth nothing in the real world.
