If he's dead, I don't mind. Where do I sign?

bloodling

Why do you want him dead?

What could that possibly solve?

Nothing. Lots of people would be extremely happy and relieved though. I already answered that, it solves the same thing prison does. It's just different.

Happy for what reason? That a man died? Prisoners engaging in gladiatorial fights used to make people happy, but we don't do them anymore because they are unethical and barbaric.

In your opinion you mean? Unethical and barbaric varies, a while back police in my country did a judge dredd style execution, do you know what the public response was? Unanimous applause, because the criminals are so out of hand here. Do you know who were the people against it? The people from the areas all the criminals congregate and live.

Against. Your letting the criminals off easy with this.

If you really want to make them suffer, put them IN JAIL for life. No parole.

Espada12

There's this as well. A little needle prick and drifting off to sleep seems like less of a punishment than spending the rest of your natural life confined to an 8' x 10' cell.

It would be in a 3rd world country, but unfortunately criminals are given such luxuries as TVs and such in prisons...

Yeah, because having a TV (which, by the way, is a privilige which must be earned in prison) totally makes up for the lack of freedom, lack of privacy, and having to watch your backside in the shower.

Just because it satisfies peoples' bloodlust doesn't mean it's any less barbaric.

If someone does wrong then there should be punishment for it even if it is the death penalty.

Barbaric to YOU, I'm sorry we all don't live in a fantasy world like you guys but sometimes what needs to be done needs to be done. This is why the US has the CIA, England with Mi6/SAS, Israel with Mossad, etc etc because sometimes things just need to be done, and they know the hippie liberals would be outraged so they have to do everything in secret.

Anyway, some people say he deserves to die, others say it's unethical. Some of you guys even think that they should go to prison because that's worse, which shows how our point of view is understandable.

You have privacy in developed countries it can just be violated at any time.... and the whole shower thing is just  , point is they don't live 1/2 as bad you guys think. Maybe in a third world country but not in America or Canada or UK or nations like that.

It seems like you have to work pretty hard to get the death penalty these days. Even committing murder doesn't put your ass in the chair most of the time. So, considering that the people who are sentenced to death must have done something incredibly heinous, I have absolutely no sympathy for them.

I just don't get how it is barbaric. I believe in mercy, but that doesn't mean the death penalty shouldn't be an option. I guess I just don't see the problem with it.

Pretty sure most people would let the criminal live. People don't like having blood on their hands even if it's just them giving the permission to have a man killed. At least that's what I hope, that may just be people here. I know if I was given the choice I would let the criminal live, I see no reason to lower myself to their level.

Because murders and serious crimes have dropped off 25% so far since they started doing this type of action, it's working so people will continue to support it.

Links please. And I ask for links because I have links available for why the death penalty doesnt decrease the crime rate (at all or significantly). Just a second. While I'll dig them, you dig up yours, please.

No, thats not their job to do so.

I was not implying to allow the victim to be the Judge, only if the suspect is convicted and sentenced to death row, the victim could perhaps pardons the felon.

I have a family friend who just finished a 12 year stretch in a US federal prison. Yeah, it's pretty bad. No privacy. No freedom. Guys trying to pick a fight with you all the time. No peace, no quiet. Nothing.

People on death row are always trying to get their death sentences commuted to life in prison.

If prison is so awful, why do we never hear about prisoners trying to get their life sentence commuted to death?

I am for it, although I think it's the easy way out for some. Life in prison would quickly sober them up and give them years to think about what they'd done.

A lot of that has to do with lawyers. A communted sentence is a victory for the lawyer. Also most people fear death, it's natural to do so. For the flipside look up Gary Gilmore.

I'm against it because, to quote The Onion, "Life in prison is way more badass, because then it's like you're on some kind of prison colony in the future, or something, where you just have to fight to survive."

Convicts aren't always the smartest bunch. I know I would take death before life in prison. In fact some do commit suicide pretty quick.

Besides, in the rest of the world, the exact opposite is true.

For. Some people just do not deserve life.

It's not something to take lightly. 3 meals a day, showers, cable TV are far to good for some people.

I'm all for it, when they have full proof and evidence, including thorough DNA testing, when people commit serious crimes, such as murder. But if they don't have enough evidence, then, just life in prison with no parole.

I just posted, I didn't actually read through the thread.

Then proof beyond a reasonable doubt, and based on the heinousness of the crime.
