Which debut albums do you consider as a good representation/best of a band.
I'd say Pearl Jam's Ten....
And to a lesser extent REM's Murmur.

I agree with you on Pearl Jam's Ten. And are you asking what we think are very good debut albums, or just that they show the best the band has to offer? LZ71Best of the band....but you can answer it either way. I'm easy.
Only Radiohead CD I currently have is Pablo Honey. Other than Creep...I didn't like it.RATM-Rage Against The Machine
Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnndddddddddddddd that's about it, because I know beatles and radiohead can't go in that :P

Dummy by Portishead.
I'd agree with you on Pearl Jam's Ten, but I find it hard to choose between Ten and Vitalogy.
Really? I thought Sams town was very good. To say it sucks is absurd. Anyway, to answer the question I would say Adam Green's debut Album was great. I figure most people have never even heard of him.I would say The Killers. Hot Fuss is the only good CD they put out. Day & Age was decent, and I thought Sam's Town was their worst.

[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"] [QUOTE="LZ71"] I usually find that the bands later work finds a way to surpass the earlier stuff. I don't know too many debut albums, besides PJ's Ten, that I like more than the later work by the band.Darth-Caedus
I don't know, I think for most bands it serves as a sort of warm up and their best album ends up coming later on.cyberdarkkidHmm, to me it just seems like its usually either all downhill, or just managing to remain consistent, but never surpassing the debut...though this is mostly for death and black metal, most bands in other genres seem to get better after the debut...:P
what death or black metal band peaked at their first album?

Which is why I'm so surprised at how good Ten is....

Emperor, Decapitated, Ensiferum, Necrophagist, and Eucharist, just to name a few..[QUOTE="barcx17"]Really? I thought Sams town was very good. To say it sucks is absurd. I didn't say it sucks. I enjoy the album, but I guess I was just expecting a follow up to Hot Fuss with synths and everything and instead I got a little Bruce Springsteen. :P Did you like Day & Age?
Falconer's debut (and self-titled) album is definitely their best. Black Sabbath's debut (and self-titled) album is (imo) their best as well, though they have many other albums of similar quality.chessmaster1989Guess who now listens to Amon Amarth? >_>
Wait, so is this thread about albums of which turned out to be their best from the band or albums that were a very good start and representation of their later albums?cyberdarkkidI went with best only because it's so rare IMO for the debut to be the best.....

Images and Words. When Dream and Day Unite to me, isn't their debut album

I can't do albums at this point, but the song I got is "Cry of the Black Birds".Really? I thought Sams town was very good. To say it sucks is absurd. Nothing wrong with borrowing ideas from The Boss....except they really made an empty-feeling album. The best parts of Sam's town were the 'Enterlude" and "Exitlude" tracks. The rest were pretty generic rock that tried too hard to have its hooks sink in. Heck, I'd say The Protomen's new release has more of Bruce's essence than Sam's town, and that album is about videogame characters. I will say that I expected Sam's Town to keep some of what made Hot Fuss so good, but they tossed it all away. I'm fine with bands venturing from sound to sound(I prefer it to a band sticking with "what works"), but I do like when there's a tiny bit of consistency in some form. Sam's Town didn't bring it, with the exception of three or so songs. Day & Age was a bit better, but Hot Fuss remains IMHO their best work. The rest of their albums sound way too forced and rigid and, at times, overblown.Black Sabbath's debut (and self-titled) album is (imo) their best as well, though they have many other albums of similar quality.chessmaster1989Really? I found it rather boring, especially when compared to the stuff that came later..
All great suggestions. Although Neon Bible does give Funeral a bit of a run. Not much of one, but a bit.The Strokes - Is This It
The Mars Volta - De-Loused In The Comatorium
The Arcade Fire - Funeral
Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - B.R.M.C.

I will say that Bloc Party's sound has changed enough that their first album really isn't the best example of what they sound like.
