Yea. Where are you from?[QUOTE="KC_Hokie"][QUOTE="DroidPhysX"] which was expected for years.jimkabrhel
What was hoped for by the public and what was expected in legal terms are two very different things. No one expected the court in its current makeup to make sweeping statements about gay marriage.
Yea they did. Whenever the issue of gay marriage was debated people on both sides always said "wait until the prop 8 and DOMA rulings".[QUOTE="jimkabrhel"][QUOTE="KC_Hokie"]Yea. Where are you from?KC_Hokie

[QUOTE="DroidPhysX"][QUOTE="KC_Hokie"]Yea. Where are you from?KC_HokieFrom a land that can predict "no shit sherlock" supreme court cases. Such as prop 8 and DOMA.Both decisions were mixed while only eliminating section 3 of DOMA and ultimately punting the issue back to the states. Not what people were expecting at all on either side of the issue. Have you been looking at graphs of what people were expecting? Maybe that's why you think this.

Easy to say that in hindsight. People were expecting much broader and sweeping decisions.[QUOTE="jimkabrhel"][QUOTE="KC_Hokie"]Yea they did. Whenever the issue of gay marriage was debated people on both sides always said "wait until the prop 8 and DOMA rulings".KC_Hokie

Easy to say that in hindsight. People were expecting much broader and sweeping decisions. Can't really say that I was, but whatever. Nobody in the government is really willing to take all the heat for passing something as sweeping as true equality for all.[QUOTE="KC_Hokie"][QUOTE="jimkabrhel"]Easy to say that in hindsight. the prop 8 ruling dismissed the case and vacated the appeal to the Ninth Circuit Court (federal), meaning the CA district court (state) ruling is upheld

Right, I get that, but what I'm saying is that in the DOMA ruling they're saying that it deprives homosexuals of personhood and restricts their liberties. Â Shouldn't that establish gay marriage as a right for the whole country? Â I get that it doesn't, I'm not getting why.
i think they get around it by saying that once the state determined gays can marry, the Feds cannot discriminate between the marriage of a same-sex couple vs hetero couple. But obviously I'm not a lawyer
I see now. Â I still think that should extend to marriage in general, though, given previous rulings on interracial marriage and the court establishing that restrictions are a form of dicsrimination.
I've been grinning like an idiot for the past hour, mostly because this is going to piss off my family. But while I am very happy about a move in what I think is the right direction, I can't help but be sad that I'm still going to have to move states if I want to get legally married anytime soon. I wish this just wasn't an issue at all. No! Don't go away grin! Today is a day to be happy.IdioticIcaruslol same here (well for the family part) I already sent out a mass text and told some of them they better start embracing those gays :P

My fundy uncle is coming into town pretty soon, I'm sure he'll be ranting about this a good deal (last time he was ranting about how Obama only got elected because he was black). Â I wish I had a smartphone so I could pull up that Palpatine meme whenever he starts to go off.
Took you long enough. We're on page four already, jeezAnd the profanation of marriage continues. :?

Traditional marriage ruined. Baby Jesus weeps. Whore of Babylon grins. It's over, man. It's over. Buy canned food, build a bunker, hide for 20 years kbye.Â

Divorce does damage. And spousal abuse. And Real Housewives shows. Allowing adults who love each other to get married hurts abso-fvcking-lutely no one.

Yup, because ALL gay people do this stuff, while a heterosexual person would never ever consider doing such things.

If there are people taking kids out to a BDSM get-together, it's the fault of the children's guardians and no one else.[QUOTE="AHUGECAT"]

WOT wants to censor what you see then, lmao. Just like the Communists (America is now a communist nation). And this opens the door to bestiality and hebephilia, and quite possibly pedophilia.
