Actually the casualty estimates are so braod that the true number may never be known. A John's Hopkin's university's survey estimate over 650,000 killed while the ORB estimate as much as 1,000,000. The Iraqi Health ministry believes its about 150,000.

the figure i gave is a record of actual, documented deaths, not estimates. anyone can estimate deaths up the wazoo but i'd believe actual numbers to estimates any day. are there be more deaths then what's documented... probably, but i seriously doubt the number is astronomically larger like some of the estimates i've seen.

Did they physically go out in every province and survey every family on how many people they lost? Coalition forces didn't even have control of every province until a few months ago (Anbar province was completely overran by insurgents). This can only mean that the number is a conservative value without taking into account undocumented death.

Did many civilians die because of American forces? Of course. Are the majority of the deaths caused by American forces? Of course not. But I think many blame the huge casualty rate on America because it started the war.

redundant much? anyway the point is that there is no way to know exactly how many civilians have died in iraq so we should go to the next best thing, documented deaths. we shouldn't start making wildly inaccurate estimates about death tolls. as you showed in your post the many estimates can have million person difference from each other and shows how unreliable they can be. facts triumph over estimates any day.

The people ARE nice, I lived in Dubai for 5 years before it became the metropolis it is today, and I can tell you that once you get past the fact that you're woken every morning by a Quran reciting, Arabian people are the some of the nicest people I've ever met, undoubtedly more friendly (and more intelligent) than most Americans I know, and I'm friends with alot of Americans. I also know many Americans who are in fact ashamed to be from the USA, which is a first for me, and it shows something about the state of the US.

But permit me to play devil's advocate and challenge your "suicidal" comment. Nuking Israel would only be suicidal if blame can be directly pinned upon Iran. Iran has repeatedly been accused of working behind the scenes by supplying various groups of insurgents in Iraq. Let's say the primary concern of Israel and the U.S. is not a direct attack from Iran, but rather an indirect one via slipping a device to the sort of whacko who really is that suicidal. Does this diminish our perception of how big a threat they are?

I'm afraid too many people are suceptible to the media, dude. We hear about people in other countries partying down on 9/11 because somebody blew up the big bad Americans, and everybody sort of develops this "everybody hates us" mentality. We don't get to hear about our supporters too much, hate makes better press time.

Wars have always taken their toll on the common people more so than the rulers that lead them. They're the ones that the government draws from to send out to get killed. The ones at home are dehumanized and degraded by other angry commoners-turned-soldiers that were pulled from their lives to fight wars that some idiot ruler started, whether it was their own side or the other is debatable.

Ultimate point here, we're all human beings with loves, fears, hopes and desires. Too many forget that it's not just a big battlefield, it's someone's home - soldiers and leaders both.

where are you getting this stuff from? the website mentions nothing of families needing to identify bodies for it to be counted in the figure. it simply says that they are actual, documented deaths taken from crosschecked media reports, hospitals, morgues, etc. and only encompass civilians that have died through violence. and when you say research proves your 500,000 number you mean it's an estimate. like i said in a previous post, these estimates vary greatly and most are wildly inaccurate. and don't tell me to do my research when you clearly need to do some of your own.

where are you getting this stuff from? the website mentions nothing of families needing to identify bodies for it to be counted in the figure. it simply says that they are actual, documented deaths taken from crosschecked media reports, hospitals, morgues, etc. and only encompass civilians that have died through violence. and when you say research proves your 500,000 number you mean it's an estimate. like i said in a previous post, these estimates vary greatly and most are wildly inaccurate. and don't tell me to do my research when you clearly need to do some of your own.

If Korea and Russia were stronger, they would be more aggressive toward the US. And Russia has been transitioning to the free market for almost 20 years now. The Iranian president says Israel does not have the right to exist. We should take that very seriously. Wars have always been terrible for the common people, and diplomacy is always the favored route, But not when that translates into idleness and appeasement in the face of a very serious threat to the western world.

I respect Iran peoples, they have gone through a lot of changes. I wanted to know more about their revolution so I watched something about the Last Shaw of Iran.

I have a coworker who is half Persian (you could never tell though). He says that the Iranians are proud people who are quite smart and tolerant of other people. But I can't help but wonder why they would choose these extremist Presidents and government leaders then, if they didn't like them. I know the government is corrupt, but Iran is a democracy, and they should have the power to choose.

I just hope that the Iranian people, along with the Turks, will start moving more towards secularism and acceptance, and away from this extremism.
