Religion is what one makes of it. It isn't like she can force you to believe in God.

No. If you had Iraqi parents you'd most likely be muslim. If you had ancient nordic parents you'd be praying to Thor.

She can only force you to pretend and that would be extremely immoral.

yea well she thinks she can. i really dont want to be confirmed in a religion of which i do not believe in and have to go to church and worship to what i believe to be a false god.

Unless she's psychic, I don't think so. I think that if you're at her house, you have to follow her rules. It's only fair.

Uh, yea? I mean sure it's not good when they cram it down their throats but what can you do? Should we give the government power to decide how we raise our kids? That doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

Nope. They CAN make you go to church and pray and such, but what you believe in your heart is your own and no one can change that.

Not force it, but EVERYONE influences what you believe, and your parents do have the right to influence you more than anyone else does.

LOL wtf!? Does that really exist? Don't mean to sound offensive :/

Anyway I believe that parents should keep children away from religion until they are mature enough to make the choice for themselves. Sexuality should not be encouraged nor repressed, just let it develop naturally.

Luncbox1

I lol'd

Of course they can't force you to believe what they do, but you have to understand that they only want you to have what they have. A lot of people find strength and comfort in religion. If that's not your cup of tea then so be it, but try to keep an open mind for their sake ;).

Well honestly if his mother is just making him go to church then that's only a couple hours or so out of his week. He has a Slipknot signature and avatar so I doubt her rules imposed on him are overly strict. She can't force him to believe something and it doesn't sound like she's forcing him to pretend he believes in her religion. Of course I could be totally wrong but the impression I was left with is that she isn't really "forcing a religion" on him, just that she doesn't like him being atheist, which, given her beliefs, is understandable.

Like it or not, your parents provide for you while you are growing up. That comes with certain consequences. If they want you to go to church, you go to church. If they want you to cut the grass, you cut the grass, etc. If you disobey, you pay the consequences. Parents are charged with raising you the best way they know how. Most don't "force" things on you just because they can. They are doing things and making decisions they believe will help you in the long run when you are older. When you are old enough, you choose your own path. Until then, you have to abide by your parents rules, or you can deal with the consequences.

They can force you where to go, like VBS, but not what's in your mind. No offense, but at 15 you still have a lot to learn, let it all take it's course. You may still end up an Atheist 17 or so years from now, like me.

They can make you go to church, but they can't make you truly believe.

There's no way they can control what's inside you. They may not agree, but they can't stop it.

She can force you to pretend to believe and to take part in her customs/rituals/whatever. As far as what you actually believe that's all up to you.

Parents shouldn't have the right to enforce any of that. The only things they should enforce are good values and safety. Clothes, religion, sexuality, beliefs, interests, etc. should not be up to the parent. They can try to teach their ways but if you don't agree then you don't have to do/engage in that particular thing and if the parent forces you than that is just wrong. It's your life and you should make those types of decisions.
