I didn't say I agreed with it (not saying that I don't either), Just that the feeling existed. And gun victims per 100,000 in America = 4, in Britain = 0.15. And I definitely don't want to get ill in your country.

The hospitals here are actually pretty good.

That was just a facetious comment. You are taking this a bit personally though, I couldn't care less what british stereotypes exist in America, and I'm sure there are aspects of Britain you find absurd.

UK healthcare comes at a price as well. There is no free lunch. Don't kid yourself.

4/100,000 vs .15/100,000 doesn't yield a significant deviation and it doesn't take into account the total number of people victimized. It's like comparing the number of cheeseburgers eaten in a day to provide evidence that americans overeat. There is no direct correlation.

Its funny how everyone always laughs at the US but nobody laughs at Ireland even though we have as many if not more problems than the US. We have or we had two big terrorist organisations the IRA and the UVF, we have by far the worst healthcare system in Europe, our schools are overcrowded and are rapidly detiorarating into disorganisation and complete holes(Irish colloquial term for a bad place), despite having unprecedented success with our economy we squandered away all the money and didnt invest in infrastructure which we badly need, we have a leader who is an imbecile and whose financial history has come under a lot of scrutiny recently and most of the people who live here are subject to the herd mentality and are so easily swayed by what they read in tabloids that it is sickening.

[QUOTE="Junkie_man"]There is a feeling in Britain that America is a very scary joke. Healthcare, guns and fundamentalists are the more common focuses. I think the clear majority of people in this country would agree that an NHS is absolutely indespensible, and that it is inexcusable for a developed country not to have one.LJS9502_basic

I don't lke your healthcare....guns are a problem in the UK.....fundies are a minority. None of that is a valid reason. But if it makes you feel better about yourselves....:|

You don't like our healthcare? Is that a fact? :O

No, guns aren't a problem in the UK, knives are. It's very rare that we hear breaking news about gun murders.

Dont you know? When their arguing against america, EVERYTHING is free, better, sexier, more fair, and more fun EVERYWHERE ELSE, so, no... they dont pay, it most defiantly does not come from their taxes, all the equipment is donated from companies that dont care about profit, all the doctors work for free (and moonlight in America to pay for their bills).

Anyway, you can laugh at the big guy all you want, but do you ever take it further than that?

The news channels in the USA air the stupidest stories. Right now on MSNBC they have a "Breaking News Story" of a house on fire in Oregon. As if Americans have never seen a building on fire...

The people running for president are complete imbeciles who have no solutions to real problems.

The U.S. dollar is being inflated to the point of bankruptcy...

Our current president is a wimp and never talks about what's important, but instead focuses on more B.S.

I would have to imagine that even Canada is now laughing at the U.S.

FearTheRain

well, lets take europe for example

they can laugh all they want but they have a government that has way more power over the people than ours does. and even though they have a stronger currency, were still the super power they are not.

actually it isnt irrelevant.

one, america is how many times larger?

you cant even own a gun in the UK

most of the gun crimes in this country is a result of stolen weapons or smuggled ones.

dont act like people owning guns is somehow bad, because everyone thinks you're naive.

Not at all. I live in Northern Ireland and if I had a choice, I'd move to America because there's many problems in Northern Ireland and I'm sure America would be much better. I also can't see N.I getting better, it's actually getting worse. :(

super_mario_128

As I said it was the first hit....however, it does prove gun crime increased in the UK. And again with the population difference...there will be more crime. That would be logic. However, an increase is not a good thing....especially with all the bragging in this thread about the gun control in the UK. If gun control works...how is crime increasing?

Didn't decrease.

What part of gun crime victims in America per 100,000 = 4 in Britain = 0.15 are you not getting? That's 30 times more gun crime in America!

H8sMikeMoore

What part of gun crime is on the rise in the UK don't you get?

The fact that a rise is completely irrelevent to this conversation. It is still 30 times lower than in America.

actually it isnt irrelevant.

one, america is how many times larger?

you cant even own a gun in the UK

most of the gun crimes in this country is a result of stolen weapons or smuggled ones.

dont act like people owning guns is somehow bad, because everyone thinks you're naive.

1. Explain how.

2. Statistics per 100,000 people, accounting for differences in size. I thought I had made that pretty clear.

3. Evidence please?

4. Something needs changing if the difference between crime rates is that high. Ownership of guns is bad when idiots get hold of them, something I find more likely if there is no ban (A ban would not apply to all types of gun, shotguns longer than 2 ft are legal in Britain, for example, so very necessary and legitamate uses would still be allowed. I know my school stores rifles for its Combined Cadets Force).

That would stand to reason with the difference in population.;)

Failed.

You have to show a correlation...which you didn't. That is two different statements...not related. Failed.;)

So, as junkie_man was saying, since gun crime is30 times worse in America than it is in the UK, you have no right to criticize us over that matter.

LJS9502_basic

As I said it was the first hit....however, it does prove gun crime increased in the UK. And again with the population difference...there will be more crime. That would be logic. However, an increase is not a good thing....especially with all the bragging in this thread about the gun control in the UK. If gun control works...how is crime increasing?

Didn't decrease.

With what I proved with my last post, the whole "population difference" arguement doesn't work. And I never said that this increase was a good thing, I'm just saying that our gun crime is hardly a fraction of what it is in the US (Joy, I'm repeating myself) so you shouldn't criticize us based on those figures.

True there but we still haven't had any major incidents involving firearms and who knows it gun crime would be higher or lower now if the gun ban hadn't been enforced.

I laugh at the stereotype that all Americans are stupid but am mature enough to recognise that it is not true.

The survey showed that per 100,000, America suffers 30 times more gun-crime than Britain. So the population difference doesn't matter in regards to that survey.

4/100000=.004% .15/100000=.00015

Neither offer a significant amount. Congratulations! You've spent god knows how much to disarm the innocent and falsely correlate it to lowering an insignificant number to an even less significant number. UK has all the answers and is a utopia! We were fools to worry about taxation without representation! We want back under the queens petty coat!! Please, Please, Please England! Come rule us again!

You have actually not provided any proof. You took a statement someone else said and attempted to make it fit.
