It is hard to accomplish much in life these days, too much red tape, greed and anal bureaucrats with their lawyers ready to bring you down for daring to be more than society forces you to be.
Happiness is the highest form of wisdom. Logically speaking, someone could be a pathetic loser from the viewpoint of a lot of outside people, but if they're ultimately extremely happy then they're winners at life.nocoolnamejim

Just so I'm clear on your viewpoint, if someone lives in their grandma's basement rolling around in their own poop while sucking on broken glass-but they are ultimatly extremely happy...thats a winner?I never saw documentaries that portray that, it depends really. I win at games sometimes but I'm not a loser, I'm not where I want to be at life right now exactly as I am college student, but games are a fun part of my life and I enjoy them immensely.
But like anything some people can take them too far, I know a guy who doesn't do anything, he just lives off of welfare with his GF and smokes pot and plays games all day, he doesn't work or anything, just get's mooches off others and spens what little money he has on games and pot.
Not a good life to live if you ask me, that's not enjoying life or making anything of it, that's basically like dying in my eyes. Games do have some health benefits like improved brain fucntions and faster reaction times, and RTS games improve criticle thinking and planning skills.
But everything in moderation is the lesson.

General Education, I am so hopeless. I study but it just all goes over my head. I study for hours and play around for hours and I do not get much sleep. I am making Cs in most my classes but will be losing my scholarship. I tried contacting the navy but they ignored me so I can not get into ROTC this late I think. I can not complain to much because it is brought on by myself and is noone elses fault.[QUOTE="nocoolnamejim"]Happiness is the highest form of wisdom. +1No, pro gamers who can sustain their lifestyle just with gaming aren't 'failing at life', more like winning completely. Better than having a 'real' job.Inconsistancy
That is a real job it takes serious effort and skill to be a pro so much so it takes the fun out of it.

True, but how many people in the world realistically fall into that group out of all high level players?
For most games there might be two or three players at the very pinnacle of competition who actually sustain themselves with it. The rest either don't need to have a job for some reason or devote every hour of their time off to the game.
most of my time is spent gameing i have a job moved into a apt at 18 and have a gf living with me.i too im competative. whats that tell you?
I game quite a bit.I would game a lot less if I had more friends where I live and my friends lived closer.I don't have much of a social life after school anymore :(.
Some people have Video Games as their professional job. They HAVE to play that much so they can keep the partnerships with sites like YouTube, Twitch.tv and their Sponsors (sure they make some money if they win the tournaments, but it's not enough to sustain them so having these partnerships/sponsors is crucial)... Some of these pro-gamers even have wives/husbands, with kids, paying for their house and what not.
Of course there are those that play for hours on end and are just lazy bums with no jobs that mooch money off parents/siblings or significant others.
I personally play games quite a lot. Mostly with friends with Skype. Some of them are in school, others work/married.

If they truly enjoy life as it is and are truly happy then yes, their life is better then any one of us working jobs we absolutely hate just to get by. Of course if your mooching and ruining other peoples lives to selfishly fuel your own happiness that's not a winner in my eyes. but to each his own I guess.Happiness is the highest form of wisdom. I would consider any happy person a winner.
Most of the top rated players I played with on WoW are now well educated and in a relationship, but I also saw elitist players doing nothing but gaming, so it's kind of 50/50 for me. Gaming is a tempting hobby for people who want to slack their way through life, so I guess that's where that point of view comes from.
