I have no reason to attack you for not "believing in" evolution, but I hope you know that by calling it "bull$hit," you pretty much committed social suicide at GameSpot.

Don't bother arguing with him about it, he showed a few months ago that he not only lies a lot but that he is incapable of critical thinking and grasping basic scientific concepts and terms.

Yes, because having faith, my own opinion and ideas obviously means I lie and I don't understand science. :|

I'm just waiting for everyone to get butthurt and suddenly pull their science degrees out of their @rse and start telling me what we all evolved from monkeys.

Er, no one with a degree in biological sciences is going to say we evolved from monkeys. It's kind of bigoted to say you don't accept evolution when you don't understand it, don't you think?

I do understand the theories. I just use the monkey concept to remind evolutionsts that their good old friend Darwin had that idea in the first place.

And care to tell me how you understand the statement then? It's been disproved we don't share the same "ancestors" as monkeys.

Our genome is 98% similar to that of a chimpanzee. And what study do you have that certainly disproves it, without question?

Do I believe in evolution being the way how human beings and other animals came to be? Yes.

And care to tell me how you understand the statement then? It's been disproved we don't share the same "ancestors" as monkeys.ShadowsDemon

The burden of proof lies upon you to show that a large percentage of archaelogists, paleontologists and evolutionary scientists hold such a view. Because it is commonly held by scientists that the Australopithecus is one of the major points where human beings began to develop as a completely different species the great apes.

And no, please don't strawman and misquote Darwin saying that we evolved from monkeys.

Because we aren't monkeys right now (at least I'm not) If we did share the same ancestor then why are monkeys still around, or did they just randomly decide to "branch off"? Besides, considering that fruit flies share 93%, how come we ain't fruit flies? :|

Wrong.

For example, a March 2000 study comparing the fruit fly genome with the human genome discovered that about 60 percent of genes are conserved between fly and human.

Wow....just....wow.....you really were never taught basic biology and such in school then....we did NOT evolve from apes....we were once SIMILAR to them, sharing a similar ANCESTOR. Used to have a lot more hair, walked hunched over like them, etc.

I said we share a common ancestor, not "We are monkeys." That's idiotic. That's like saying chocolate ice cream is not ice cream becauce vanilla ice cream is still around... It's very possible for multiple variants of the same species to coexist. What makes you think that they can't? We do not avidly hunt monkeys, so there why would our evolution as a race present any specific cause for them to go extinct? That is just silly. I mean, by that logic, how can we exist when our parents still exist? :?

Also, I did not say we share 93% of our genetic code with fruit flies, I said we share 92% with mice and 44% with fruit flies. Although I have seen estimates of up to even 60%, the source I listed says otherwise. However, 60% is probably more accurate.

My whole family thinks I'm nuts because I believe in the single cell -> complex life method of evolution. As far as I'm concerned, it's a scientific certianty that's evidenced by the fossil record and DNA analysis.

But then again, my whole family is so conservative that they bleed red...err..fvck....I mean...they bleed Sean Hannity Serum. There's no getting through to them...as far as they are concerned, anyone who proposes evidence of evolution is attacking their faith-based beliefs and values.

How do you stand on this matter, OT? What say you?

br0kenrabbit

i believe that a guy running around with a king tarpon on his head, who makes wild claims that the earth is the center of the universe, the sun revolves around the earth, the earth is flat and if you sail too far you'll fall off the edge is right about everything. he's right about everything, including me giving him my land, propety and soul just because he's the king fishead of the fishead cult of ancient superstitious everything ancient.

i don't want to get locked up in a dungeon for being a crazy heretic... he's right. i'm wrong.

and i also trust the government and believe everything they tell me to believe.

i also believe everythingi'm taught in school, everything i see, hear and read. i do not think for myself.

the internet and all the news agencies support what they want me to accept as fact so i do because i'm patriotic and part of a political party who doesn't give a ratsass about me.

i have it all figured out.

maybe the guy with the king tarpon on his head uncovered the bones and told everyomne they were dragons of ancient times and tricked them into giving him all their wealth and property to keep them safe from the evil dragons. he also can make the nile river rise and fall it has nothing to do with gravity, annual rainfall or the moon. it'd also rumored he can create chaos and keep order with his golden magic staff.

be caareful if that guy or one of his secret army members discovers you know the truth about him he might label you as a heretic and throw you into he dungeon beneath the monastery where he will proceed to torture you until you accept he love of his jesus.

yes i believe in evolution. i asked my girlfriend if she believed in evolution, and she said "i didn't come from a damn monkey, i know that" and i tried to explain to her that evolution doesn't say we came from monkeys, just that we share a common ancestor and there was a split sometime in the past. but she's christian so we all know how those types usually are.

please explain how that works?

God created humans directly. Monkeys eventually evolved into the hominid species that predate human existence.

Why would he create everything else on the planet via evolution, but not humans?

well in the old testament it says God created humans blah blah blah, and God created animals with their "own kind" whatever that means. I'm still wondering why I can't reproduce with monkeys if they are supposedly my great ancestors?
