[QUOTE="Ace6301"]Of course. Personally I find it somewhat difficult to disbelieve in something I've witnessed. Also I love these topics, easily one of the most entertaining "controversial" subjects to witness the discussion of. You can really tell an awful lot about a person based on their stance.kingkong0124
You haven't witnessed macro evolution. You're not 1,000,000 years old.

Define for me this "macro" evolution. Do you mean one species becoming another? If so I have witnessed such a thing. At any rate "macro" evolution is a misnomer as "macro" evolution is just "micro" evolution observed over many generations. Thankfully microorganisms have extremely short generations. But I suppose to you microorganisms don't count since they disprove your stance, right? As for humans we actually can trace our evolution pretty much completely now, we're not some god send. We just won the evolutionary lottery, so to speak.

[QUOTE="MattDistillery"]Appendix, something that is useless and sometimes blows up an kills peopleCaptain52
The Appendix is definitely useless, I should know since I had to get mine taken out a little over 4 and a half years ago.

I think I read some time ago that the appendix harbors good bacteria, so when your gut is infesting with bad bacteria it can re-populate with the good stuff. Lemme see if I can find it. Yup, here you go.

Also, the coccyx helps open the birth canal during childbirth. I could probably look that up too, but my ice cream is melting. :)

[QUOTE="l4dak47"][QUOTE="kingkong0124"][QUOTE="l4dak47"] iirc, we had a common ancestor with chimpanzees. We didn't directly evolve from one.

Ok. *Show me evidence that a common ancestor between us and chimpanzees evolved into a hominid thousands of years ago.

http://humanorigins.si.edu/evidence/genetics/ancient-dna-and-neanderthals

"The Neanderthal mtDNA sequences were substantially different from modern human mtDNA (Krings et al. 1997, 1999). This is consistent with the idea that Neanderthals did not contribute substantially to modern human genome." Either way, you still didn't observe these long term changes yourself, so it's all essentially non conceptual and imaginary.

Microorganisms are in a completely different ball game. You can't compare apples and oranges. Yes, they are living things, but bacteria function much differently than humans.

Every time someone proves you wrong your ONLY argument is 'well that doesn't count'. I think it is pointless to argue with someone as brainwashed as you. Even if your god let you live for a billion years you still wouldn't believe in evolution, because your little story book tells you otherwise.

If humans never evolved and were created, you better send a letter to scientists and doctors around the world telling them to stop using mouse as a model organism for immunology, cancer studies, and medical research.

He clearly doesn't know what hes talking about. There is no scientific evidence what so ever to suggest humans were never evolved from anything and there will never be any.

I am glad people like kingkong are not apart of the field of biological sciences. It would literally set us back 100 years+ in medical research. Our immune system would not making any fing sense without evolution.

[QUOTE="kingkong0124"][QUOTE="Ace6301"][QUOTE="kingkong0124"] Microorganisms are in a completely different ball game. You can't compare apples and oranges. Yes, they are living things, but bacteria function much differently than humans.

Ah, I was correct.

What makes you think that because you observed this in bacteria that it will be the same in humans?

The functionality of evolution works the same between single celled creatures and larger more complex creatures. Genes are passed on and their performance in an environment dictates the ability of those genes to be passed on. Occasionally an event will occur in an area where several sets of genes exist and because of circumstances caused by those events a certain genetic advantage may be the difference between life and death and as such that set of genes is left while the others are killed. This group may one day leave this area and meet a group that has a common ancestor.

With humans it's a little bit more complicated since we're smarter but the functionality is the same. Blue eyes for instance are a good example since they're actually a very recent addition to the human gene pool and though they're technically a disadvantage they've spread because people generally find them attractive. All a person really is is a certain combination of DNA telling things to form what you are, we're not very different from everything else. So it's not really comparing apples to oranges but more comparing one type of apple to another type.

As for humans being a god send: God must be really poorly made if we're in his image. I mean we're really bad at pretty much everything except thinking and running for extended periods of time. It's "fortunate" that we committed genocide on Neanderthals to rid our selves of our only real competition.

Christianity was quite the same. Didn't you know that?

Used to you'd be executed if you held to the old Celtic ways, for instance. "She be a witch! Suffer not a witch to live! FIRE AND BRIMSTONE!"

[QUOTE="kingkong0124"] You're embracing to superstition as well. Here you are, believing what these scientists tell you because of their credentials. You've never experienced evolution. You've never seen the evidence firsthand. That's an appeal to authority itself. The funny thing is, humans have been around for 30,000+ years, yet we haven't evolved into a brand new species. kingkong0124

No, I'm putting stock in evidence that I can see with my own eyes. You're putting faith in ancient poetic tales written by sheep herders who thought a cold sore was a sign of God's anger.

And we haven't evolved into a new species because 30,000 years if too short a time span for such drastic changes to happen. We have, nonetheless, evolved recently. Take blonde hair, for example - that has only come about in the last few thousand years.

You saw blonde hair coming about?

I can observe blonde hair. I know it exists. I have blond hair myself, so that really helps the credibility there. Also natural blonde hair is relatively rare amongst the human population, which points to it being a fairly recent mutation. Now show me one piece of physical evidence for God. Just one example.

More intelligent and thoughtful than your bullsh*t will ever be.

 And you guys all lose your cool when ever I dare to express my beliefs or opinions.

Because your "opinion" has no factual background Its very hard to have a disucssion with, "I believe this because you guys are wrong"

Science is the opposite of illogical. It has evidence backing it up. Religion has "faith"

Show me evidence that a chimpanzee evolved into a hominid thousands of years ago. Seems to me like it's simply "filling in the blanks".

The fossil record?

Why go into a deeper response when the previous post was that stupid?

imo, if you don't believe in it, you either haven't studied it or you're completely blind and ignorant. there's simply too much evidence supporting it, and nothing that disproves it.Sword-Demon

the bible disproves it good sir.

It's like listening to a mentally challenged kid constantly saying that he's right when CLEARLY he's wrong. Gets annoying after a while.

Then don't listen to it if you can't accept that other people have different opinions other than your own. :|

An opinion isn't usually is a stance on something that is subjective....this topic is not subjective.

You neglect the scientific method, you neglect to show proof, you strawman things to death ("HURRDURR Y DERE STILL MONKEYS HURRDURR" even though Darwin and modern Biologists will never say we evolved from what we know as monkeys), you pull bullcrap out of the air (such as "OH WE HAVE 90% SAME DNA AS FRUIT FLIES Y WE NO FRUIT FLIES") whilst pushing forward your opinion as scientific truth.

How can we not get pissed off at that?
