Apparently, my European friend told me most people in Europe drive manuals/sticks, and their driving test is done in sticks, not automatic, Unlike in the states where most driving schools have the students driving automatics. That said, what do you drive? Do you have any preference? Manual is usually more fun/rewarding to drive than an automatic.

Automatic. I know at some point I'll learn to drive manual, probably out on the farm or something in one of the farm trucks, but for now I'm sticking with automatics because I like them better because they're easier for me. Less shifting means less to think about.

Auto

I live in the City with lots of traffic lights and stops. Having manual tran would be brutal.

Either one, it's all the same to me ;).

Personally I drive automatic out of convenience. But I've worked jobs where the trucks/machinery are all manual, and my job involved driving one of them all day long.

Automatic. I don't know how to drive a stick. I'm not an automobile man. So long as it gets me from A to B it's fine.

Automatic.

i know the essentials to drive manual, i practice occasionally in my sisters car, but it takes me a couple seconds to get going once i have stopped. waiting for the clutch or whatever to grab, then give it some gas so i start moving. i do horrible on hills though. i kill it alot:P i dont see myself driving a manual though. i always forget to shift.:P

Both. My 370Z is a manual, and my Jetta is an automatic. But I drive the former more, so I voted manual.

I work on and drive classic cars, I myself prefer automatic transmissions. Standards are fun and are generally better in towing situations as automatic transmissions internal clutches and valve body heats up during towing and that can be rough on them. Like mentioned most older cars had 2-3 speed auto's. So rebuilding takes a weekend so I prefer automatics as I can rebuild them quick and they are easier on you when driving in stop and go traffic. Some may chime in that standards are better for racing. I can jam my c4 automatic through the gears without the need of using a clutch with the benefit of choosing the shift points as standard would. You can also install shift kits and tighten the clutch bands, thus making shifts tighter/quicker ...but, standards generally last longer between rebuilds and again can hold up during heavy towing. ---my 2 cents----

I have an automatic car right now, but I think Im getting a manual car pretty soon (or at least I want to). Ive never driven a stick, but it shouldn't be too hard. The car I might get is a Prelude, so it would probably be fun to drive.

Automatic. Whenever Im in a car with ANYONE who drives Manual, I always feel them changing gears and I go back and forth in my seat. Talk about motion sickness/annoyance. I dont care how cool or "fun" it is. I hate having to think about changing gears, that sucks. Just get me from A to B comfortably and safely.

Manual for me. I love driving and manual is way more fun; whenever I drive automatic I feel like the car is driving itself. Besides, if you can only drive automatic, you don't really know how to drive.

Automatic I haven't had much experience with manuals. I gave it a shot recently when I was visiting family in England...didn't turn out too well. I don't know where I would go to drive a manual here. No one has them. Hell, my sister is going to Missouri (we live in NC) to learn to drive a manual because that's the only one accessible to her.

Manual and I fail to understand the traffic argument. How is it harder/tiresome to drive manual in traffic? You get so used to driving with the clutch/stick that you don't have to think about what you're actually doing and for me at least and most other people I know, it's as easy to stop and go in a manual car than an auto car and I feel that I can coast along more easily with a slow moving traffic in a manual car than in an auto one.

I know how to drive both, but the car I drive right now is an automatic because I wasn't specifically seeking a manual. I'd be fine in either, though.

I drive a manual and if i'm not in back to back traffic I love it. But after going manual for so long it's a refresh to drive a automatic.

Clutch, Brake, Gas, Clutch, Brake, Gas, Clutch, Shift, ClutchBrake.. It is not fun at all to drive in rush hour with a manual especially when you got idiot drivers who don't know how to creep. If everyone understood how to keep the traffic flowing then it wouldn't be a problem.

You should have included a third option in the poll - a combo transmission, as my car has both auto and manual. I've also driven trucks with up to 18-speed transmissions, they are a lot of fun to drive.:P
