Generally no, but I hated the original Total Recall. Just because I hate a movie doesn't mean that I want a remake, but the story is a good one and the concept for a good movie is there, it just got ruined by REALLY cheesy special effects and Arnold. So yeah, looking forward to TR.

I don't hate it myself...I just consider it inferior to the Howard Hawks film.

In the trailer for the new one, I think there was a hooker saying "you'll wish you had three hands" or something like that.

To call them actors is a stretch.

But anyone who hates Arnie and his films just needs to take a good look at themselves in the mirror and introspect.

Also, Scarface is one of these movies people like to dislike for some reason, i quite like it myself.

The issue with Scarface is that it gets overrated to all hell. There is also that issue of wannabe gangsters worshipping Montana as some sort of idol....

Really, the only thing that movie has going for it is Al Pacino's acting. Beyond that it is just another "meh" gangster movie...

It depends on what they are remaking, and how good the movie was. For instance, Total Recall will of course have better action and special effects because of the advancement in technology, but I reckon it won't be as awesome as the original. I loved that Schwarzenegger classic!

The Bourne Legacy is continuing the series, right?

Pirate700

Yes.

But, it's not right with the timeline of the movie. I mean in The Bourne Ultimatum the fat guy who introduces Jason to the program is arrested along with the dude from the CIA since the files from the program were revealed publicly. In this movie the fat guy appears introducing Jeremy's character to the program too, wouldn't this be SORT of a reboot, or something in between the first and third movies? It's complicated lol.

Did you know that the universally celebrated 'Wizard of Oz' from 1939 was not only an adaptation of the book, but also no less than the 7th film made of the book?

The industry seems to be taking very little chances these days. I guess sticking to what sells is in full swing everywhere....everything is copycat. With that said ......Oz does look like it will be interesting thou. And i would like to see a "Ghost busters" re-make too. With today's tech that flick would be awesome. Just make it a little more serious... Not so much a comedy.

It would totally ruin what made the original film great in the first place...the fact that it was first and foremost, a comedy. Besides, they've been trying to get a third film made for years, and it still hasn't happened yet.

Whether I enjoy a remake or not really depends on the film. That said, it's nothing I'm against and I don't think a remake will ruin a classic. A lot of the classics are remakes anyways.

I do, especially when the writer and director have more freedom and creativity when it comes to using CGI in movies that wasnt available prior to the early 90s.

Here's the thing--there is no Ash character in this version; besides, the ass-kicking Ash really didn't emerge until Evil Dead 2 anyway. This is an re-interpretation of the first film, which was played as a straight horror film. There's supposed to be a strong female character who's supposed to stand against the demons in this one.

Would you rather they add someone to play Ash and have them mess it up? I understand the reasoning behind why they did that. Besides, they have the original creators as producers, so I imagine they have some influence on the final product. I would hope, anyway.

Honestly, I just don't even know why they are doing a remake in the first place ESPECIALLY without Ash.

I mean, Ash IS Evil Dead, plain and simple. The first movie totally pales in comparison to #2 IMO mainly BECAUSE Ash isn't his awesome self in the first movie. Really, that series worked so much better as dark humor than a horror movie IMO.

IDK, they just really need to show me awesomeness to get me on board seeing as I freaking LOVE Evil Dead 2 soooo much!

That's the thing--they're not going for the vibe they had for the second film, but shooting for the low budget, straight-out horror feel of the first. Hell, the second film was actually a remake of the first. I think the creators know that part 2 on were the better ones, so why not let them redo the one that was "just ok"? Besides, I think I'd rather them just pass on trying to re-make a character that is so iconic to a lot of fans, than have them attempt to do so and endure the non-stop comparisons to Bruce Campbell. I may be alone on this, but that's just me.

Ghost Busters could have been so much better. Remake with new cast and characters is what I want. Just make it a little more badass. Imo, the comedy in the original movie/s wasn't that funny. I think if they did a more modern version they should concentrate more on the action parts. some funny moments here and there is good enough, perhaps have slimer (or another ghost) as the comic relief. I doubt the cast would remain the same...all the more reason why I think they'll have a better chance making it an action flick. You can hire just about anyone to do some badass stuff but comedy is suggestive and harder to pull off than most people think. I can't think of another remake movie that would benifit more with todays technology.

I know, I know.

I really liked what they did with the Peter Vincent character and David Tennant's involvement made it that much more fun in my opinion. Colin Farrell made a really good Jerry, too. The original has it's merits, I'll admit, but I think they did a great job on the remake.

To make Ghostbusters as anything than a comedy would be like taking the original Godfather film and trying to remake it as an action film--it wouldn't work, and it would do a HUGE disservice to the original film, not to mention the backlash from both fans and the original filmmakers. This wasn't just another movie, it was one of the highest grossing comedies of its time and a pop culture phenomenon that is still popular to this day.

The writers, Dan Ackroyd and Harold Ramis, weren't just actors, they were successful comedians/writers. Ackroyd got his start on SNL, and Ramis co-wrote some of the most memorable comedies ever--Animal House, Caddyshack, Stripes and Back To School. The director, Ivan Reitman is a very successful producer and comedic director. And of course, there's Bill Murray, one of the greatest comedic actors ever.

You're right when you say comedy is suggestive and is harder to pull off than most people think--which is one of the reasons the studio hasn't made a theatrical follow-up to this movie since 1989. This isn't just another movie for Sony to reboot, this is a tentpole franchise for them--spawning two cartoon series, books, comics, a video game and merchandising out the ying yang. They are not going to risk changing what made this movie a hit in the first place by making it what's it not.

[QUOTE="bnarmz"] Ghost Busters could have been so much better. I can't think of another remake movie that would benifit more with todays technology.Hallenbeck77

To make Ghostbusters as anything than a comedy would be like taking the original Godfather film and trying to remake it as an action film--it wouldn't work, and it would do a HUGE disservice to the original film, not to mention the backlash from both fans and the original filmmakers. http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=81518 I don't think my hopes is shattered just yet. As far as the comedy goes...it's really a non issue. I'm sure if it's remade it will be modernized with pleanty of Awe inspiring moments and a bit of funny ones as well. Just make the flick and I'll support it.

TOTAL RECALL is releasing this Friday, but i'm not sure if the movie'll be better than Arnold Schwarzenneger's original movie from 90's.

Hollywood also remade some classi'c 80's movies as FOOTLOOSE, FRIGHT NIGHT, THE THING etc recently.KING KONG comes to mind as well. They also remade and remaking movies from outside America like LET THE RIGHT ONE IN, THE GRUDGE, THE RING especially for American audience.

Thing is do you enjoy "remake" movies or prefer original version as it is?

Personally i prefer original version.I really hate when they remake and ruin classi'c movies.

9 times out of 10, the remakes are cheap garbage meant to cash in on a fad or another person's movie. In general, I avoid remakes like the plague, but every so often you get something that is a truly important reshaping of a classic idea or movie premise. The Thing and to a lesser extent, King Kong both come to mind.

Also lol at Colin Farrell. And why is Kate Beckinsale in this movie? I'd rather just watch the original again.

Ackroyd's been trying for a third one for years, so this is nothing new. They went through countless screenwriters for a third film, and they jus got rid of their latest set to bring in another one. Until the studio officially gives the green light, I'd take this with a grain of salt. Besides, the story is just a bit out of date.

Because her husband is the director,, that' my guess..

It depends on whether the movie still stands up today so doesn't need to be remade. Robocop, The Thing, and Total Recall didn't need to be remade.

It also depends on whether the remake actually brings something new to the table.

They remade the poseidon adventure not too long ago, it was called simply Poseidon.
