Pretty much. It scares me that there are people around who show that flag and support it. I really associate it with Neo Nazis in a way...

What he said.

That flag is used for so many rascist groups(I read somewheres that it's around 500) and where I used to live the rascist people always had it on their cars and stuff. It pisses me off.

The flag doesn't bother me, the people that use it as an object for racist groups bother me. To me the many people who only use it to express southern pride doesn't bother me, most are really nice people. I have one, but it's an Obituary tour shirt, I don't use it outside seeing as alot of people don't tolerate it.

Still dosn't change that fact you could make a huge list of things America has done and they say "see this is what their flag represents". I just feel people are to quick to jump and call the flag racist.

I don't think the South ever wanted to take over the United States, just make them recognize the Confederacy's independence.

It represents my heritage, good and bad. Slavery was a terrible time in human history, but people forget that the Confederates were not the only people to have slaves. People forget that the reasons for the Northern opposition to slavery was based more on economics than it was on a concern for black people's rights. Lincoln himself though blacks to be inferior. The only reason the North did not have slaves was because the plantations were in the South, not because they cared about black people. The evidence of that rests in the fact that blacks did not get the rights they deserved for almost another 100 years. Southern slavery, however terrible, was out of economic necessity. This country would not be what it is today without it. Never would I even attempt to justify slavery; only to understand it. Furthermore, people act as if the Confederate flag was the only one that represented slavery. The slave trade started under the French and Portuguese flags. Should they have to take theirs down? Should the Russians have to take down their flags because of what Lenin and Stalin did? Hell no. I am a nephew of General Stonewall Jackson, second in command of the Confederate Army. Jackson himself was known throughout the South as a friend of the black man, and was the very first person to allow black people in his cIasses at the Virginia Military Institute. He owned slaves, but he only bought them to keep them from being separated because they were a family. He treated them well, and only expected them to do things that his wife was incapable of while he was away. After his slaves were freed, they returned to his wife's home of their own free will. People who claim that I am ingorant for waiving the flag are themselves ignorant. It does represent a dark time in history, but also hundreds of years of my heritage. These racist groups that wave the flag are idiots, and it sickens me to see them use it. They have no idea what it truly represents. Don't get me wrong: I'm no racist and I am glad that the Union army won the Civil War. I love my country and am glad that it is unified. But I am not going to take down my flag, and there's going to be a fight if someone tries to make me.

The rebel flag is more anti- government than anti-black. I in fact know a black man who keeps several rebel flags in his house. It is because he hates the idea of strong central government that he (and his family) keeps it.

im gonna use the logic shown in this topic to make a judgment about the american flag, to me the american flag represents blood shed and tears that were shed for a meaningless war, it represents government corruption and government cover up, and over all it represents a commercialized society where people care more about money then they do moral, this is supposed to be a time where things are supposed to be more advanced and easier, but yet more people are homeless then ever before, more people die for meaningless reasons, this isnt a step forward, this is a step backwards and a shamefull one at that

I think that at this point, 150 years after the civil war, the flag represents a desire to reacquire the features of the South that divided it from the North... slavery obviously being the most pertinent.

If you want to get into problems we have here in the US, I think the big issue is the lack of care for our fellow Americans. We tend to be viewed as such a patriotic country, yet it seems people really don't give a **** about their fellow Americans. If you want proof, try and raise taxes. You will get objections all over. Here in Michigan, we SHOULD be raising taxes to start putting up new institutions for the mentally ill (which I may remind you severely mentally ill people account for the majority of the homeless.). It is pathetic that we just threw so many people on the streets who needed nothing more than help with their head.

Throwing money at problems doesn't work. Name me five government institutions that function as they're intended to. Public schools? Social Security? Disability? Medicare? Welfare? Yeah. I'll bet the only one you can come up with is the USPS, and that's only because they're required to turn a profit now.

I don't have a problem with the flag. I have a problem with the way "certain" people use it. People who associate it with Southern Pride is just fine to me. But when the flag is used for racism by the KKK for example, then theres a problem.

Public mental health institutions are a Godsend. They are the only way most people can get help. Here in Michigan you either have to be rich, have incredible insurance, or okay insurance that is willing to send you when you are on the brink of disaster but will discharge you as soon as you are semi-stable. I believe to get into an eating disorder clinic my friend actually has to be below a certain weight.....

They should have never been taken down in the first place. But as mentioned God forbid we spend money on anything useful. I guess we are just gonna have to continue blowing all our money on useless military expeditions. Guess thats just eh American way....
