Nothing but hate... It's no different than flying a Nazi flag.

I don't care if your grandfather was Hitler there is no reason to fly the flag, or have pride in it.

What do YOU think the flag represents?

Ilived

Rebellion, followed by division (separation).

As for the title question itself, not really.

TallicaFan2005
By that logic, there is no reason to have pride in any flag. Every single nation on the planet has done something in the past that they're not proud of. The French and Portuguese started the slave trade in the first place. So now is it wrong to waive a French flag?

There is no reason to be proud in a piece of cloth. Ah, ideals. Long live the Lucifer Principle.

I think that a flag is just a piece of cloth. There is no value in any flag outside of whatever value you put into it as an individual. Personally, I see no value in the rebel/confederate flag. I'm not from the South, and my family isn't from the South. If someone views that piece of cloth as a symbol of their heritage or their homeland, then I don't see any problem with that. If I wanted to raise the flag of Ohio because I'm from Ohio, I'd like to be able to have the right to do so. On the other hand, if people view that piece of cloth as a sign of racism and hatred, and use it to express some sort of view of white power or white superiority, I think that they're wrong. A flag cannot really be banned, however, because the flag has no value outside of the value we put into it.

Nope, I've lived in Georgia too long to have a problem with it. The South was terrible about slavery and segregation and all, but most people need to realize racism in the North was (and still is as far as the KKK is concerned) equal to or greater than racism in the South. Also, the North started almost as many problems before the war as the South.

im gonna use the logic shown in this topic to make a judgment about the american flag, to me the american flag represents blood shed and tears that were shed for a meaningless war, it represents government corruption and government cover up, and over all it represents a commercialized society where people care more about money then they do moral, this is supposed to be a time where things are supposed to be more advanced and easier, but yet more people are homeless then ever before, more people die for meaningless reasons, this isnt a step forward, this is a step backwards and a shamefull one at that

Eh the South had every right to succeed from the Union, they joined it willingly and they certainly should have been able to withdraw peacefully, whatever their reasons were.

Kenya...

PROOF!

Kenyan men now hold world records in the 3000-meter track race, the 15-, 20-, and 25-kilometer road races, the half-marathon, and the marathon. Kenyan men have won 13 of the last 14 Boston marathons. Kenyan women are also rising fast: They hold half of the top 10 marathon times and world records in 20-, 25-, and 30-km track races.

I think it represents being a redneck. And whats even worse is that all the hicks in my highschool had it on their belt buckles, shirts, tattoos, crappy trucks and everything else, and I live in Washington state. I asked one of them one time why they wear that crap, and he said "It signifies pride". He has never lived in the south, and last I checked, Washington State is not in the south......

I have a huge problem with the Confederate flag. I don't like how it's represented and I typically don't like the people that I associate the flag with. However, it's their right to wear the flag as they see it and I know that not everyone who has a Confederate flag is a bigoted Southern racist.

Agreed. But I treat people who fly or have a flag on their car differently, generally with less respect. Move on, it's been 130 years, we lost. By the way I'm a white male born and bred in Arkansas.

I don't like it. Not because of what I think of it (I'm Canadian so I don't have strong feelings either way) but because there are obviously some people who are offended by it. Its like using a swastika; sure it can mean peace, but why bother opening that can of worms?

I don't care. Its just a piece of cloth with some symbols on it. And as for people who hang the flag. Well I can't exactly tell them to take it down. The city I live in (actually town) tried to make a Jewish family take down the flag of Israel they had hanging outside their garage. (mainly because half the people in this town are fundy christians, which may be why I hate the christian religion so much). That family took it up with the 8th district court and they said anyone can fly any flag of their choosing with the exception of the Nazi flag.

As a result a bunch of confederate flags started flying in the air. And I don't even live in the north.

I have no problem with the flag at all. If anyone's beef with the symbol stems from inequality, racism, hatred and intolerance, all of that happened under the American flag as well.

Rather simplistic idea of flags. Yes, they are "pieces of cloth with colors on them"...but flags stand for something. EVERY flag stands for something.

A movie is just a disc....an album is just a disc....a game is just a disc.....yet they are all so much more.:|

The confederate flag was an ensign in 1863 for the Navy during the Civil War, but then it was adopted as a "battle flag" for the South when they would march into battle, to everyone who thinks this flag was design with racial tensions needs to sit in a History class, only reason most deem it as "slavery" or racial" is because of what the Ku Klux Klan in the South used it for during the 60's, also the Nazi version of the Sawstika has been reversed so that particular display does not mean peace or anything of that nature, to the Nazi party it mean't creating new life, thus the Aryan Race was born.

I cringe whenever I see someone with it hanging up. I can't think of any good reason somebody would want to flaunt that thing, it's a symbol of a dark, ignorant time in American history, basically the worst America had to offer. It's beyond me why anyone would proudly dig up that thankfully buried skeleton.

To me it represents Southern Pride and remembering those who faught for the South. I'm from the South being from South Carolina but even though I have a positive view of the flag, I won't wear it or show it off. Due to so many seeing the flag as a negative symbol, I won't display it. It's not that I don't have Southern Pride, it's just not worth it to me to insult people because of it. At the high school I went to I was in the minorty with the majority being black. They had no problem with the flag but we were not allowed to wear the Confederate Flag on our clothing due to the Administration's fear of something happening because of it. My brother had a Confederate Flag hanging on his wall and I know for a fact that he only displayed it because he was proud to be from the South, it had nothing to do with anti-American views or racism.
