Film critics probably have the easiest job in the world: Watching movies and talking about whether or not they're worth seeing. My question to you is, do you listen to/agree with film critics? If so, how often? To me they aren't always accurate, in fact they barely ever are, since they usually praise boring movies and bash on comedies (my favorite genre).

I never care what they have to say. No one is going to tell me whether or not I'll like a movie.....

Much like game reviews I look for critics who can tell me enough about the movie to get a good feel for if I'm going to like the film or not.

No, I listen to other people (friends, coworkers, etc.) about the movie if they've seen it and take their credit for it. The reason I think this is because movie critics watch movies and if they don't turn out the way they want, they'll give them a lower rating. Meaning...they don't accept the movie what it's for. I've seen this happen quite a few times and they're really *****y about it.

No I don't. I trust my friends taste is movies since I trust their opinion more. Its not like they had money thrown at them to say something good about a film.

I agree. I don't see how Transformers only got a 58% on Rotten Tomatoes...

Generally not though if consensus opinion is skewed too much I'll consider that.

I probably listen to film critics less than I do game critics. Almost everything in films is subjective and complete personal opinion, which makes finding film critics that are reliable pretty damn hard. Of course, you can check out the rest of their work and see how their general film taste compares with your own, but on the whole, I know what kind of films I like and that's fine with me.

almost never, most of them try to be like if every movie was supposed to be an epic adventure with deep messages n stuff... when sometimes you just wanna laugh, or see some damn amount of blood and gore (horror) critics suck

No, not really. Sometimes I'll read/watch/whatever reviews only to see what said thing is about.

I generally agree with them, but there will always be exceptions. I watched The Fall this evening, which I loved, but it has 60% on Rotten Tomatoes. Some of my least favourite films are those with averages above 90%.

Roger Ebert has been pretty reliable for me. At least for some of the lesser known and older movies.

I like Roger Ebert and Ken Hanke. Ebert's too nice and Hanke's too mean, but they've always got interesting things to say.

To anyone who thinks film criticism is by nature "worthless," while a lot of individual critics suck, Roger Ebert makes a good case for the thing itself here:

No because according to Ebert and Roeper, EVERYTHING GETS A THUMBS DOWN. Also, Ebert and Roeper both think video games are crap that can never protray anything with emotion or depth.

Roeper's never said anything about video games. Ebert never said they were crap, only that they weren't art. That was one of the few dumb things he's ever written, by the way. It's a shame that's the only reason a lot of people have even heard of him.

One critic, no, because half of them are too full of themselves for there opinion to be of any value.

But if a bunch of them say a movie is a trainwreck, that's probably a good avoidence sign.

Absolutely not. I'm a horror fan so if I listened to the critics, I couldn't be possibly be one to begin with. At most, I'll read reviews after I see a movie, just to compare thoughts.

I listen to what they have to say, but I take it with a grain of salt. It's just their opinions in the end, and I can decide for myself what I like and do not like.

I have found one critic, who shares a similar taste to me, as a result, I will read his reviews and take them into account. However I will not avoid seeing a film that looked interesting just because he said it was bad.

That reviewer is Mark Kermode if anyone was wondering.

I dont listen to game or movie critics. Theyre different people with different opinions. If I want to know whether a movie is good or not; then Ill go watch it myself.

Edit- Im pretty sure they gave bad reviews to Twilight, But I loved that movie. Went to see it twice.

If Empire give it a ***** it'll probibly be a foreign arty farty film that nobody cares about (and for good reason). Take "Hero" for example, fat load of :| that is! * * * * * ? it was good action but come on! * * * if i was generous. If it wins an oscar its worth a watch or saturn it might be a good sci-fi flick.
