Do you remember your first computer?

Let's face it, we all have fond (or not so fond) memories of our first cars, our first love, our first R rated movie, etc. Do you guys remember your first computer?

mine was one of these:

T'was top o the line when I got it.

100mhz, 48 MB RAM, 4.2 GB HDD (upgraded), Cirrus Logic 1 MB PCI Video Card, Crystal ISA Sound card with game port for joysticks. This bad boy ran me through games like Doom, Monkey Island, Star Trek A Final Unity, Jedi Knight I and II and Duke Nukem 3D. (and Myst, naturally.)

Nostalgia. Because it sure beats living in the present.

Well i don't remember the specs, but it was the family computer so it basically looked like the typical beige box that was popular in the Windows 98/2000 days.

I remember my first laptop, XPS m1330 with one of the Nvidia 8000 series mobile GPUS. So combine that with a slim designed laptop with improper cooling= the MoBo burned out twice

I don't remember the specs but it was 1995, I was 6 years old and my uncle gave us our first family computer. I remember playing Star Wars rebel assault on it for the first time when we got it. As the years went on we added parts and upgraded it. I've actually still got the case at home, that's about all that's left of it though.

Yeah good ol' white computer. The first thing I found fun was using paint. I even remember a guy tutoring me on how to use it.

My first PC was on 2005 Intel pentium 4 , 512 mb ram , geforce FX 5200 and the games that i bought first were Soldier of Fortune II Double Helix , Half Life 2 GOTY , Max Payne 2 LOL !!!

I do, I was like 9 or 10 and my parents handed my off this expensive equipment for some reasons that weren't all as it seemed:

1. I took some "computer classes" at school. More like a class to learn the components of a computer (you know, monitor, mouse, CPU) and play some Frogger.
2. Windows 95 was in English and my parents had problem with "El Dificil" ("The Difficult One, the local nickname for English) but I was on a bilingual school so I must be an English expert! (Even though I had a hard time with it and didn't hit my stride until middle school).

I'm entirely grateful they did it, they tried to give all the breaks they didn't have and I get choked up thinking about it.

I think ours was a windows 98, it was already a few years old at the time. It had no sound card. I remember the joy of playing internet flash games on it. Not for too long though, because we had dialup and they limited us to 30 hours a MONTH of internet.

I just got a new computer last night, and never would I long for the 'good old days' when it comes to computers. Now >>> then.

I DO love seeing computer ads from way back, though. It's ridiculous to look at ads from way back when and see that a computer would set you back $2000 or more, and the same kind of printer that goes for $20 today was close to $350.

Anyone remember the Barbie and Hotwheels computer sets? They were the hip item to have if you were a 5-10 year old with parents who had more money than brains.

Remember the Commodore VIC-20? I think my family's first computer was whatever came out right after that one.

Yes. It was the computer I had before my current one. It was a Dell Dimension 3600C with Windows XP, I got it as a Christmas gift (but I didn't open it on Christmas, we had to see if it would fit in the computer desk, so we opened it a when we got it in early December 2003). It was replaced in 2010 with my current computer because I kept getting blue screens (I think due to problems with the RAM). I did transfer my documents from the old computer to the new one. I also use the same speakers from the first computer for the new one.

It was old, blocky and white; the only thing I did on it was play Pharaoh.

I am more for living in the present because Hakuna matata and for the sake of this thread, I had a Mac.

i dont know about the family desktop.

but as for my personal computer, it was the Dell Mini 9. pretty good laptop. or netbook. w/e. was small and compact. the keyboard took some getting used to. though it didnt have an internal fan and didnt have a disc drive. mine only had the 8GB of HDD space. at the time, i thought it was alot. until i started downloading stuff. ran out of space often. eventually i fried the HDD or something, so got a 16GB replacement. Felt amazing having double the space. more room for porn. used it for a bit longer.

then i upgraded to the laptop i have now. i think its the dell inspiron 15. came with i think 300+GB.

going from 16GB to 300GB was simply amazing.

Anyway, My first PC ran MS-DOS. played a good bit of Duke Nukem 2 and Wolfenstein 3d.

A Macintosh Plus.

It had Word Munchers.

My first computer was a Windows 3.1 machine.

Yup but I was always jealous of the kids that had Windows 95 PCs. :P

From 1998. It was a Progen, 266 MHz Pentium II processor with a 4GB harddrive. We later upgraded the CPU to a Pentium III 450 MHz. Also had a floppy drive and a 24x CD-Rom drive. Funny story, I remember when we first got the computer and hooked it up, it wouldn't boot. We were so computer-illiterate at the time that we had to call someone out to look at it and it turns out the CPU was out of its slot.

Can't remember the specs. We got ours in like 2003. It came with The Sims and I got fucking hooked on that damn game!

We had AOL and I remember harassing chat rooms. I found out that if you typed certain things into the chatbox it made a sound play on EVERYONES computer. I would choose a command, type it in, copy the text, and then just keep pasting it in the box and hitting enter. Was soooo funny to see everyone freak out when you did that!

Also remember playing a lot of candystand.com games whilst listening to Meteora.

Chips Challenge, iirc and it was a great game

I also had Treasure Mountain, OutNumbered, and a slew of other titles from TLC

Compaq computer, i believer it ran Windows 98.

Don't quite remember the brand. Just know it originally ran on MS-DOS before finally getting updated to Windows 95. Then we upgraded to a less shitty computer that was Hewlett Packard Vectra with a non "SE" Windows 98. Had 64 MB of RAM and around 240 MHz of processing power. Since we had AOL and really couldn't use the internet an extended amount of time, I used the computer mostly to play solitare, (Miraculously) Tomb Raider II, and a Pinball game called 3D ultra Pinball: Creep Night...

486 40 MHz 200 MB HDD, 4GB RAM, had 2x CD drive, got it upgraded with an additional 500 MB HDD and 4 more MB of RAM sometime later, ran DOS 6.xx (I forget) and Windows 3.11.

I could run Wolfenstein 3D, Doom and Doom 2, Alone in the Dark, Syndicate, Duke Nukem 3D, X-Wing and Tie Fighter games, those old Lucas Arts games like Indiana Jones Fate of Atlantis, Full Throttle, The Dig, oh and Myst, Journeyman Project, Dark Forces ... good times. I'm pretty sure I got a few years of gaming out of it before upgrading to something new. Don't really remember what following computers I got though.

My father used to have a computer that I was allowed to use at times, an older 386, still remember playing some games on that though, like Super Spellicopter XD

Windows 95 PC. All I did was play Chip's Challenge.

Don't know the specs since I was very young at the time. Eventually got a new computer with windows 2000 played some great games like Rollercoaster Tycoon and Age of Empires.

It was pretty much this. A Gateway running Windows ME, my parents still have it at home somewhere.

I loved that game!

The Old Macintosh, Had two games Leprechaun and Glider.

And that was about it, needless to say my NES got more attention.

I still have mine and it still works If this topics still exists tomorrow I'll post a pic

It had 32G of harddrive 128mb of ram almost 1000 bucks at the time, came with windows XP

Oh yeah. A little Compaq Presario. Was awesome for it's time. Then I got an HP which I installed my first video/sound card in, then a Dell, and then started building my own.

On topic, I didn't get a computer until I was 14 and started taking a computer programmer course, so it was your average off-the-shelf crappy as hell win98 computer with a 4gb drive and didn't play anything much stronger than a DOS game =P

I know my dad had a Windows 3.0 computer but I was never allowed to touch it. A computer I was allowed to use (and what was the first device I used for gaming) was the Atari 1040 ST

I still have it and a load of games for it.

My own (not Family) pc was a Pentium with a 120 MHz proccesor and Win95. can not remember all the stats anymore (although I think it had 16 megs of Ram give or take), it has been too long.

Too many hours spent on that thing, Crusader no remorse, Diablo Duke nukem 3D were all really fond memories :) Sadly it did not handle Quake aswell.

It held up admiribly if I remember correctly, even through I got a new PC just 3 years after that one. So it got pased on to my parents.

The monitor however did melt, Yeh I kid not -.-

It was a compaq pc with xp on it, from 2001 or 2002 I believe. I just tried to google it and can't believe I actually found it. :P

It was called the Compaq Presario 6000. Here's a pic:

We mounted the speakers on the monitor though, one on each side.

All I remember is that it had 256MB ram and about 60GB storage I think. We don't have it anymore but it was a pretty good pc although it did give us trouble sometimes. Played a lot of games on it, good times.
